Changes pre-ELD —Sept. 27, 2019
I've been approached with a few suggestions that I may have overlooked in my first few drafts. Comments on Reddit and feedback from peers have been incredibly helpful. Trying to slim down on more fat and streamline the draw engines in the deck.
Out:
-Phyrexian Arena- The card is really good but ultimately represents a 3-mana do nothing. Takes a full turn cycle to grab value, which isn't always ideal.
-Mindcrank and Bloodchief Ascension- The combo seems too casual and doesn't win on the spot. Needs time to spool up and everyone can see it coming. I'd rather not place a clock on the game while someone has the chance to snatch it away.
-Academy Ruins- I don't play many artifacts that do well from recursion. May see a re-inclusion if i decide to play Mindslaver.
-Favorable Winds- A recent addition that just isn't as good as Intangible Virtue. I think having too many anthems may produce diminishing returns and this is the weakest of the few.
-Sygg, River Cutthroat- Great card but I want to try Tymna the Weaver *f-etch* instead. Could see a re-addition at a later point but I think i'll be able to get more value from the latter.
-Teferi, Time Raveler-I like his silence ability a lot. I think i look at him more for draw in this build and want to pursue more versatile options.
In:
-Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, Laboratory Maniac, and Demonic Consultation- Replaces Bloodcrank as the primary combo wincon. It's faster and more final. It's nice to have 2 different enablers on top of consultation. Still looking for more combos but I think this is a solid beginning.
-Tymna the Weaver *f-etch*- I think Tymna represents more explosive card draw off of the incremental value I can generate from my fliers. Lifelink also helps but I'm not so sure I foresee myself swinging in much with her.
-Phyrexian Tower- Lets me cheat on mana and take advantage of the tokens I make if need be.
-Smuggler's Copter- a low-costed flier that Alela not only pumps, generates a pilot off of Alela, and loots? I'm sold.
-Notion Thief- Just another card to combo with Windfall. My meta sees a few wheels and it's always good to be prepared for it. I may be going too all-in on windfall locks but time will tell.
I'm still looking to add another combo or two to the deck. Thinking about the Whirza combo but I will want to play around with the deck some more before making too many foundational changes.
