Wish there was a way to give your scorpion first strike.

Fireshrieker is cool but not a great fit. The only one who would benefit would be Sedge Scorpion . The rest are either too powerful for it to be effective, have zero power, and would be tapping for mana pretty much every turn. Plus it shares a CMC curve with Bow of Nylea , which is just more versatile.
Thanks for your suggestions and comments!

Really loving the continued progression on the deck. Mines resorted to three colours so its nice that you are still being true to green.
I'm partciuly fond of the Arbor Colossus . Like many people have suggested I considered Deadly Recluse aswell but I think your right in your decision. After hes killd off his flying oponent he can become an alternate win condition. I do wonder what you take out to replace him with? The Deadly Recluse has the advantage that you are still happy with it erly game, but then again you would only really wan't to save it for their flyer anyway. Mmm.... I shall have to playtest this and see how good they are.
I'd be intrigued if you could look at my deck again The best offence. Your previous help was very usful, I'm partically wondering if Bow of Nylea might also be worthwhile for me. The deathough doesnt help much of the time but I think the life gain might be really nice against many decks.

Hey fellow Sedge Scorpion followers and devotees! The Ruler of Theros is on the march again, this time with a deadlier regiment:
One touch and you're dead. Check it out.
Fear the scorpion.

Tell me why in the name of Heliod are you not running Pit Fight ? It is easy 2 mana mono-green removal when used in conjunction with our newest god, Sedge Scorpion .

Mostly because I'd probably have to remove Alpha Authority for it, and that extra hexproof and devotion can come in handy. I really don't want my Karametra's Acolyte s, Axebane Guardian s, and Giant Adephage s to get smacked in the face with a Doom Blade . Although it would be a great way to get rid of those stupid Desecration Demon s... I'll think about it. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you think that color won't be a problem, Flesh / Blood is a better choice than Pit Fight just because you would be able to keep the creature after.

But Pit Fight is at instant speed, so Sedge Scorpion can block a creature then instant speed kill another attcker, blocking 2 creaures for 1 scorpion.
Plus I'm a little concerned with the red in the cost. Clan Defiance already has red in the cost, and I don't know how another 3 red mana would effect color distribution. I'm not confident that I'd have not only an Axebane Guardian or Sylvan Caryatid and a creature that deals damage. Plus the fighting with Sedge Scorpion would be pretty much useless. Thanks for the suggestion though.

In the backdrop you see a Deadbridge Goliath hunker down on his bridge, left to rot on his bridge. Pit Fight meets his archenemy... Hunt the Hunter . EVEN better than Pit Fight , your scorpion might just be able to pick up double kill and then still live... You honestly don't need Nylea, God of the Hunt because A. She is NOTHING compared to Sedge Scorpion 's godly powers, and B all of Sedge's big friends already have trample. Plays Primeval Bounty . Attacks with sedge. Drops Hunt the Hunter . Loves the look on their face. Rubblebelt Raiders is 3 devotion and a good way to sac stuff like Llanowar Elves lategame when you have no use for them. It also normally ends up getting bigger than a 8/8. Wildwood Rebirth or Savage Summoning for green removal.

threetails, Hunt the Hunter is only effective against other green creatures. The buff is nice, but since are are a lot of other decks that don't run green (Esper control, American control, Mono-Blue and Black Devotion...) it's not ideal. Plus, as Bromjunaar mentioned, it's a sorcery.
Nylea, God of the Hunt is not in here for her static ability. It's purely because I wanted a permanent that pumps creatures when I have an abundance of mana.
Uh... not sure if I follow your logic for Rubblebelt Raiders . How does it sac stuff? And where do I have Llanowar Elves ?
Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

Llanowar Elves and the Elvish Mystic are fairly similar I guess... Though Rubblebelt Raiders + Bioshift is a runable combo to buff stuff up with I guess... Or to just be a dbag to simic decks now that I'm rereading Bioshift

You've got the basic deck-build down, but in competitive events, you might run into some trouble. Although Axebane Guardian can potentially generate a fair amount of mana, it has better synergy in a deck that uses more than 3 defenders. A more flexible card to run, although a bit sticky sometimes, is Verdant Haven . You seem to run a fair bit of mana ramp, so I don't think you need so many Karametra's Acolyte if none at all. She is 4 mana, so not too preferable when trying to play other things by turn 4 (Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx does the same thing, and you'll have a lot of lands and devotion to green by the time you need it to actually play something big). I wouldn't shy out on Garruk, Caller of Beasts as you will have to be dependant upon him for 10 mana creatures (and trust me, you don't want to use hard earned mana to play those in tournaments!). Plus, he is a fairly cheap ($$) planeswalker, and with all the mana ramp, fairly cheap to get onto the field as well. Add one more Pit Fight . I would run Skarrg Goliath over Colossus of Akros mainly because you must have 10 mana to make Colossus of Akros attack (and like I said, you do not want to pay that much mana for just that), which makes him a bit slow. Plus, Skarrg Goliath gives more devotion to green and could be bloodrushed onto something like Sedge Scorpion if needed (or something else). I would most definitely run Naturalize over Fade into Antiquity , as the prior is an instant and costs less. Most artifacts/enchantments don't get reanimated or returned to their owner's hand, so you're pretty safe with Naturalize . I'm not sure Commune with the Gods is necessary in your deck as 1/3 of it is already creatures, so you will be drawing them more often than not.
This is a brave deck-build for sure. You have a strong base to your deck, but control-type decks like mine (Sorok Control, take a look!) will most definitely shut you down pretty quick. Don't let my huge wall of text faze you, but to consider what I said. But by all means, keep kicking butt with that Sedge Scorpion !

Bromjunaar, I guess they are pretty much the same card... But Rubblebelt Raiders is a bit too slow to be in here. It would usually be the only one attacking , so counters would build slowly.
Darthen, I admit I was intimidated at first by your wall of text. And honestly, you're completely correct: this wouldn't win most competitive events. But I don't need it to, since I only play casually. I wouldn't take it to FNM to try and go 4-0, but i'd be happy if it went 2-2. But I've never been to a FNM, nor do I plan on it anytime soon, so it's just for fun. But I would hope my sideboard would help against other decks.
Most of your comments and suggestions were spot-on in my opinion though, except for these:
8 times of of 10, Axebane Guardian will generate more mana than Verdant Haven , just because of the other Guardians and Sylvan Caryatid . And it can block.
I wouldn't call Garruk, Caller of Beasts cheap. He's around $20. I know that's no Elspeth, but still. A "cheap" planeswalker, Gideon, Champion of Justice , is around $5.
Fade into Antiquity isn't to deal with regular artifacts. It's for the indestructible artifacts and Gods.

@GoldGhost012 I did not realize this was a casual deck. I was sure I read somewhere that this was going to FNM, but that might have been another deck. I still feel that Axebane Guardian won't serve at it's best most of the time. But you would have playtested it, I have not, so I will abide by your understanding of the situation. Garruk, Caller of Beasts was at one point only $7. As prices fluctuate for such cards, I am sorry if I was not up-to-date on his current cost. I now realize the use of Fade into Antiquity . Thank you for bringing that light to my eyes (we learn something new everyday!).

$7 for Garruk? Why didn't I know about this?!
Anyway, yes this is a casual deck, but it is in the description that this would be the deck I play IF I ever go to FNM. Which I probably won't ever. If I did, I'd certainly implement some of the changes I've thought of and you and oter users have suggested. Sorry for confusing you.

No. Only if I wanted it to be top-tier competitive. Which I don't.

where would you put Wasteland Viper in this deck if you had to?

GoldGhost012 says... #23
Why should I run it at all when I have Sedge Scorpion ? Everything Wasteland Viper can trade with Sedge Scorpion can too. So what if the Scorpion dies to a Legion Loyalist when the Viper doesn't? There's a very very small pool of cards that the Viler can survive that Sedge Scorpion can't.

what do you think of Reverent Hunter ? you're playing mono-green, get a potentially huge body for 3 cmc? I think it definitely is worth looking into.
November 16, 2013 2:02 p.m.
@ GoldGhost012 I don't want to be rude, but I think you are arguing about nothing. Wasteland Viper is, in every aspect, better than Sedge Scorpion . It is true that the scorpion can trade with anything that the viper does, but what would happen to either in the event of a -1/-1 or 1 damage fieldwipe? What about 1/1 tokens? Creatures? There is actually a larger pool of cards that could affect Sedge Scorpion that Wasteland Viper would get around by. 1/1 tokens are prevalent in any format which can include standard tokens like Saprolings, Elementals, Goblins, Soldiers, etc. Plain 1/1 creatures are up there too, and almost every deck in standard runs a 1/1 creature. The viper could even stand up to a 1/2 creature where the scorpion would fall just short. id it comes into contact with anything that has 1 power, Wasteland Viper will live. Plus, the bloodrush provided by the viper could save an attacking creature from a small amount of damage if needed. It's up to you if you want to play Sedge Scorpion , but you cannot deny the fact that Wasteland Viper is better or just as good in every aspect compared to the prior.

Yes. The power of Sedge Scorpion allows me to have 16 cards in my sideboard. Not because I miscalculated or anything.
