Why no Cryptolith Rite?

There's no room for non creature spells and the ramp creatures are almost always enough for the deck. Everything needs to combo with Lifecrafter's Bestiary and Westvale Abbey  Flip

Have you tried out Cryptolith Rite? I feel like it would ramp you even harder, and allow creatures such as your Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter to tap for mana. And since you have your servos and sions too from Eyeless Watcher and Weaponcraft Enthusiast, we're looking at a much significant source of mana to flip abby faster and more consistently.

I haven't actually spent time playtesting with Cryptolith Rite, but from the playtesting I've done I'm pretty confident saying it's better off without it. Nearly half the creatures generate mana already which makes Cryptolith Rite redundant half the time.

The only benefit I can see is that it might slightly increase your odds of a turn four Ormendahl at the expense of making the deck less likely overall of flipping Ormendahl.

You could replace the main deck Heroic Intervention, those are important to me because I play mostly at FNM's and expect to see some random fringe decks with a variety of interaction, but you don't need them game one against the current tier one deck lists.

Do you have some results with it?

Just kitchen table so far, I'll take it to FNM tonight. Assuming I can find the last few cards...

I had success with a very similar ultra budget deck a few months ago.

Hidden Herbalists would do wonders in this deck, as long as you have an Evolving Wilds, a Spawning Bed or a Mirrorpool. These cards leaving the battlefield would effectively enable you to drop any >2 drops that are in your hand (Which is roughly a third of your deck). Yahenni, Undying Partisan might also help enable this effect. Ultimately you could reliably drop Profane Prince around turn three with Yahenni, and reliably turn four with Evolving Wilds.

I also ran a Turbo Ormendahl deck in the last standard. Why no Catacomb Sifter?

Thanks happygilmore511, I overlooked the devoid cards. You search Gatherer for all the cards that are Green and Black in Standard and it misses Catacomb Sifter, devoid's the worst. Gatherer results - http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&format=+[%22Standard%22]&color=+G+B

I also overlooked Scion Summoner which I'd prefer to Highspire Artisan in most match-ups - Scions are way better then Servos.

I'm going to add Catacomb Sifter for sure, just need to rework the mana base. I also really enjoyed killing stuff with Eliminate the Competition, I think I want at least two of those main board.

I learned a few things at FNM, I'll update this deck with some improvements soon.

I also ran Zulaport Cutthroat and Cryptolith Rite. I know you're cutting rite for speed, but why Cutthroat? Would you just rather have something with 2 bodies? I'd also highly recommend Nissa, Voice of Zendikar for the sideboard if you have her. She's perfect for both enabling the flip and beating down

February 25, 2017 3:32 a.m.

Quick note, if Cutthroat is 1 of your 5 sacrifices, it jumps your clock by a whole turn.

I also ran Night Market Lookout to great effect. It would deal an average of 4 damage while buying me time to combo. Granted, I had cryptolith rite to activate it after attacking became suicide

Always search on Gatherer for what ever colours + colourless.

Always.

You can also search for {B} {G} in the text box to hit everything that takes or to cast.

I've been working on this updated list for a while. It's not quite right yet, but getting closer. Currently the main board is fairly fast, but needs to draw either Sylvan Scrying or Westvale Abbey  Flip. The deck I really want to play has Eliminate the Competition, Lifecrafter's Bestiary, and Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter which is slower, but always gets there eventually and is a lot more fun to play.

So the question is how much value will you get by being able to flip Westvale Abbey  Flip earlier game one? I may abandon that strategy and go for a more balanced mainboard.

If your meta has a lot of blue based control or uw tempo decks, change it. The all-in plan folds to any kind of bounce or exile. But if it's mostly creature decks, then I'd say turbo is better mainboard

Blossoming Defense instead of Heroic Intervention

Drop 4 lands for 4x Narnam Renegade. You have 36? mana cards, way too many if you ask me.

2x Lifecrafter's Bestiary instead of 2x Eyeless Watcher? You don't want to have 2-4 of those in your hand as one is enough to spawn Ormendahl next turn most of the time.

Super cool deck. I really like the idea. Just curious, why Permeating Mass? Just a blocker that will make an opponent thing twice about attacking? I also imagine you try and attack with more than just Ormendahl to play around a sidedboard Blessed Alliance? Looking forward to see how the deck evolves. Happy Brewing!

Zulaport cutthroat??

This deck is damn cool. I agree with d3dshot, seems you can get a nice bit of damage off with Zulaport Cutthroat.

Thanks for all the suggestions and upvotes. I've made a bunch of recent changes that I'm really happy with. I gave up on the early Westvale Abbey  Flip strategy for something much more reliably in general. This is now all about Lifecrafter's Bestiary, I love cards like this that give such reliable value and scale with the game.

I haven't actually played this new list yet, but I've spent enough time playtesting to believe it will preform well.

Great deck just too many Eliminate the Competition!

What u think of my version? Devoided Abbey

March 2, 2017 10:32 p.m. Edited.

PlagueRats says... #23

Struyk, I doubt anyone else is playing four Eliminate the Competition, but I think it works here. There isn't room for many removal spells so they need to be powerful.

This deck should have the advantage in the long game over most so just resetting the board is sometimes the right play. Although Eliminate the Competition works against the goal of flipping Westvale Abbey  Flip, every creature you sac is going to be for a good reason. I feel like with four Lifecrafter's Bestiary there is more then enough card draw to make up for the potential card disadvantage of Eliminate the Competition.

Though I see how it may end up be better going down to three Eliminate the Competition, I'll keep it in mind as I play.

You could also use Bearer of Silence as control + creature for the Abbey

March 2, 2017 10:36 p.m.

PlagueRats says... #25

Bearer of Silence is no good here since there is very little targeted removal. This deck uses defensive creatures for control so the opponent will likely always have multiple creatures in play. Also this strategy has no need for an attacking creature other then Ormendahl and deliberatly has no 1 toughness creatures other then Scions.
