The goal is to get your Marit Lage as quickly as possible. Some of these lists feature Pithing Needle to stop an opponent's Wastelands, but we can use our own Wastelands for that just as easily. We also have some flexibility with Life from the Loam and Crucible of Worlds to bring back failed combo attempts or lands the opponent has killed or to get our own Wasteland lock going, which is why those are preferable over Needles. Plenty of tutors for the combo, including Demonic Consultation which works here since all 3 combo pieces are 4-ofs as well as the majority of our hate cards both pre and post board.

The board includes bullets against Shops and Dredge, which can both get out of hand fast for this deck, as well as a couple hedges against Oath or creature decks including Mentor. The maindeck Decays are also good all-purpose hedge cards in the current meta.

Getting a Crop Rotation hit by Mental Misstep can be brutal, but that's why we run such redundancy and tutors as well as the Life from the Loam and Crucible recursion enablers. If you're in an overly blue meta those can be swapped for Deathrite or Needles or something else to avoid the blowout (though the two cards I mentioned also get countered by it haha). If you put Needles in your deck make sure to swap out Wastelands in favor of Ghost Quarters.
