Aminatou and Her Giant Death Ray

Commander / EDH* WUB (Esper)

Mecha-Tech

With some help from Discord and /r/EDH on Reddit, I've come up with this.

The difficulty I have with EDH decks is focusing them properly, and with a commander like Aminatou, there are so many routes you can go that it's easy to try and do everything. While technically it would be possible, it's highly improbably to consistently get infinite turns, set up a flicker engine, have the Superfriends arrive, draw your entire deck and win with Lab Maniac, and burn the table down with Aetherflux Reservoir when you're trying to do all those things at once. Taking a hatchet to Aminatou and the deck with a billion options has led me to this.

I'm calling this deck Aminatou and her Giant Death Ray.

Sounds like a twisted Ghibli movie, doesn't it?

The goal of the deck is to get Aminatou's death ray operational. This is one of the larger combos in the deck and requires three parts to be on board - Sensei's Divining Top, Bolas's Citadel, and Aetherflux Reservoir - to go off. These three cards enable an infinite combo and allows us to laser the entire table to death. Fun, right?

In the event that this is prevented from happening, either through counterspells or exiling of important combo pieces, another route is to win with Jace or Lab Maniac.

The Combos:

Aminatou's Death Ray: Sensei's Divining Top + Bolas's Citadel + Aetherflux Reservoir

I win by not having cards: Lab Maniac + Demonic Consultation/Tainted Pact to empty my library, then draw a card. T3feri allows me to do this during an opponent's end step.

  • 3 Jan 2020: Trying to find spots for Tithe, Mana Crypt, Imperial Seal, Whispering Madness, and Alms Collector.

  • 6 Jan 2020: Still waiting for these cards to arrive, but played a few games to see how things worked. My local meta is lots of graveyards and swarms of creatures. Just a Bojuka Bog and a Cyclonic Rift aren't going to cut it. Trinket Mage is not very good either, and I need a way to get stuff back from my graveyard.

  • 10 Jan 2020: Adjustment of the deck to eliminate a creature-based game plan to the Demonic Consultation/Lab Maniac plan to win in a single turn. More counterspells and board wipes, too.

  • 14 Feb 2020: A suggestion was made that Copy Artifact might be fun, as well as Chain of Vapor/Return to Dust for some anti-artifact hate in order to get Null Rod or Stony Silence off the board. Also Codex Shredder or Argivian Find. I like both, but i'll probably try the Argivian Find to start with, since it's instant. -Whispering Madness, -Alms Collector, -Yahenni's Expertise, +Copy Artifact, +Chain of Vapor, +Argivian Find.
