Minor changes —Oct. 16, 2019

Played the deck at my league last night. Tried out a few new cards, all of which came in handy. Making the following switches:

Out//In:

-Snow-Covered Swamp // Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

-Rest in Peace // Relic of Progenitus

-Oblivion Ring // Opposition

-Serra's Sanctum // Westvale Abbey  Flip

It's become clear that this deck can really impact the board when the engine goes. However, I've started to notice some trends in cards I'm not too thrilled about dropping on the field.

Rest in Peace is a fantastic card but because I'm not running Helm of Obedience it just feels like more of an annoying effect, which ultimately turns off my recursion with Hall of Heliod's Generosity and my explosive draw with Skullclamp. Relic lets me try to incrementally remove threats for cheaper and cantrips me when need be. It did very well last night.

Serra's Sanctum just doesn't fit that well in the build. It doesn't do much early game and then only ever really gets me like 3-4 mana later on, and it's all dependent on what I draw and play. I find greater value in Westvale Abbey  Flip, which gives me blockers if needed or can let me cash out on my faeries for a 9/7 indestructible flyer with lifelink. As I've noticed that Alela's lifelink isn't really impactful, it's nice to have another potential source of lifegain.

Oblivion Ring has done well but 3-mana sorcery speed removal just feels bad. As I don't have a way to abuse the card or ones like it it just becomes a dummy enchantment, which has yet to feel good in play. I figure that its removal warrants a go with Opposition, which I dropped last night and just ran the board with. It represents mass removal and stops me from going 1-1 with faerie chump blocks.

Adding Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth lets me color-fix a little better and ultimately allows my fetches to give me mana when i'm either low on life or out of fetch targets. I find that it slows the bleed that my lands provide and lets me feel more confident in my color base.

--I'm thinking about creating a separate decklist specifically for my league. I want to keep crafting this for optimized/competitive play but my league isn't always on that level. Consultation doesn't feel good in what's a tuned-casual environment and it's ultimately not a very fun interaction. For the league's purposes I'm thinking about trying the Bolas's citadel/aetherflux combo, as that's 3 pieces of high mana costs which seems more fair. I'm also looking at the Narset-wheel packages. While helpful to keep the gas going, its just such a feelbad move, especially when you wheel right after overloading a cyc rift. It's likely to stay in but man it felt mean. Narset was a mistake, lol.

Played my alela deck for the first time last night - tymna overperformed. Right now I'm running her and a bident, but I'm not sure if she should just be replaced with Coastal Piracy , but she can draw cards on her own and comes out a turn earlier than both.

If anything, I'd suggest trying to play piracy and tymna. I have no doubt she'll jump back in the list, I'm just playing with ideas. It's good to know she does well though, thanks!
