Good ol' fashioned Izzet beatdown for casual play between homebrews and the sometimes encountered 'casual' modern/legacy player (we know who you are).
Plays out with hasty burn spells like Lightning Bolt, Lightning Strike, and Magma Jet to stave off any early attacks while Monastery Swiftspear gets some hits in early. Come turn 3 (or whenever he decides to show up), the MVP, Nivix Cyclops drops to lead this rag-tag bunch to the win. Use Assault Strobe
+
Distortion Strike
+
Nivix Cyclops
together for good measure.
In the utility arena,
Condescend
and Cyclonic Rift add the blue disruption to keep the heat off of the cyclops. Also, what kind of Izzet deck would this be if there wasn't a Guttersnipe or 4 of. Makes for a good decoy/chump when the time comes, but gets you decent pings in from the high instant and sorcery density of the deck. Also, for removal that red cannot make, there is Rapid Hybridization, so larger threats can be blocked or burned later.
As for sideboard, Nivmagus Elemental is a great early creature to get out, particularly against mirrors. If spells are expected to fizzle, he gets swapped in so that the fizzle has an advantage to it--MAKE BIG CREATURE. Includes other counters, like Swan Song and Dissolve to push through the more grindy matchups. Also has Izzet Charm for versatility.
Any sweet spells I don't know of here? Please comment or just tell me what you think!! :D
