Thoughts:
Taurean Mauler - gets big fast, and returnable with Alesha
Gideon's Avenger - ditto
Instigator Gang - lots of extra damage, returnable
Chandra's Spitfire - burn enhancement + combo with Raid Bombardment
Ponyback Brigade - lots of tokens w/Alesha
Boros Charm - keep your stuff
Faith's Reward - ditto
Rootborn Defenses - double ditto
Fervent Charge - great value for aggro
Reconnaissance - best card nobody plays, so perfect in Alesha it's scary...

Anyone have suggestions on what is underperforming in this deck and what can be used to replace it?

October 4, 2015 6:08 p.m.

shaistyone says... #4

Well, that depends on your expected play environment. Are you looking at mainly multiplayer matches or 1v1 duels? They prompt a bit different strategy.
An example is the use of burn. If you are in a multiplayer environment, burn falls in effectiveness. A Lightning Strike is considerably worse than a Doom Blade in most situations, as an example.

One constraint that I use is the 'awesome' test. If something you have isn't 'awesome', you most likely can cut it and replace it with something else.

Is hold at bay a decent card?

November 3, 2015 11:09 p.m.

It can be, though there are much better ones that prevent ALL the combat damage that would be dealt that turn.

I get a better wording would be if it is good in this deck?

Guess

Necrotic Sliver would be a great addition too, being 2/2 body that can reoccur with Alesha's ability after you sacrifice to blow up their stuff turn after turn.

That is a very good addition but I do not have the funds to acquire it right now. It will though be added to the maybeboard though. Thank you for the suggestion.

Mardu stuff, like Mardu Charm, Mardu Ascendancy, Crackling Doom. (even Languish could be good here!) and mana artifacts like Mardu Banner and Kolaghan Monument could help drop those higher mana creatures. (like Mardu Strike Leader, Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury, and Dragonlord Kolaghan

For more ideas, check out my standard Mardu deck.

maybe Mad Prophet, to discard mana expensive cards that you can reanimate with Alesha for a fresh new card.

Cavalry Pegasus is better than Loyal Pegasus.

Humble Defector is awesome!

Any of the Vivid lands, such as Vivid Marsh or Vivid Crag, help for non-taplands

Alesha needs a good number of creatures to work best, i think you should definitely play more than 30. Some suggestions (not all of them creatures): Ponyback Brigade, Duplicant, Karmic Guide, Blind Zealot, Buried Alive, Bone Shredder, Shizo, Death's Storehouse, Siege-Gang Commander, Marsh Flitter, Filth, Nahiri's Machinations, Skullclamp, Swords to Plowshares, Hanweir Battlements.
I think you should cut Hold at Bay, Avenging Arrow, Show of Valor, Safe Passage, Messenger's Speed, Lava Axe, Great Teacher's Decree, Flurry of Horns, Spite of Mogis, March of the Returned. None of those are good cards.
As far as protection of Alesha goes, Emerge Unscathed and Center Soul seem like two good options that you are missing, rebound makes them better than Gods Willing.

So I'm going to cut the cards you said and start adding your suggestions or others suggestions. Are there any other cards you would suggest to remove?

July 29, 2016 12:30 p.m.

Emzed says... #22

I played Alesha briefly myself, you can take a look at the list i built here.
If you want to remove more cards, Hardened Berserker, Boros Elite, Bloodsoaked Champion, Zurgo Bellstriker, Wojek Halberdiers, Griffin Dreamfinder, Act of Treason, Launch the Fleet and 1-2 basic lands would be my suggestions.
A few cards that allow you to sacrifice creatures for value would likely be useful, for example Goblin Bombardment, Blasting Station, Altar of Dementia, Grim Haruspex or Goblin Sharpshooter.

Do you think it would be beneficial to remove some basics? To me it seems that when I play this that I don't have enough mana.

Emzed says... #24

I am probably biased by playing green decks with lots of mana elves most of the time, that's why i am used to playing 35 or less lands. For your deck, 35 is likely too low, 38 actually seems appropriate. Lands that also serve as mana sinks like Slayers' Stronghold are great if you start flooding, so maybe play a couple more of these (Hanweir Battlements, Vault of the Archangel, High Market, Shizo, Death's Storehouse, Rogue's Passage, Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion).

Spinerock Knoll is also a great one, really worth including since it gives a free extra card and is very easy to trigger (if opponents damage eachother, it counts towards the activation).
I just noticed you are a little low on removal. There will be games where it's important to be able to answer an opposing creature, so think about adding Murderous Cut, Crackling Doom, Doom Blade, Anguished Unmaking, Utter End or Mortify.
