That aside I am thinking this is pretty weak to control, I ran my Foggin Hell, another Maze's End Deck! against it and absolutely wrecked it 3 times in a row. Detention spheres can take away all of your win conditions, and you don't appear to really have back up plans. maybe if you had a very control-hating sideboard you'd be better off? I'd go for Pithing Needle , Wear / Tear , maybe a singleton Elixir of Immortality , and even possibly a singleton AEtherling . a couple of Negate (maybe Izzet Charm ) and an extra assemble the legion couldn;t hurt either.

wow this deck iz the shiz no longer do i have to worry about those girls infecting my life totals with coodies. thank you marok

You need a sideboard for control decks because obviously Chained to the Rocks , Detention Sphere , Pacifism and Sphere of Safety aren't going to do a lot. Sideboard Oblivion Ring and whatever else white has that can deal with planeswalkers. Nevermore ?
December 22, 2013 12:56 p.m.
neither of those are standard, the pillowfort deck kinda flops in that respect, pithing needle is pretty close to the best he can do, maybe wear // tear...
December 22, 2013 1:56 p.m.
I assumed this was modern (incorrectly) because I was just lookign at another of his decks that was modern.

Against control you need t consider the fact that your creature removal is pretty much useless and you need to go for things that combat, planeswalkers, instants and sorceries.
You're already in blue so you have access to Syncopate , Dissolve and Negate . This can combat their AEtherling , Sphinx's Revelation and planeswalkers. Aside from that perhaps up the number of Assemble the Legion and maybe look at creatures that can irritate them - Judge's Familiar , Heliod, God of the Sun , Daxos of Meletis , Soldier of the Pantheon

Thank you so much, I'm going to add Judge's Familiar in the board... Heliod, God of the Sun to the main, Dissolve in the side with Pithing Needle , alongside Wear / Tear , thank you for the recommendations!

I feel like Obzedat, Ghost Council , Mutavault , Rakdos Keyrune or something of the like would cause problems for this deck due to all the sorcery speed removal. However, that is the problem with UWR in general. Other than that little tweak, I like it! Sphere of Safety is such a fun card.
December 22, 2013 10:30 p.m.
What would you recommend to fix this problem? Warleader's Helix ? Lightning Strike any ideas?
December 22, 2013 11:15 p.m.
Honestly the best way to deal with those problems I've found is to just outrace them, hit sphinx and start churning out 1/1 soldiers as fast as possible. In the case of Obzedat, minimizing the damage by having a blocker or being set up with your prison is about all you can do other than just countering him before he gets to become a problem.

That's a good idea, but is hard to race an Obzedat because of the lifegain, and there is never a guarantee that you will have a weenie-factory in hand when it hits. Celestial Flare might be a sideboard option for stuff like that. Warleader's Helix is a much more solid card than people think it is, but it still doesn't solve the problem of an Obzedat bearing down on you, unless you have a soldier blocking, and that is highly situational. I like 2-3 copies of Celestial Flare in the sideboard personally (it also helps you deal with Blood Baron of Vizkopa , which doesn't get hit by Detention Sphere , Chained to the Rocks , Pacifism , Last Breath , Azorius Charm , or Warleader's Helix ). Once you Verdict, they should only have one attacking creature the next turn, so if you set it up right it serves as basically targeted removal.

Oh, and you can't block Blood Baron with tokens either, they're all white. I guess Orzhov would give you problems, lol.
December 23, 2013 1:05 a.m.
Blood Baron is actually really easy. Try Agoraphobia for him.
December 23, 2013 1:30 a.m.
Also just for clarification I'm suggesting Agoraphobia as a replacement for Pacifism
December 23, 2013 1:31 a.m.
Also Celestial Flare is a really good idea Cory! I could honestly see 2 mainboard instead of the helix in this deck. (Warleader's Helix just doesn't cut it when you have t deal with Blood Baron of Vizkopa , Obzedat, Ghost Council and Stormbreath Dragon ).

I might actually replace the Last Breath , because of the lessened limitations, and just to be able to keep your Warleader's Helix . Just my opinion though =)
December 23, 2013 11:11 a.m.
Oh I'm not the author, but you may be right. In a traditional control deck you'd see flares come out in place of Last Breath . I just feel like Warleader's Helix is a card that would only be really good if 2 of the biggest threats in the game didn't happen to be pro-white.
December 23, 2013 11:14 a.m.
Thank you guys! Now I need help on my sideboard... So any more recommendations?
December 23, 2013 11:35 a.m.
Well, your hardest matchup is probably control. So Pithing Needle to Break Planeswalkers, Wear / Tear to free your win conditions from Detention Sphere , Negate and Dissolve to deny them?
December 23, 2013 12:28 p.m.
So funny, I didn't see all you names in the +1 section... I think you might have miss clicked.
