Your usage of off-color fetches to such an extreme extent is giving you significantly diminishing returns at the cost of making you quite open to nonbasic hate. Less than 1/4 of your already somewhat worrying land count can survive a Blood Moon, and the various Mox you're running demand that you jump through hoops that I'm not sure you can consistently afford to. You may want to consider the damage that a discard spell such as Unnerve could do to you during the early game - you may never recover. This is made even more awkward by the fact that two of those Mox require you to discard either a blue source or blue card, in which many of your flicker pieces and all of your necessary countermagic reside. I can quite feasibly see you getting into situations where you either lack the answers to stop the table from breaking your early lock attempts, or you have no way to win once your lock is established, giving more time than you'd like for the table to break free. Unwind, Spell Pierce and even Disciple of the Ring may prove handy for overcoming these various issues, shutting down early artifact wipes from opponents who are also trying to ramp and providing a way to re-use countermagic once the heat is focused squarely on you.

I'm also noticing a strong lack of hard wipes, despite your noncreature commander and available colors, as well as few ways to stop their graveyards from fueling them. You may wish to take a look at Bontu's Last Reckoning and Rest in Peace for cheap ways to deal with this(your mileage may vary according to meta).

Deepstriker29, awesome feedback, thank you! This list is more or less the first iteration of what I expect to be a long process as I have not been very successful in building my previous stax deck/s. It is an archetype that I am very interested in and would like to be proficient on in terms of deckbuilding.

You seem to have a more interaction-based understanding and approach to building stax while I, admittedly, designed the deck to enforce it’s gameplay without much regard to how opponent’s might interact along the way. I have put your suggestions under consideration and I would like to hear more of your thoughs on how I should approach the deck.

Hey...I love your writeup. Stax is a cool strategy with Aminatou. Suggestions wise...not sure about Diabolic Intent since you don't run many creatures and you generally wanna flicker them. Maybe replace it with Sensei's Divining Top? I know that this is probably a little high on the CMC but why didn't you include Oath of Teferi?

Thanks for the upvote and the suggestions. I will try to find slots for them. I was initially apprehensive about Oath of Teferi due to its cost and the fact that I only had two PWs in the deck. I gave it a second look and it does make a lot of sense. Thanks again! If anything else comes to mind, please let me know.

Also, thoughts on Kaya, Ghost Assassin? Her +0 blinks creatures and -2 nets you a card and forces everyone to discard a card which is pretty fitting in a stax deck.

Yes, I saw her on the other lists and thought the same. With so many good cards available, i'm actually having a harder time to decide on which cards to cut.

Love your list. Why you run Armageddon? Try Fall of the Thran

Toshiro thanks! I like that Fall of the Thran is a possible target for flicker effects but at 6cmc, the cost just seems too high. I'll think about it though.

hmm I like the idea of stax here because you can reset the pieces with aminatou, very nice!!

I would personally take out oath of jace i dont think its a very good card. I would replace it with Blind Obedience which is a much better card

I find Oath of Jace to be quite effective tbh. Getting to draw 3 cards then discard two is awesome since it lets me set up reanimation especially for key creatures like Brago. I might need to find a slot for Blind Obedience though. Can’t believe I forgot all about it. Thanks!

I like your list. Stax is the way to go. I have been testing Heliod's Pilgrim. It fetches Reality Acid, Darksteel Mutation, and Imprisoned in the Moon.

Kilrane bottomless_pete great suggestions guys. I could use some help cutting cards though. I think the list is already a bit tight so pointing out cards that you feel are weak links in the deck would be very helpful. Upvotes would be nice too! Lol

Personally I have never been a big fan of Sensei's Divining Top and would replace it with Soothsaying (for this deck at least). Same CMC but comes with a shuffle effect on a stick and some sweet top deck shenanigans.

As far as replacement cards go for my other suggestions you could replace various different stax cards you already have. Parallax Tide for Armageddon for example as it a targeted effect rather than a board wipe, 1 turn 8-9 exiled lands with a flicker, you exile at instant speed, and it's reusable. As a bonus they combo with Aminatou and Brago.

What are your thoughts about Miracle? Or about The Chain Veil/Teferi, Temporal Archmage combo? You have most of the package available already and with flicker you'd have quite a few more options available to you.

What about Teferi's Protection (not letting me link it for some reason) so if you Ult your commander you'd get to keep all of your sweet stuff?

Parallax Tide in place of Armageddon is perfect! Thanks! I am also not a fan of SDT in this deck and Soothesaying seems like a viable replacement.

Miracles are nice but they don’t exactly fit the current configuration of the deck which relies on stax effects a lot.

I would have added The Chain Veil and Teferi if it were not for their high cost. I am also trying to stay away from the superfriends feel that it might add to the deck since a couple of guys in my playgroup already use that theme.

As for Teferi’s Protection, it’s use seems too limited to be worth it’s slot in the deck. I would much rather have a mass flicker effect instead.

Temporal Mastery would fit pretty well but I get that it's not the most flavorful choice.

I disagree about Teferi's Protection . It protects everything from everything, even yourself for 3 CMC, and can get around Fun Police cards like Hallowed Moonlight and Containment Priest

I will put it under consideration. A lot of Aminatou users are on the fence about using it but I see why you like it. I just feel it’s too defensive-oriented for my taste but we’ll see.

I don't think Recruiter of the Guard can tutor for Brago since it's "Tutor for a creature with toughness 2 or less" and Brago's toughness is 4. Aside from that though, awesome deck!

swimtothemoon, good catch. I was somehow thinking of Imperial Recruiter. Lol. Thank you for pointing that out.

Ghostly Prison Propaganda Ensnaring Bridge some cards I feel work in stax although Bridge not so much, depends on your meta if people like to draw cards or make you draw. Deck looks awesome though, and I would never want to play against it lol.

Thanks! I would love to add those to the list but the deck, being much more offense-oriented, just doesn’t seem to have enough slots to accomodate them. Feel free to suggest possible cuts and additions and don’t forget to upvote if you think the deck deserves a bit of “street cred” which I think it still lacks. Lol

You wrote this: "Necromancy is one of the key reanimation spells in the list. Played as an instant, it can be used to reanimate to Brago and give him haste at the same time. This would allow us to flicker both Brago and Necromancy, returning both into play permanently with Necromancy bringing another creature back into play."

I do not understand how you make Brago hasted with Necromancy... the fact you play the spell with flash does not give Brago any kind of haste...

As for your choice of creatures, I think Restoration Angel is a good adding; and also if you only have room for one such creature, you should put that instead of Felidar Guardian because of the flying ability.

Megalomania says... #23

Tontolino, you are absolutely right. I was for some reason thinking of both Shallow Grave and Necromancy when I wrote that. Good catch! Thank you!

As for Felidar Guardian, I like it better since it can flicker non-creature permanents. This gives us the Aminatou - Felidar Guardian loop which is needed in our win cons. I would have included Resto Angel as well but I feel the deck has enough creature flicker effects already but we’ll see.

Hey there. Thank you for the comment on my Aminatou deck, Dare to Believe, Dare to Become.

I am going to make this comment mostly centered on your land base. Even in a deck where the curve caps at 5 (not even peaks, caps!), and even with rocks (and free ones at that), 32 lands is far too few to reliably get your land drops where it matters. Now, I’d suggest that maybe this is offset by the filtering power of this deck but I don’t exactly 100% trust in that principle when things cost mana in the first place.

Don’t get me wrong; the deck is pretty sound regarding it’s contents and the quality of said contents. However, you need potatoes to go with that meat.

The 3-tax Rishadan is honestly a win-more card if you have your engine going well enough already, and tbh the 1-tax one won’t do enough lategame. I’d swap them out for 2 lands that produce blue. Not sure how effective Cephalid Coliseum is for you but that’s probably a solid maybe. That and a Moonring Island may suffice to that end.

Anyway another consideration to take into account is that you (presently) have too many blue costs in your spells, and not enough mana sources to offset the ratio to a good degree. If you look at my deck (admittedly too budget for say an Underground Sea or even an Arid Mesa), you’ll see that everything is aligned in that color ratio pie chart that TappedOut has available. Yours has an over abundance of blue costs, or an under-abundance, so to speak, of blue mana sources. That’s mainly why I suggested those two lands above, at the cost of two blue-costing spells. It might not completely even it out, but it’s a start and I really would suggest investigating that a bit further. :)

One last note regarding the land base: if you can afford the fetches, it seems clear to me that you could really use a Scalding Tarn more than one of the ones that fetch for a Plains or Swamp without fetching the other or an Island besides. Like I said above, you tend to neeeeeeed blue sources so that’s pretty imperative compared to, say, a Bloodstained Mire.
