Aminatou and her Imaginary Friends

Commander / EDH* WUB (Esper)

crash328

This is my Aminatou, the fateshifter deck. The deck primarily utilizes blink/flicker effects to outvalue opponents and control the boardstate until an infinite can occur or the opponents lag too far behind to catch up in terms of advantage.

RAMP Predictably, as an esper deck we have to rely on mana rocks to ramp properly as our land ramp options are limited. We have the requisite Sol Ring and the esper wedge's three Signets Orzhov Signet Dimir Signet and Azorius Signet . We also run our wedge's two available talismans Talisman of Progress and Talisman of Dominance because we want access to colorless mana sources for a particular utility creature. But we don't want to be utterly dependent on mana rocks so we have land ramp in the three cards Myriad Landscape , Wayfarer's Bauble and Solemn Simulacrum who can get our land counts up. An honorable mention here is Sun Titan who in tandem with our fetchlands or the bauble can effectively become a once per turn ramp spell

CARD DRAW Being that this is a flicker deck, I try to use a nice amount of card draw ETB creatures. Baleful Strix provides one card each time it enters the battlefield and is a solid blocker for its cost, and Mulldrifter and Cloudblazer provide us with two each time they enter as well as a little life off of blazer. Then there's the monster that gave this deck its name: Toothy, Imaginary Friend . Not only is this easily searchable creature going to get bigger for each card you draw, if he leaves the field at any time, he nets you a bunch of cards, which if you insta-blink him, he'll see the cards you draw off his own ability and will stick counters right back on himself. But we can't depend on these creatures for cards entirely. I run both Mystic Remora and Rhystic Study to draw extra cards or tax my opponents.

SPOT REMOVAL I'm the type of player who always like to have answers in my hand and a solution to as many problems as possible in my deck. So i run plenty of solid and flexible removal. Namely what i call the W/B Deadly Duo: Vindicate and Anguished Unmaking , as i love the unrestrictive flexibility they have when it comes to targets. As far as specific creature removal, Ravenous Chupacabra is my go to creature removal etb creature who can be blinked multiple times and take out multiple targets and is pretty easy to fetch feom the deck or revive from the graveyard. Big Game Hunter is nice as well, despite being a bit more restricted I also run Path to Exile and Swords to Plowshares as well as they're easily the best at what they do for low mana. And while its only temporary removal Reflector Mage is great for getting me some breathing room from bigger threats for a bit. Venser, Shaper Savant pulls double duty as he can bounce anything and can act as a pseudo counterspell. Speaking of...

COUNTERSPELLS Its not a blue deck without them. I don't like devoting too many slots to counterspells as they can put you at card disadvantage if your not careful but i understand their importance in a control/combo centric deck. So I run the four of them i feel are the most useful. Arcane Denial is a really nice flexible mana cost which this three color deck appreciates, and it replaces itself which is nice. Dovin's Veto is amazing against other control decks and avoiding counter wars even if it cant hit creatures. Pact of Negation is a great in case of emergencies card that is very easy to grab with a variety of cards in the deck. And then the big daddy, Mana Drain is when we want to makes sure our opponents know we're not screwing around.
