That is true, but at two mana and three other choices available, I think the card still has value here. I may find something else I like better, but for now it's a decent choice.

I like the Nyx-Fleece Ram... It may end up being a sideboard in case I find myself needing extra life gain. I'll have to run some tests. The Orator is nice because it has flying, but I'll never be able to use his ability since I'm not running any dragons. Thank's for your suggestions!

After running some playtests, I am sure that the Nyx-Fleece Ram has a home in this deck! I've replaced the Wall of Mulch with it. I may have to change the name of the deck since my compliment of walls is rapidly decreasing!!! Thanks again, Son-of-Mace

I like decks that utilize creatures with big butts. I have no idea what your win con is but I don't care, this looks like it would seriously tick off the guys I play with and that's my primary goal when I make decks lol.

It's a reverse-aggro strategy... Get a bunch of "little guys" out that look kinda harmless, and then use them to stomp on people! Keep looking for that magical christmas turn-3 win con! I promise it's in there! Thanks for your support!

this decks pretty cool. I love doran like decks. turn 3 win is probably something like this:
turn 1 land, Dragon's Eye Sentry
turn 2 land, Assault Formation
turn 3 two Shape the Sands on the sentry and swing w/ no blocks hopefully.
March 22, 2015 4:30 a.m.
The turn 3 win is turn 1: Lagonna-Band Trailblazer turn 2 Assault Formation hit for 4, turn 3 hit for 4 and triple Shape the Sands for a bonus 15? Maybe put more emphasis on the Hornet Queen strategy - Tormenting Voice would be good for that. I like the combo of two ideas, +1

OFC I had forgotten that the one drop had defender but as I don't got premium I cannot delete. The win con is still probably turn 1 Lagonna-Band Trailblazer into a turn 3 triple Shape the Sands

Nice deck! I love it! T1 plains, Lagonna-Band Trailblazer. T2 forest, assault formation, swing for 4. T3 forest, cast twice Shape the Sands on your Lagonna-Band Trailblazer and Tadaa!
March 22, 2015 4:38 a.m.
Ok, more detailed this time, turn 1 Mana Confluence, Lagonna-Band Trailblazer. Turn 2 Forest( or just any untapped green source), Assault Formation 4 damage. Turn 3 play another untapped green source, swing for another four, then triple Shape the Sands into a 19 damage kill.

Oh the trailblazer has heroic! Ok that does make it easier to turn 3 win. (My method is still viable though, if slightly overkill)

DaftVader you were the first to get it right! You only need to cast 2 Shape the Sands turn 3 for 16 damage after the 4 on turn 2 though. But if I had 3, I'd play 3! Congrats!

On the other hand, DaftVader you didn't give me a +1! nudge nudge wink wink...

I dropped the Hornet Queen in favor of Prophetic Flamespeaker. I'm concerned about his double-red mana symbols, but there's also the option of Alesha brining him into play without it. The double strike in combo with Shape the Sands could be devastating!

If you're splashing it with red, have you thought about the new Crater Elemental?

It's in the sideboard... I don't have a place for it mainboard. It may find a new home there in the fall after rotation. I'll have to wait and see.

Shape the Sands on Prophetic Flamespeaker with Assault Formation out; nice!

+1 Great idea.
I might look at some Feat of Resistance in the side board for control match ups, just to protect Alesha.

I just playtested this on XMage in 3 matches. My biggest issue was getting ! If you check your color pie, you'll see there's too much and not enough . Perhaps change out the Temple of Triumph and one Wooded Foothills for two Windswept Heaths? Other than that, this is pretty rock-solid and earned a +1 from me!

I haven't personally had any trouble with the mana, but I believe you! I put the mana base in with cards that I actually have so I wouldn't get confused building my actual deck! I agree that leaning a little more toward white would benefit the deck. Thanks for the heads-up! And thanks for the +1!

+1 i like it...im doing something similar, i didnt even think about the flamespeaker...good work with that one haha...but in mine, formation is mainly an added utility, instead of the basis of the deck...my thought process was "how would this deck run if i did not draw or resolve an Assault Formation" so i built around that idea. if you want you can take a look at mine and see what you think. Abzan Assform

and further more....NO Sylvan Caryatid?!?!?!? what's the point of running Assault Formation if not to attack with one of the most played creatures in standard, that can't attack? lol....that was honestly my main reason for building the deck haha

I quite like the deck!
That said...Dromoka's Command? You don't have much power going round, and I believe fight works based on power.
