Overview

What's going on everybody! My name is Nillstan the Mad Shaman, and welcome back to The Mad Shaman's Brewery!

Been a while, huh? Definitely. I've been so focused on my first dive into the world of cEDH that I haven't really working on anything else. And as much as I love my Magnum Opus, deck:saffi-sac-back-primer, it does get old over time. But one thing that DOESN'T get old for me is old reliable. My FAVORITE archetype.

Equipment!!!

Oh how I've missed this. There's just nothing quite like it. Swapping equipment around, crafting the perfect suit for a creature of your choice, not losing them all at the whim of a single creature removal spell (SUCK IT AURAS). Its just the best. And now that there's a lot more support for it it'll be EVEN BETTER than the original! Without further ado, let's hop right into the deck tech!

Why NecroSlinger?

Unlike with my Saffi deck, what commander(s) I chose is the subject of a lot of debate. There are TONS of options. I could add Black, I could use different partners, I could even set up a version built to work with Narset, Enlightened Master . At the end of the day, the choice came down to what I wanted out of my colors and command zone.

. Jeskai Colors At Least

Equipment gets the most out of its gameplay in Boros colors. You get all the best creatures, tutors, and equipment. The problem with Boros is that it's the worst color combo in EDH due to a couple of reasons. The biggest among them being card advantage. The addition of blue covers that weakness better than any other. Additionally, I could play Black as well if I wanted. I eventually decided against it because while the tutors are nice, it adds little else. The commanders are too expensive, the card draw is worse than Blue's, and the answers are negligible because I'm in both Blue and White. Also, the power of A M E R I C A.

. Card Advantage

Where your typical Boros Equipment decks falter is following through on that early advantage they're so good at getting. That tends to make you look like more of a threat than you are, even when you've been knocked down and can't get back on your feet. Having card advantage in the command zone is a very good way to mitigate this downside. This allowed me to justify playing Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist over Kraum, Ludevic's Opus . Not only is it much cheaper at a much more aggressive 3 cmc, it also allows for consistent card advantage rather than depending on my opponents to make it happen. Because if equipment is good at one thing, it's pushing damage

. Cheap Partners If Possible

I had to make the choice of whether or not to play partners. This choice was pretty easy. It would allow me to play 2 cheap creatures that can hold Equipment, adding a lot of consistency to that half of the puzzle. The real choice was which ones. The options were plentiful to get Jeskai, especially with the new partners coming out soon. It eventually boiled down to wanting those 2 bodies to be as cheap as possible so I could get on the board and get the pressure going and keep it that way. This was extremely helpful when deciding between Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder , Akiri, Line-Slinger , and Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker . This was the MUCH more difficult decision. Akiri provides speed, power, and potential for growth. Bruse provides the extremely relevant Double Strike. Ishai grows and evades.

The entire decision boiled down to the fact that in gameplay, Akiri's aggressiveness perfectly aligned with Ludevic's card advantage, creating a wonderful blend of speed and backend. Overall, I can't complain.
