I think both are good cards, I personally play Ghostly Prison in my WuBG deck because it is fetchable with Zur the Enchanter , but I don't know if Norn's Annex is any better because I feel like most players would be willing to pay the life to push damage through, not as many would be willing to pay the mana to push damage though.

PlattBonnay: In terms of countering kiki/twin, it's less that they wouldn't mind paying the life, but more that they would no longer be able to use their swarm of infinite Pestermite or Deceiver Exarch , as they would have to 'life out' in order to swing with enough to kill me, which would cause them to lose the game before their creatures actually attack.

Yeah, in any matchup against twin it would shut them down, but if you were in a matchup against Naya Zoo or Jund or another creature deck and they are swinging 3 creatures that could do 3 or 4 damage each, they would be usually be willing to pay the 2 life for each because they still do more damage to you than themselves (3 to you, 2 to themselves, they still net 1 damage).

PlattBonnay: True. It's things like this that are making me consider Paradise Mantle , if just to turn my turn 3 into an early turn 4.

Yeah, ramp is never a bad thing and the fact that it is a free equipment is great synergy with Puresteel Paladin

Don't forget 4x Ancient Den as a white artifact land!

July 1, 2014 11:15 p.m.

PlattBonnay says... #7

Ancient Den is banned in modern. Affinity would be way to good with more artifact lands.

This deck is awesome. I have been racking my brain to come up with a good Puresteel Paladin build forever, and it looks like you found it!

I also love Mirran Crusader and all of the swords, so this is right up my ally. I will sleeve this up and give it a try to see if there is anything I would recommend changing, but at first glance it looks amazing! +1

The way I heard it, Affinity just dominated the meta when artifact lands were a thing. They actually had to do an emergency ban midyear for it. You can do all sorts of stupid things with colored artifact lands... like get out Blightsteel Colossus on turn one, for example. (although this also requires another banned/restricted card: Tinker .)

It goes like this:

T1: play Seat of the Synod , then throw down Mox Opal , then tap the land and play Sol Ring . This activates Mox Opal 's metalcraft ability, and tap both it and Sol Ring to activate Tinker . Throw down Blightsteel.

CurdBrosBrewingCo: Thanks, I'd hoped that you'd like it! When testing this deck, there are a few alt. builds you might wanna try.

First, -1 Sword of Feast and Famine and -1 Sword of Light and Shadow for +2 Steelshaper's Gift .

Second, kicking Elspeth for something more immediately useful. I've been toying around with things like Accorder's Shield and especially Paradise Mantle for some 'free' early draw and metalcraft boost. In the case of Paradise Mantle , the early mana might come in handy too, although the costs of this deck aren't that restrictive.

Let me know what you find, and thanks for dropping by, as always =)

Love the deck! I'm more of a standard player but if I would ever switch to modern, this is the kind of deck I would love to run. Heck just might with how much I really like it...

slovakattack Ah yeah you're right. I can see why they would be banned haha thanks for such a nice description!

I've been trying to build a Knight deck as well which used those swords (which are a paycheck's worth), and so I am definitely liking the idea here. I was wondering why you only had one Steelshaper's Gift but I see it's nice to know you're rotating cards too.

PlattBonnay says... #13

I can explain the singleton Steelshaper's Gift . It acts as an extra chance to draw any piece of equipment, but at the cost of one additional mana. So it essentially makes the swords cost 4 and the greaves cost 3. So while it is useful to draw it, it isn't essential to the deck's operation. For the most part, it adds consistency, and at the very worst, it thins the deck.

My Modern experience is limited so I can't offer much advice. But I can say this is killer in playtest and as someone looking into the format it certainly gave me some new cards to look at. +1

Kage-no-Raito, bigpappyj, thank you for the kind words, and for taking the time to stop by! =)

If you have any suggestions or ideas, lay em' on me. I'd be happy to try them out.

PlattBonnay: You know, I'm kinda wishing that Mycosynth Lattice was a turn faster or so. It'd be perfect for my deck, with Indomitable Archangel out.

July 3, 2014 12:42 a.m.

PlattBonnay says... #17

Yeah, Mycosynth Lattice is a ridiculously powerful card when purposefully built into a deck. I use in in one of my EDH decks in combination with Karn, Silver Golem and Darksteel Forge to blow up my opponents lands and make all my stuff indestructible.

July 3, 2014 7:10 a.m.

slovakattack says... #18

PlattBonnay: Unfortunately, It's not gonna be a thing unless I go full artifact-ramp cheese, which would be a completely different deck. I suppose if I had Paradise Mantle , then Mycosynth Lattice would be possible, but I don't think I'm prepared to devote a large part of the deck to getting it out on a reasonable turn- especially since the only way that would actually help me is if Indomitable Archangel was also out. I'd like Darksteel Forge a lot better, but adding -that- would be getting into serious ramp territory, like Mox Opal and Sol Ring . I'm currently both unprepared to pay 240 bucks for a playset of Mox Opal , and unwilling to cut out a large portion of my deck to devote to getting Darksteel Forge out.

Hopefully, the deck doesn't need it. If it does, then it's not very well constructed, it it? :P

Be careful with those Lightning Greaves ; there is no equipping shrouded creatures. +1.

July 3, 2014 12:31 p.m.

slovakattack says... #20

cmskinny: Indeed. However, the advantage of the Puresteel Paladin is that I may de-equip and re-equip artifacts for free (provided I've hit that '3' limit).

So, if I want my Mirran Crusader to have a sword during the main phase, and he has Lightning Greaves equipped, then I can simply de-attatch the greaves, attach the sword and re-attach the greaves at no cost.

Thanks for the +1, and stopping by! If there are any more suggestions you have, please don't hesitate to ask.

Scorprix says... #21

Just want to point out, and I hope this doesn't sound mean, but I don't think you know how equipments work. You don't de-equip, you ONLY re-equip. You just equip directly from one creature to another.

July 3, 2014 3:49 p.m.

slovakattack says... #22

Scorprix: I meant that you can just shuffle the equipment around (so long as you have more than 1 creature.)

Sorry if I was unclear. Bad choice of wording on my part. What do you think of the deck in general?

cian114 says... #23

Linvala might be better in the sideboard to help against splinter twin decks.

July 3, 2014 10:03 p.m.

cian114: Yeah, the only reason she isn't is because... well, money. If/when I scrape the 80 bucks to get a couple, I'll throw her in instead of Suppression Field .

July 3, 2014 10:06 p.m.

cian114 says... #25

Ah, if only humans pooped gold... Anyways, the deck looks great. It's always refreshing to see different deck archetypes in a format with, more or less, 4 really good deck archetypes.
