As a Bogles player I hope I never have to play this deck :). Love it +1 for sure

Haha, this deck is designed to run over those hyper aggro decks that rely on few creatures and lots of pumps. Glad you like it, and good luck in never having to play it or something similar! :)

I like this deck! I run a different mono black build: Mono Black Devoted Control.

Something I've noticed about the modern format is that Pack Rat is amazing and will just take over games against some decks. Obviously you'd need to board him out when you brought in your token hate, but he's enough of a powerhouse to be in the main.

Erebos, God of the Dead is actually reasonable against a lot of decks, most notably Soul Sisters, and to a lesser extent control.

I don't think Blood Artist does enough to be worth his spot.

Killkow I can see how rat decks can get overwhelming, though I think including them here wouldn't work as well. Blood Artist is actually surprisingly good in here, especially in combination with Fleshbag Marauder or Merciless Executioner. In a match I played against my friend's merfolk deck, the Blood Artist did a good 6 or 7 damage through the course of one game, which won me the match in the end. He's not to be underestimated by amy means. I've given Erebos some thought for my side board, but I'm waiting for Theros to rotate to see if he drops in price any more.

Thanks for the suggestions and glad you like it!

That's impressive value off of artist. Is that typical though?

As for Pack Rat, it's not so much as rat value, as much as it is just a dense enough threat that it either eats a removal spell or gets out of hand immediately. I run him strictly as a value two drop, and he's done nothing but impress me. He's not great for all decks, but I certainly think he's worth a bit of testing here.

The reason I like Blood Artist and other threats in this deck like Geralf is because they are difficult to decide how to deal with. If Blood Artist hangs around against a deck with lots of creatures, it's likely going to mean they will be losing 2 to 4 life on average, and I will be gaining that much. The only case this wouldn't happen is if he's removed right away or I have to chump block with him, and even then he has the ability to do minor damage and life gain while wasting the opponents play.

I see what you're saying about the rat though. I'll have to play test your deck to see how well I like him.

I understand now. He either provides a bit of value, or gets a removal spell out of the way. Either way, he's pretty awkward to deal with.

Stained Mind and Dashed Hopes are nasty cards; I played this against my almost creatureless turbofog/discard bleed deck that I have been playing around with and it was difficult without Leyline of Sanctity out to protect me from targeting.

Good to know! I haven't played it against many control oriented decks yet, so I appreciate the feedback that the sideboard runs well against turbo fog at least.

Leyline of Sanctity is very effective against a deck like this, but that's the case against most monoblack decks in general.

Greedy Dragons and their Shiny Toys

You should try out my Izzet deck against this, it might be your worst case scenario as I rely on little creatures, can gain hexproof and prevent creatures from attacking.

Have you taken this to FNM? Looks sweet!

I haven't, though I don't really do FNM's beyond my own small group. If I were to take one of my decks, it would probably be this one though. Glad you like it!

Bone SplintersBone Splinters was a great suggestion I got for my Blood Artist deck. It's been good in the limited play testing I've done with it.

Although Bone Splinters is a good card for a deck like this, I think adding direct removal along with everything that forces the sacrifice is a little redundant. Merciless Executioner and Fleshbag Marauder play very nicely with Blood Artist as it is.

If I ever change it up to be geared towards direct removal, I'd definitely consider it.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Ashling, the Extinguisher and Archfiend of Depravity are very good if you want to keep their board under control. Ashling is also really good because she circumvents player hexproof, but you can still make them sac a creature of your choice.

This is a deck of a similar theme I have that works very well, despite being on a somewhat bigger budget.

I like Archfiend of Depravity a lot, though he's a bit slow for this deck I think. Even if he does come out, I don't think his primary purpose would be board control, which is what he's best at doing. I don't think I've ever seen Ashling, the Extinguisher, but she's an interesting prospect. The 4 CMC slot is currently occupied by Desecration Demon, which typically works well if the deck has been doing its job before he comes out, and if it hasn't been doing it sufficiently, he presents a good way to frustrate your opponent by having to choose between a rock and a hard place. Erebos, God of the Dead is in here for play testing and I can't see him as being a bad 1 of over Ashling at the moment. He's got a great chance of coming out as a big indestructible creature with a bonus against life gain decks. The draw option is also something I feel I'm missing, which is another reason I'm considering him.

I'll have to do some more play testing. Thanks for the suggestions, and I'll have to take a look at yours when I get a chance.

Nice deck, +1 ;)

What about Abyssal Persecutor?

Big beater, your opponents will need to have it on the battlefield not to lose the game once it beated eough..

Once the game went on, just keep it as a blocker.

Oh, so you're telling me you have 0 or less life and you don't want to attack cause you don't want to break it to lose the game? soooo sweet..

But then here comes the Executioner/Marauder and you just sac it to win :D

And it's also a cheap card, such as the Desecration Demon

Abyssal Persecutor is tricky. He's a great card in the right deck, and I hadn't realized he went down in price recently, which is cool, but I'm not convinced this is the right deck for him. My thought is that the only time he's necessary is when I'd be low on life and need to delay the game, which would likely see me at 0 or less life before the opponent. I'm not likely to lose to many creature decks with this either, since the objective is to make them sac everything they put on the field.

Glad you like the deck though, and thanks for the suggestion!
