@SynergyBuild - I hate to grammar Nazi you man, but in recommended commanders you misspelled it. I also actually use mythicspoiler, so I give that a thumbs up. I'm not opposed to coming up with generic guidelines for the deck building process, but I would certainly include a disclaimer as well. Haha. I would also include links to each of the additional resources just for ease of access. Honestly for the landbase tab in deck construction, I would link to the Professors multi-color mana base videos. He has done one for 2-5 color mana bases individually. While not perfect, it was quite helpful for me when I discovered them. I am referring to Tolarian Community College on YouTube if you're unfamiliar.

Silverdrake though the name of this is totally misleading (gotta gotta get them clicks with the clickbaits xD), this is really just an introduction to the format of EDH to players who aren't new to how to play MTG, yet might not know anything about EDH or general ettiquite, politics and the likeness.

Scytec no problem, I certainly like grammar Nazi's here, I guess my spell-check didn't get it because there are two astericks right next to is because I wanted to make it bold or something, I'll fix that. I will toss links to those manabase videos as well as manabasecrafter in the Additional Resources section, so don't worry about that.

To both Silverdrake and Scytec, I am not a general fan of spoilers being posted here, not because I find anything immoral about it, but simply because there are some people who like to be surprised, but I will probably put a link to MythicSpoiler, but just put up a ton of spoiler warnings in the Additional Resources section of the primer.

Thanks to both of you!

I like the spoiler season personally, for MTG exclusively, but I understand the desire to not spoil things. I'm with Silverdrake in that I am very fond of the Thesaurus feature. Also, it isn't the best combo on the planet, but I quite like Duskmantle Guildmage + Mindcrank haha. Also, you mention the best combo earlier in the list, but not actually in the combo section. :p Earthcraft + Squirrel Nest

Most simply put, you're doing god's work. Thank you for creating such a concise and well formatted resource

I think you should format the links to other sites a bit different, it creates more space for which makes the page a bit bulkier then need be. Use hyperlinks like Click Me. Also maybe display them in one spoiler instead of several to conserve space, something like:

External Sites Show

Also your descriptions of the external links I think have WAY too much bias. I get that you don't think Scryfall isn't better than The Gatherer, but... This is supposed to be an objective guide, you don't need to tell everyone that some people say it's better than the other and so on.Try to maintain an informative, objective approach.

Also one more thing about formatting, use accordions more frequently. They are much more compact and close the previous section when you move to the next.

Panel Content

Actually looking at it now did you do a one panel accordion for all those?

SynergyBuild says... #10

DrkNinja links haven't been working for me, I use the formatting and it doesn't work... whatever. I'll fix them up, sorry about that, if you can explain it to me that would really be appreciated.

I also use accordions everywhere, so you can have multiple tabs open, see you can't with a normal accordion. Personal choice, but I see the use of space efficiency too.

I never said gatherer was better than Scryfall. All I said was that Scryfall wasn't made by WotC, nothing wrong with it, but that is why I only recently heard of scryfall, and so don't use it, it is probably better, I even said it came with recommendations, I even said it was a personal opinion, so I don't get why you come at me saying this is 'WAY biased,' when I don't care if you use either. Here is my exact quote, word for word. At no point did I say any were better than any other:

"https://scryfall.com/ and http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Default.aspx (off-site links) are powerful card search websites that can find you the best cards for any deck, and are both very popular. I personally use Gatherer, was it was made by WotC and run by them, so it is more official, but I have heard that Scryfall is better by others."

Why do you have to hate because I said that Scryfall was a good recommendation and Gatherer was more official man, also, what other things are biased here?

I promise I'm not hating, Commander is my favorite format and it is the only format in which I hope with on Tapped Out. So I was really excited about seeing this project that you were putting together and I just am trying to help you make it the best it can be.

Clearly we have different opinions about certain things, and that's okay I'm just offering my opinion. I'm also super OCD about writing as I am a writer, as you know.

As far as opinions you said "I personally use the gatherer" and when doing the DeckStats you said "I don't personally use the sure" and "it has a lesson user friendly user interface." All of that is opinion and shows personal bias. If you read my example I wore for The Gatherer above you'll see all it does is telling what it is and how it functions, completely objectively.

As far as links go, higlight a word click the insert link button and enter a URL. It adds the code for you.

And write

I promise I'm not trying to be an ass, just critical in a constructive sense. <3

P.S. I'd be willing to edit and write for you if you were up for it.

Oh, I have done that, but I used the little link-chain thing on the top row for it, and every other feature such as auto-bolding or pasting automatic syntax for color symbols like . It doesn't show up when I do, but I have two more questions, and I'll probably delete the minor personal opinions in the 'Additional Resources' section, after understanding your point I agree.

My questions are 1: What did you write in the 'External Sites' spoiler? I can't access it for some reason, and 2: How do you do the White background thing when you explained the syntax for the hyperlinking?

Thanks in advance, friend!

DrkNinja says... #13

For some reason neither can I...

It was along these lines:

"The gatherer is a database created by Wizards Of The Coast for every Magic:The Gathering card from beginning to present. Each card has its own page where details of the card are such as the card name, converted mana cost type, oracle text (the official wording per Wizards), the set it was released/printed in, rarity, power and toughness, artist, and even card number. On each card page you can also find official rulings from Wizards, a small discussion section, and the legality of the card in each format.

You can use The Gatherer to search for cards containing any of the details mentioned above to find cards that suit your needs."

@Scytec, @DrkNinja, @kamelyan, @Silverdrake, @multimedia

Okay now, I have added a lot to this, and have realized how much time it will take to fill out the Recommended Commanders tab.

I have taken into account a lot of the suggestions you all have made, and will make sure to:

A. Finish the landbase tab of the deckbuilding section, which will be the last paart.

B. Finish the recommended commanders tab.

C. Add the reason for each banned card.

D. Add a tips&tricks/helpful information section, for things such as how to use the stack, tracking counters and tokens, etc.

E. Add in a mini 'Deckbuilding Challenges' tab, for players who want to build a fun deck with a theme/challenge such as having only 25 lands, or having to pick only one nonland-card type other than the commander for the whole deck (like an all-enchantment deck).

F. Add in a sample decklist for each sub-theme.

Anything else?

You could possibly throw in a brief section at the end about storage. Like the top 3 best rated deckboxes & sleeves on amazon or something.
The only other thing I'd say you might want to throw in is a disclaimer of sorts. Lots of people are going to come to this, see that you're ranked #1 and #2 on the community hubs, and take everything you say as absolute law. Obviously you don't know everything about commander. Neither do I, nor does anyone else. I don't know if you watch any of the Professor's content @ Tolarian Community College on youtube, but he has a really nice way of doing it where at the end of each product review he does he says something along the lines of "Everything I said here is just suggestions - what's most important is what You, the viewer think. If you have fun doing something I advise against, go for it. Different players have different wants and needs so there's no way for me to cover everything."
Not to say that you're being arrogant or claiming you do know everything - I just think that without a disclaimer people are inclined to assume you do know everything and follow your word as gospel.

SynergyBuild says... #16

Until today, I was #1 on both ;-;.

I was going to do the first thing about storage, playmats, sleeves, foiling in a separate primer entirely on MTG as a whole, but since this was just specifically about EDH, I felt it didn't apply as much.

I'll add that disclaimer!

August 31, 2018 11:52 a.m.

SynergyBuild says... #17

Update for all of you:

legendofa I have now adding reasons for all of the banned cards.

Silverdrake my word has now been degraded from gospel to just a random internet weirdo talking. (I have added a disclaimer immediately under the title!)

DrkNinja I have removed all personal opinions from the Additional Resources section.

Scytec except for the three-color combinations (I am working on it), I have added the top two-four commanders for each color combination. Check the Recommended Commanders tab under the Additional Resources section.

longmuiryan & Enral thank you for the positive comments both of you!

This is really coming along, I'm impressed. I did notice a few typos and grammatical errors. I'm an English minor, I can proofread it if you'd like. Make it as spiffy for everyone as possible

Already offered, I think he's trying to go it alone.

SynergyBuild says... #21

Nah, I am just unsure how to add people. Do you all know?

September 7, 2018 11:48 a.m.

SynergyBuild says... #22

Oh yeah, I put a competitiveness meter, thinking it would be 100 because the decklist is super consistent, but apparently it is 100% casual... I guess that is because it isn't legal, and you would lose as a state-based action when you draw your opening hand.

Any thoughts on what cards to add to overrule this dilemma?

September 7, 2018 11:50 a.m.

SynergyBuild says... #23

Yeah, 'll take you both up on the offer, but only once I am fully complete with the landbase section. That will be the first point at which every single section I currently have is complete.

At that point, though I would like to add card suggestions, how to upgrade decks, tips and tricks, and more to the theory section, I will ahev the base of this primer complete.

Then I would like to have more people help out, so that this can be a really well-made and useful primer. I'll probably have to add a new minor section on who is working on it, so we can all put a little bio for ourselves.

This is all, only if you are okay waiting a day or so, and then joining, if your offers are still up to take! Thanks DrkNinja and Silverdrake for your support so far.

SynergyBuild says... #24

DrkNinja you upvoted, so does that mean you'll take me up?

September 7, 2018 1:45 p.m.

DrkNinja says... #25

@SynergyBuild There is a "share list" that has an option beside it that says "Shared users can edit" when you check the box. This means multiple users are listed as the creator and multiple people can make changes to the deck mainboard, description etc, but cannot add other shared users.

Also of course I'll still help!

I don't know what deck list you are talking about though because there is none that I see...
