My base was made, then Dango took my base, then you took his xD

Someone make a deck based on this deck and I'll use that as a base so we come full circle

Yeah SynergyBuild. Your base looked really solid and resilient, I think it was a little too good not to build off of. I don't know if anyone will want to build off of this just because it's really odd having a layered combo/stax build. I'm still loving it, hoping to play with it this saturday.

Consider Narset Transcendent for value and some other walkers like Venser, the Sojourner

Hey! Sorry I haven't found my way here sooner haha. Your deck looks good! I'm glad we inspired you to make a deck around this concept we've been discussing for some time now! Like SynergyBuild said, don't be afraid to test out more walkers. We're in the process of coming out with new variations of Staxshifter lists, and I'm liking what I'm seeing with yours. Keep your metagame in mind and let us know how it goes when you put it together! I'm gonna be updating and getting my list on paper really soon too!

Here's the thing with Cruel Tutor: I don't know what to cut for it.

I'm glad you all like it! I can't wait to experiment with it and make it much much better!

Transmute is a bit costly but Muddle the Mixture is just another tutor for your lock. Not sure how well Death Cloud plays for you but it seems a bit costly theough Stasis and people can just sac their tapped stuff.

ThoAlmighty: I suppose it's decent. I'll be looking for a cut for it shortly. Thanks!

I know that the idea of this deck is to achieve exceptionally fast stasis locks. And while I think that's great, I personally get a thicc wide on over just the thought of Teferi, Hero of Dominaria & Stasis.

Obviously you'd have a lot more use for academy rector with flash, but if you wanted to certify a t2 stasis lock? You could use flash and arena rector to grab teferi far faster. Even if you only have to do this t1 and cast stasis t2, the reliability/feasibility is great. Since it's a 2 card combo that adds another card to your hand (usually interaction/tutor for next turn) and you untap mana, that means your likely first turn ends very well and can lead to some incredibly fast locks.

Just a thought.

CyborgAeon: While, yes, that allows us to achieve lock faster, we are firstly a Stax deck, and the combo is our way of closing the game. Therefore, while that combo is great, and is in the fast combo version of the list, I do not think it belongs here. I am working out the bugs on the fast combo list and it should be on the site within a couple of weeks. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey there, I'd be happy to help! Are you upgraded on the site? You'll also have to ask yeaGO to enable you to use css on the site!

Think bout putting Zur the Enchanter in the 99. He can help get most of your enchantments out when you need them. Just tutor save a tutor for him when you’re ready to start locking down the board. Another card that could be great in here is Liliana Vess . You could use her -1 to tutor every turn by blinking her with your commander.

IAmTheWraith says... #13

KayneMarco: Liliana Vess is too slow and doesn't do much outside of her -1.

Zur the Enchanter is a little too narrow for the list. He doesn't fetch all of the enchants needed for the primary combo, which makes him inherently worse in my opinion. Also, mana is really tight as is, so having time on turn 4 to play Zur doesn't sound like something that I'm going to have often. Thanks anyways!

scotchtapedsleeves I'm working on getting upgraded rn, so just hang in there!

I am really really liking this, I've tried building with Aminatou quite a few times but I've ended up scrapping it, this... looks really plausible though! Well done for a pretty nice build!

I would definitely include Enlightened Tutor and the Venser which is in your maybe board is a must imo. Also, Dovin Baan runs a similar Stax effect, I know he might not be fully tuned to the deck but if you could find a way to get him out quick he's an interesting addition

Without meme-ing too hard, Aaerys makes a reasonable point: Dovin & animatou is a cute draw engine - you can tick him down so that he's a cantrip, then flicker him with animatou & draw an additional card. Now, this is nowhere near as good as using either of the abilities on Teferi, Hero of Dominaria , but it's a cute engine that you can get going turn by turn. I also like the idea of squeezing in oath of teferi. Obviously not great in cEDH, but making it so that you can always + & - animatou every turn, or in a pinch you can flicker twice in a turn... it's so juicy. (Not to mention the silliness with teferi & tezzeret)

Aaerys

Enlightened Tutor is already in the deck. I don't think Dovin has a spot in this iteration of the deck, but for a ~75% deck it seems fine. Also Venser, the Sojourner isn't in simply because I don't have the room for him.

CyborgAeon

I agree that it's cute, but Dovin isn't that good for a deck that I believe to be very close to top tier. I think that Oath of Teferi is good, but it is a little slow for a deck that chokes for mana as is.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions!

I wholely agree, really cute. And I'm aware that oath is just not going to happen with the current list... but it's so much V A L U E!

One question. How do you protect your walkers with only 3 creatures in the deck? I see no ways to prevent attacking and no tax to attack cards.

KayneMarco

Ensnaring Bridge , tap effects like Static Orb , counterspells, Toxic Deluge etc. Its never been an issue for me to be honest, creatures swinging hasn't been much of a problem as people can usually never play creatures in the first place through my tax effects, or are too busy trying to remove my stax pieces.

How's this? You'll also be better off putting in a background picture. Try using this code!

<img src="IMAGE LINK" style="position:fixed;top:0px;left:0px;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:-1" style="background-image: url(IMAGE LINK);position:fixed;top:0px;left:0px;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:-1;" />

benjameenbear7 not really powerful enough for inclusion, mostly because of the way they are good effects stapled on a card type that is typically easy to remove.

I'm curious, as I don't get a lot of cEDH at the moment. How are you finding pox? I understand that it rips hands of those who are doing well ie have ad naus'd into a silence or some other niche circumstance, but otherwise the effect altogether hits 2(ish) lands from each player, the sacrifice creatures would be great if it were all, but it lets your opponents choose what to lose.

Maybe I'm just being nitpicky, but while it is a lot of effects strapped to one card - they're significantly more underwhelming in competitive environments (I would imagine).

I'm happy to be proven wrong, I'm just curious as to your reasoning.

IAmTheWraith says... #24

Pox is a card that performs well with the mass discard and creature hate in the deck, because it does both. It's removal that hits multiple things, gets around indestructible, and has an immediate impact on the board, as well as having the capability on effecting many turns after. Also, losing 1/3 of a life total means you have less of that resource to play with as well.

And ultimately, as a stax deck, punishing my opponent's landbase is very good, as they should be choking for mana anyways.

Hope this helps CyborgAeon!

That's quite helpful, IAmTheWraith though my followup question: how often do you need to deal with indestructible creatures? The only ones I've seen played in cEDH are Keranos, God of Storms (which rarely if ever becomes a creature), maybe Kefnet the Mindful , but I really struggle to see many other "targets"

You make a great case about its other effects, though.
