I'd say add Setessan Tactics because not only does it give you fight but it also gives a P/T boost of 1. Sometimes you can use that to barely win or you can use that to dodge some spells. You could have 2 of each and play with both to see which you like better. That's what I recommend.

I was planing on making a fun death deck that uses all the one drop deathtouchers. Wasteland Viper ,Sedge Scorpion ,Pharika's Chosen etc. And with m15 they get Typhoid Rats

Another issue I'm debating: Bow of Nylea vs Courser of Kruphix vs Scavenging Ooze , mostly for lifegain. Bow and Courser give 2 devotion, while Scooze is a 2-drop. Scooze feasts on graveyards, Bow is versatile, and Courser generates a wee bit of card advantage. I'm also reluctant to shell out $35 for 2 Coursers when I already have the other two.

I vote Scavenging Ooze just because of how massive it gets.

Caharin says... #12

I vote Bow of Nylea it can boost any creature you want or gain life or pop a flying creature for 2 damage. Even cycle cards back into the library.

there are two versions of scorpion...?

One of them's supposed to have a French tag, but I think it was removed when the site was updated. Same with a Sylvan Caryatid ; it's supposed to be Japanese.

sounds super fun to run.Definetely looking to run a mono green with nissa stomping ass once m15 is out, card draw is going to be my downfall in that though, but once every single one of my lands are out on the battlefield i suppose the odds of drawing cards i need will improve. Anyway. it sounds like removal is murding your deck. Archetype of Endurance maybe? wont be hard to generate with your mana dorks out

Bump up your 3 drop slot and go with Courser of Kruphix . You're going to have card draw problems and courser will help stop this. I've played against the bow and it does literally nothing - and the little it does do it does once a turn (which is painfully slow), and I've also used Scooze in standard and it's nowhere near as good as it is in modern. Especially in a deck with few killspells - your scooze is going to sit there and not do a lot. Courser of Kruphix answer more problems you have than the other two. You need, need, need to cycle your library or you will run out of steam. Don't worry about shelling out for courser - it's played in modern as well as standard so it won't plummet when it rotates.

You're actually not adding much devotion in the early stages of the game so I find Nylea to be an odd choice. Couldn't she become more ramp?

Isn't Rampant Growth or something similar coming back soon? I would like to see a lot more 2-drop ramp going on.

Thanks for your thoughts ChiefBell. I'll see what I can do to get a hold of a couple.

Nylea is effective in here, either as a beater or as a mana sink. I typically generate a lot of mana that goes to waste late game, and so I can spend that mana to make something bigger..As for ramp, this is the ramp of M15:

It's pretty good, especially with Convoke, but I tend to focus on creature-based ramp more. It's a bit bad if I get sniped at by kill spells, but otherwise it's worked out great.

Now I just have to decide between beaters... M15 gave me almost too many different choices...

Two basic lands onto the battlefield directly? Pretty good.

Yeah, I think I might do a 3-3 split between it and the Courser after Axebane Guardian rotates.

Looking to see what may be the best 6-drop finisher. I've got a few choices:

Soul of Zendikar (experimenting with)

Scuttling Doom Engine (experimented with)

Soul of New Phyrexia

Kalonian Twingrove

Terra Stomper

Time for a checklist!

Pros and Cons

Soul of Zendikar

Pros:

Good mana sink, especially late game when I'm sitting on a couple Axebane Guardian and Karametra's Acolyte .

Good for a use when it hits the grave.

Replaces Arbor Colossus as flier blocker.

Cons:

Lacks trample- needs Nylea, God of the Hunt to be most efficient.

Doesn't immediately impact board when enters battlefield.

No type of evasion/reason not to kill it.

Scuttling Doom Engine

Pros:

Can't be blocked by mana dorks, Elspeth, Sun's Champion tokens, Mutavault , etc.

BIG "dies" trigger- opponents don't want it to die.

Cons:

Huge target- warrants an insta-counterspell or Banishing Light or Fade into Antiquity etc.

Lack of trample- needs Nylea, God of the Hunt to be most efficient.

Doesn't immediately impact board when enters battlefield.

Soul of New Phyrexia

Pros:

Excellent mana sink against removal.

Has trample built in.

Good for a use when it hits the grave.

Cons

Doesn't immediately impact board when enters battlefield.

Mana sink is good, but costly- not very good early-mid game.

Kalonian Twingrove

Pros:

Immediately gives you not one, but two exact creatures.

Can get very big late game.

Good against spot removal- effectively needs 2 Doom Blade s.

Cons:

Lack of trample- needs Nylea, God of the Hunt to be most efficient.

Not very good early game- couple 3/3s are okay, but not great.

Terra Stomper

Pros:

Can't be countered.

Has a body above curve.

Has trample built in.

Cons:

No type of evasion/reason not to kill it.

Large target because of body size.

I haven't yet done testing with all of the above, but I would say that Scuttling Doom Engine is my pick. It's the one I've done the most testing with.

Twingrove was okay, but if played in a ramp shell it doesn't make 2 6/6s, which is what one would think of when they first see the card. It's alright against decks that like to one for one, but against those decks I prefer to play Hornet Queen .

Soul of Zendikar never impressed me unfortunately :/ It just seems WAY too costly for standard -- especially compared to the others.

Soul of New Phyrexia impressed me more than any of the others and it's very good. My problem is that I feel it's not in the right environment right now. Supreme Verdict will soon be gone, and he effectively costs 11 mana to protect himself the turn you play him. Sure, he can be used from the grave, but I ultimately would rather play something with a more immediate impact or that can have some sort of reason NOT to kill it.

Terra Stomper would be my other choice. It's fucking huge. And it does have trample, which means it's going to deal damage....if it lives. Sure "dies to doom blade" is a bad argument for judging creatures, but in a ramp shell it's very relevant, since you're already setting yourself back a few cards by playing mana dorks. When it comes down to it, I feel as though terra stomper is a scary looking card, but not one that will make you happy. Surely not as much as....

Scuttling Doom Engine . This guy is a huge sleeper right now and is bonkers in playtesting. He doesn't need trample because he can't even be blocked by mana dorks, courser, hornet nest, weenies, Elspeth tokens and more. And when they do kill him? Well, he gets them for 6 anyway! His downside is that he is pretty bad against Banishing Light and Silence the Believers , but that requires them to be running those cards AND to have them available. And even then it's just a one-for-one. I've been finding him invaluable time and time again and it's all I can do NOT to be suggesting him to each and every person running decks that can use him.

Hope this helps! :D
