Inspiration

This deck was inspired by and largely based on a deck by Jumbo Commander. After seeing it played on the Command Zone's Extra Turns series I fell in love with the active play style and aggressive nature of the deck. I aimed to capture the essence of the deck as well as possible at a budget.

Play style

This deck uses aggressively costed creatures and artifacts to put as much pressure on opponents as early as possible. Akiri, Line-Slinger has the potential to smash for a lot of damage early on while Tymna the Weaver rewards that early aggression with card advantage. The early game is best spent amassing cheap creatures and equipment while filling the hand with cards.

When the table catches up the deck can switch to a value based engine with cards like Ashnod's Altar , Marionette Master and Eldrazi Displacer to grind out the game. As opposed to DJ's original deck this version has a much more restrictive budget and has to sacrifice some speed to work out. Therefore, it leans a bit heavier into targeted removal, board wipes and protective spells like Boros Charm and Lapse of Certainty . It also plays Sunforger (and a few ways to tutor for it) to reliably have the answers when needed.

PS: Sword of Dungeons & Dragons is not legal in commander, but my playgroup allows it and it is a lot of fun!

Budget

This version is the deck is very different to DJ's original version which includes a lot of (for me) very expensive cards. This mostly boils down to the mana base and mana producing artifacts, which can be replaced at the expense of speed. The card categories used in this version are roughly the same as in the original deck and I tried to keep the number of cards in each category about the same. Replacing the expensive cards with similar, cheaper ones makes this deck significantly less expensive. I still have a few cards above 5$, mostly cards I already own, but those can absolutely be cut if you are on a tighter budget. Apart from the commanders most cards can be replaced.

Conclusion

This deck is such a blast to play. It always has something to do, and when I play it I feel that I am in the game until the very end. This is probably the most fun I have had playing in a long time. Try it out for yourself and see how you like it! Also, thanks DJ for showing off this wonderful machine! Keep up the awesomeness! :)
