Planeswalker (1)

Currently a deck I'm testing for GP Richmond in March of 2014.

American Flash Control aka UWR Control aka Wafo-Tapa Draw Go is one of my favorite decks in modern, and currently the only pure control deck I play in any format. I've been playing the deck since the summer of 2013, and haven't been able to put it down since.

The goal of American Flash Control is to nullify everything your opponent does until you can cast Sphinx's Revelation. To do this, the deck is loaded with a hefty does of counter magic in the form of Cryptic Command, Mana Leak and Spell Snare, burn in the form of Lightning Bolt, Electrolyze. and Lightning Helix, and hard removal with Path to Exile. Meanwhile, the deck gives you a continuous source of card advantage through Electrolyze, Cryptic Command, Think Twice, and Sphinx's Revelation as well as Snapcaster Mage and even Vendilion Clique.

One of the reasons I enjoy playing this deck is because its so versatile and has so many sideboard options. While there are many one ofs in the sideboard, there are a few two ofs that I believe should be in every American/UWR control sideboard

-Celestial Purge: This pulls its weight in more matchups then you can possibly think of. This lets you deal with any of Jund's major sources of card advantage, and works very well against burn and other decks as well.

-Counterflux: Mostly for Splinter Twin, Scapeshift, and any other combo deck, this also pulls its weight in mirror matchups and its importance cannot be underestimated.

-Stony Silence: Resolving this on turn two against Affinity cripples that deck by a huge margin. It also pulls its weight strongly against Tron (shutting down Expedition Map), Birthing Pod decks, and Eggs (if that is still a deck).

The various one ofs in the sideboard are fort the following matchups

-Batterskull for Jund

-Crucible of Worlds for the mirror matchup, Tron, and even Scapeshift.

-Spellskite for hexproof and other weird decks. -Wear / Tear in a variety of matchups and is just a general very versatile card.

-Sowing Salt for Tron and Scapeshift.

-Swan Song for Scapeshift and Storm.

-Pyroclasm against Splinter Twin and any decks running Lingering Souls.

-Stormbreath Dragon for the mirror matchup, as its protection from white ability makes it strictly better than Thundermaw Hellkite in this situation.
