I am very aware of that combo indeed. I guess if I was going for pure combo play I would have put Sliver Queen at the head of the horde, but I find Sliver Overlord give me the consistency and flexibility I prefer. Can use my deck like a toolbox this way. As you mention, a swift Settle the Wreckage can cause catastrophe. One of the reasons that I have equipped myself with a suite of counterspell's and tricks to try and protect my shenanigans lol. Suffice to say, I tend to up playing as the Arch Enemy on more than one occasion

you don't have to put Queen at the helm. Thats the thing. As far as Settle the Wreckage You can just use an altar effect on like Zulaport Cutthroat and win in response.

I wouldn't recommend slotting in The World Tree for the following reasons:
- It comes into play tapped, making it's impact very limited - no matter what the turn you play it.
- It's tertiary ability has no applicability to your deck. You aren't running any Gods. In my eyes, Slivers are Gods but I digress, this card has an ability you will never use.
- In my opinion the most relevant part of this card is it's Secondary ability - the psuedo Chromatic Lantern effect. I wish it didn't have that "6 lands" requirement. If it didn't, I could definitely recommend it and I would see myself running it in a deck as well. But alas, it gives me Empowered Autogenerator vibes in that from initial inspection it seems like it could be cool...but after thinking it over it's really quite average.

Thanks for the insight. Kind of confirms my own thoughts. Have recently been looking at some original duals, but turns out brexit has now made them real expensive in UK. Thanks brexit. Lol

I too once embarked on the quest for Revised Dual lands. Don't give up hope, it'll take time, patience, and a bit of money. Here are a few suggestions that could help.
-
Layaway at your LGS - this is contingent on if you have a particularly good relationship with your shop. From my experience you put down about 10% the card is worth. The shop will then pull the card aside, and you make regularly scheduled payments on the card until it's paid off.
-
Odd jobs - I got lucky with this, but I found an older gentleman who happened to be a legacy player - exclusively. I asked if I could do some odd jobs for him over a weekend to pay for a Revised Dual. For about 8 hours, I earned $20 per hour (more or less) weeding his rather large garden. After doing enough work I earned a card. It felt good to have a story attached to it.
That's about it for the unorthodox ways i've acquired expensive cards. I hope my stories help.

One more thing - in regards to "Layaway at your LGS", there was an additional caveat - if you fall behind on payments, then the store can keep all of the money you put down. That was made apparent to me upfront, so I guess another important thing is a consistent revenue on your end. I usually put aside $50 a paycheck toward my dual. I got it in a few months. So yeah, that's very important.

I would love to do something like that, unfortunately my local LGS is no more and since the covid restrictions etc hit, I have maybe only played 2 or 3 edh games in like 10 months. To say I am missing it is an understatement. I will see if a semi local layaway LGS exists in my new area I live. I have a very steady income so would not be a problem

"unfortunately my local LGS is no more"
So that reminds me of another story. I looked on TCGplayer and saw a rather pricey card I was pursuing was being sold by an LGS roughly 20 minutes away from me. Instead of paying a costly sum i had the idea in my head to try and trade for it. Unfortunately, I discovered that the store was closed for about a month. But I was determined to try and make the trade so I looked up the store's facebook page and found the owner's contact info. I reached out to them via facebook messenger and after about a week of waiting I arranged a meet up. We met up at the foodcourt of the mall the store used to be in. He brought the card, we made the trade and as a bonus he told me the tale of why his wayward LGS was no more. I'll give the long short of it with a bit of context:
I'm from Baltimore City, in Maryland - which is on the east coast of the U.S. Baltimore in particular is not a very nice place (See the HBO television series "The Wire" for more context). The area where the LGS was is called East Point - which is an area dominated by Hillbillies (or Waterbillies as we call them), and individuals with Hood mentalities (mind you I am painting broad strokes here - not all people are the same because they're from a certain area). Regardless, the area - especially the mall (also called East Point) is dominated by unsophisticated people who actively choose the least desirable behavior in public. The shop has had to struggle with all kinds of situations from these other patrons - typically large gatherings would form near the shop because the mall would rent out party space for large groups for viewing big American football games, UFC fights and other events of the like. Actual fights (between grown ass adults) breaking out were common, but during one particular gathering - a stampede broke out. A lot of injuries, but no one died. Rumor has it a gun was brandished. That pretty much broke the store owner's back though. He couldn't worry about his own safety, let alone the safety of his patrons - he thought it best to pack up and try something different.
Whew that was a tangent. Basically what I was getting at was maybe you should look up the owners of your old LGS - see if they have any cards they're willing to sell and see what kind of deal you can work out. That and don't go to Baltimore. Well to be fair, there are some nice parts - but don't EVER go to East Point. It's a shit hole. LOL.

Scroll Rack would be nice. You find a hand you don't really like or use Mirri to discover something else you might want and then combine that with the Scroll Rack to get the sliver you really want into your hand.

Hi jsnrice, Thanks for stopping by. So I see your suggestion of ScrollRack and like it as an idea indeed. I would probably be more so looking at it as something to sift through to my non creature spells. Sliver Overlord does a fine job of searching out the members of the hive I need. What would you take out for it though? Making cuts is always the bit I struggle with.
Look forward to your response

Sorry, that was meant to link to Scroll Rack... whoops!
January 19, 2021 7:34 p.m.
I'm not really sure. I have Scroll Rack in my Niv-Mizzet storm deck and I can usually find an infinite combo by turn 7. I had heard of Scroll Rack but pulled one out of a Commander Legends deck and am just in love with it. It's a backup for Overlord. You can use it in a similar way to Mirri's Guile by sifting through a hand that might be alright to find a Sliver that will give everything shroud (i.e. Crystalline) or something else that you need in a pinch. I'm thinking of putting SR is almost every EDH deck I have. It's similar to Mana Crypt. You just get so much value out of it.

Ok here you go. I've been doing some research on protecting tribal based decks from things like Witch's Vengeance but equally important is synergizing off of the tribal creatures. Check out this deck: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/nicol-bolas-dragon-tribal-edh-deck/
There's some neat enchantments that dish out some bonuses for having the same creatures of the same type. Check it out!

Its definitely some good research material jsnrice. Nothing hear I would use for my hive, but could certainly see some use in some builds. Are you using some if these tricks?
January 26, 2021 7:06 a.m.
I'm trying to keep up on all the creature synergy cards but it's hard. Oh and another thought Doombeard1984 Why not add Sakashima of a Thousand Faces into the deck? So many good Commander Legends cards to select from. Sakashima can copy any legendary including the Hivelord, Queen, First Sliver, etc. Imagine having two cascade triggers instead of one everytime a sliver spell is played if Sakashima has copied the First Sliver. Just an interesting thought. Using Sakashima in my Niv Mizzet deck to copy Niv and it does work.

jsnrice: Spark Double is another option for doing the same thing lol

jsnrice and JeanYass, thank you for your suggestions. I feel leaning heavily into things like cascade, while fun, adds an element of total randomness, which could actually end up hindering my ability to "go off". I don't doubt it would be fun to build the deck into the cascade mechanic, it would probably require some reimagining of what cards I use, and the overall mana curve. Also, building in Clone type stuff, well, it just doesn't seem that amazing. I would struggle to take anything out, just so in theory I could have 2 copies of a sliver. The benefits would be negligible (if any) for most of them. 2 lots of indestructible, trample, shroud or any other ability like this would only be relevant once. Feels a little....redundant.
Thank you for taking the time to make suggestions. I really appreciate it. If I am missing something, please let me know lol.

Doombeard1984: the copy effect would be for any stackable effect, such as Lavabelly Sliver or Spiteful Sliver, or a commander with a stackable effect such as Sliver Legion. as for what to take out, there are plenty of things here that aren't really helping your deck, such as Training Grounds since you only have 3 total creatures with activated abilities that require generic mana. thats way too few to warrant Training Grounds.
January 27, 2021 2:41 a.m.
i'd also remove the board wipes since creatures are your win condition.
January 27, 2021 2:43 a.m.
you're also missing other stackable sliver effects, such as Predatory Sliver, Sinew Sliver, and Leeching Sliver.

JeanYass, Thank you for your response. Whilst I can see yo reasoning, I must disagree on your analysis. Let me address the points you make:
-
Training Grounds - I indeed may only have a few targets for Training Grounds to have an impact on. However, one of those is my commander, Sliver Overlord, enabling me to tutor for any Sliver in my deck, for . Also is super good with Sliver Queen, again making each Slivery Baby only cost . Necrotic Sliver is again, gives me the ability to destroy any permanent for and a Sliver Sacrifice. Also, don't forget, Mirror Entity is also a "Sliver". Thats a reduction in that creatures activation straight away. Essentially, Training Grounds enables my deck to "fire off" easier.
-
Boardwipes - Firstly, boardwipes are kind of a staple of EDH. Sometimes, boardstates get away from you, and you have to reset. Also, with some of the combinations of my boardstates, the effects are way worse for opponents. Sliver Hivelord gives my creatures indestructable. If have a mana producers, such as Manaweft Sliver, Jokulhaups is not as destructive to myself as it is to my opponents, and will leave my enemies mana deprived etc. Blasphemous Act + Spiteful Sliver is a game ender, if I have managed to "go off" and tutor and play all the slivers in my deck (Using Manaweft Sliver/Gemhide Sliver + Intruder Alarm + A haste enabling Sliver) Spiteful Sliver's effect will happen and can kill players off.
-
The other stackable Slivers - I actually used to run the Slivers you mentioned in the your comment. As my deck mainly wins via combo, not so much combat (although it is perfectly capable of "turning sideways"), taking them out was the best option. the +1/+1 and +0/+1 are kind of incidental, and don't cause a massive swing in advantage. Leeching Sliver i always liked, but it is not super relevant to the deck.
Hope this gives you an explanation as to why I have what I have in my deck. Any questions, just ask
January 27, 2021 2:24 p.m.
i'm still gonna have to hard disagree on all points, but you do you. blowing up your own creatures seems super counterproductive.

All I will say JeanYass, is we are all entitled to our opinions. I dont know if I was clear on my previous post, but the aim is to either recur (with Patriarch's Bidding or Yawgmoth's Will ), Blink my stuff ( Teferi's Protection ), or just have my boardwipes so one sided my opponents cant some back ( Sliver Hivelord , especially with Jokulhaups ).
Also, sometimes, you just gotta reset.
Anyway, thank you for your input, I really appreciate it.
January 28, 2021 3:49 a.m.
JeanYass Training Grounds is absolutely essential. It pivots around his Sliver Overlord to making tutoring out Slivers very easy to do. Doombeard1984 what do you think of Sakashima of a Thousand Faces? I realize it's not a guarantee but the ideal scenario would be to clone your Sliver Overlord then tutor out even more slivers with the reduced cost of Training Grounds. Also what's the point of Intruder Alarm?
ShaDoWz_6677 says... #1
Doombeard1984 WAS. I had OG Duals, fetches, shocks. Not the mana base we have now or anything. But i sold out of the hive long before The First Sliver was a thing.
One Settle the Wreckage and your done.
By the way, i'll give you this. Gemhide Sliver + Sliver Queen + Training Grounds + Any haste enabler Heart Sliver Blur Sliver etc... And you make infinite tokens for Sliver Legion to make BIG unblockable Slivers with Shifting Sliver in play.
The fact that Sliver Overlord is the commander makes this very easy to pull off and can usually just end games very very fast.
