Modern FNM —May 30, 2014

Note: Seeing as how the FNM was modern, I threw in a spare Ajani Vengeantfoil I had, who is just plain awesome, so keep that in mind. The store is pretty small without too much hardcore competition so my (almost) standard deck placed third with a record of 3-1.

Round 1: Simic Evolve 2-0

Bad matchup for the other guy, and his deck was not completed. Also simic evolve isn't the most competitive deck on the block. Game 1 I managed to get Ajani Vengeantfoil's -7 off and then Supreme Verdict. Proceeded to beat him up with AEtherling. Game 2 was trickier. He managed to get a Sword of Body and Mind on a Cloudfin Raptor and start milling everything away and smashing me with wolves, and reequipping whenever I killed his creatures. Thankfully, Ajani Vengeantfoil managed to tap down his only Island, and I stabilized at 3 life to bring him down from 20. Scary game.

Round 2: White Midrange 2-0

He had a deck based around building up creatures with walkers like Elspeth, Knight-Errant and Ajani, Caller of the Pride to buff up his already buffable guys like Gideon's Avenger. Didn't have too much trouble here, really.

Round 3: Vampire Aggro 0-2

This was already a tough matchup for me. It also didn't help that both games I didn't reach four lands until at least turn 6 or 7. Lived off of charms and an Anger of the Gods for as long as I could. Game 2 he sided in most of his sideboard and I lost again without mana again. I was really disappointed because I've beaten this deck with mine quite a few times in the past, and this would have paired me with the match for first. Oh well.

Round 4: Green Aggro/Midrange

Game one was a bit scary at first with a turn 3 Leatherback Baloth coming at me as well as Polukranos, World Eater next turn, but I managed to Supreme Verdict a few times, which really hurt him, and I swung in for the win with 23 1/1's from Assemble the Legion and my trusty 8/1 unblockable AEtherling. Game to I popped Ajani Vengeantfoil relatively fast and got my final win.

Good Rounds, I'm excited to try it out in standard. The shop is pretty small so I only got 2 prize packs for third, but oh well.

I think you should drop the second AEtherling to bring the deck to an even 60 cards. Otherwise looks really solid! I like it.

I didn't even realize it was at 61 until this morning and kind of freaked, somehow happened on accident. AEtherling is one of my favorite win conditions as he is ridiculously hard to get rid of, and it's fun to beat people up with him, but maybe one in the sideboard would be good. Thanks for the feedback!
