McSky23 just wanted to check - are you making the First Strike on Neheb, the Worthy work for you?

If he is on the field most of the time you should be able to double or triple block most Opponent Creatures without dying.

That can get you out of some scrapes.

Also, McSky23, how long have you been playing Magic?

I would say that this deck requires quite a bit of skill to pilot correctly.

I've been playing Standard three times a fortnight for three years.

I snapshot your notes on my phones (pathetic, but there you go).Been playing standard since Khans, but bought my first minotaur intro deck (didn't know they were duds, but quite fun once upgraded)Neheb gets killed as soon as opponents have the cards to kill it. The same for Metallic Mimic. As i have no card draw, i'm quite dead once out of gas.

But yeah, I'm looking to play an Approach of the Second Sun deck soon. That deck seems fun.

So get Supernatural Stamina in hand and don't play Neheb, the Worthy until you can keep one black open.

Use Transgress the Mind to see what the Opponent has in hand early on, remove something, and play around everything else. If it's not hitting what you need it to, replace it with Lay Bare the Heart.

Don't pile all the Minotaurs on the field at once if the decks you play against are removal heavy. Play weaker ones first and try to draw their removal out.

If you feel like you need draw, take Throne of the God-Pharaoh out and put some Painful Lesson in.

You've got to adapt decks to the meta you are playing in.

Argy,
I know you've already considered Insult / Injury but I just noticed the art and wanted to point it out.
I mean, that's some SERIOUS Minotaur-breath ...

Thanks argy, I'll see how it goes. Anyway, don't you think Succumb to Temptation is better than Painful Lesson? Since it is an instant. I guess double black is the drawback, but against control players, it's best to do it at their end turns. I guess another drawback is the two extra damage at the end.

McSky23 Problem with mtg players, is that they think there exists a deck that wins everything . Let me tell you something. The deck that argy or me, or anyone are brewing , might be garbage in a LGS and at the same time gold in another. You have to realise, that first of all, mtg is a card game. Card games, are based on possibility. In other words luck. Should you be lucky, just brew a minotaur deck with 6 lands and 54 other spells and you'll win .

Secondly, you need to learn how to play mtg. By learn, i don't mean to learn the rulings and powerwords etc. I mean, study your opponent. See his expressions. Count his cards. I would like to compare mtg with poker, but that's another thing and i know there is lots of traffic in this deck, so i don't want to promote this "type" of card game.

You will answer to me. "IDIOT, have you seen the pro-tour?!?? There are decks, that are constantly top-8" You are right, but at the pro-tours, play people that play mtg for a living. They are playtesting and learning to read their opponents. IMHO, this is the key to victory . Go and tweak minotaurs based on your lgs, to hate the decks! Go prepared for them and surprise them . No need to empty your hand and leave the opponent to play . This is and aggro deck. Aggro, is one of the hardest deck-types, cause you run out of fuel, while your opponent establishes field. Side-deck them and be patient xD

I wish you luck with your upcoming games

McSky23 Succumb to Temptation is equally as valid as Painful Lesson.

clayperce well now I feel dense. I never realised that the art on both halves of the split cards is part of one panel.

There is so much Minotaur art this time around. I kind of wish they had made them Red and White, like they have in the past. Then you could protect them better with Make a Stand.

It's an interesting point that ROUROU made. Last week I came first in a local meta that was full of decks being piloted by people who play internationally.

I just knew my deck very well, how to Side, and how to time all my plays.

I waited for my Opponent to tap out before playing cards that I really wanted to stick, etc.

I also had the advantage that they weren't expecting me to play the deck that I did.

HOWEVER, I can't say that I enjoyed the experience. Next week I'm going back to this deck.

Even if it only wins a few games, I have much more fun with it.

Argy,
No worries ... I had never noticed before today either!

Of course you could always Jund 'Em with Heroic Intervention. Because we all know how much you LURV Green [hack, cough] ...

ROUROUThanks for the advice. I don't blame this deck at all. And I know no deck can win all, and there shouldn't be any deck that wins all. I'm just at a point where tweaking a deck still isn't one of my strong suit.

MTG in my country is 80% netdeck. Found an LGS that doesn't do that at first, until the netdeckers started coming in. MTG is a considerably expensive hobby here, I think that's why people want to get as much bang for their buck by playing top 8 decks. I want to play blue, but could not justify paying close to 30 dollars apiece for Torrential Gearhulk.

As i'm not aiming to be a pro, i try to be casual by playing budget deck. I'm happy if I am able to steal a game or two. Like SBMTG's budget mono red improvise deck. Still, going 0-8 does cut off the fun a bit.

Cheers

McSky23 that's what we're here for - to help you tune.

If you do match reports we can do that more effectively. We can see what plays are causing you the most issues.

Learning to tune a deck, while often painful when you first start to do it, will teach you a valuable skill that you can hone over time.

There are other cards like Dispossess that can be added to this deck's Sideboard, that can rip all copies of Aetherworks Marvel from someone's deck, for example.

Final Reward is an over costed Oblivion Strike why don't you just sideboard that instead?

May 31, 2017 9:09 p.m.

chrclgry says... #15

The instant effect isn't even what your really want because Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger doesn't even get to attack until you cast it.

May 31, 2017 9:10 p.m.

Argy says... #16

chrclgry WRONG!!

Let me see if I can break this down so you'll understand it.

Oblivion Strike is this thing callled a "Sorcery". That means that you can only cast it during a "Main Phase".

Final Reward is something we call an "Instant". That means that you can cast it any time you like.

When playing against Blue Red Control that means that you can use Final Reward to get rid of Wandering Fumarole but you CAN'T do that with Oblivion Strike.

See, you play against a range of decks in a Magic the Gathering Tournament.

That means you have to set up a Sideboard that is versatile enough to face off against most of them.

Of course, you would realise that if you took three seconds to look at the list of decks I have under my "Sideboard Notes".

If you had taken an extra three seconds to check my "Cards Already Considered" you would see Oblivion Strike listed there.

Hope you learned something. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Argy,
The deck doesn't really need even MORE style points, but check out this seriously old-school Minotaur Life Counter!

Da-yum clayperce.

The older Magic players had access to some REALLY cool stuff.

This list is tons of fun! I am about to play this tonight at standard showdown and, while I do agree that it struggles against the tier one decks, I am sure I will be having way more fun piloting this compared to the marvel players. Nice work!

Pretty successful night. 2-0 mono blue control, 2-0 cycling/approach, and then 0-2 versus b/w zombies. Pretty sure I could have beaten the zombies if I wasn't flooded both games. Then I opened a [Liliana, the Last Hope] in my showdown pack. There was some interest in the deck so I directed them your way.

That's good to hear, Kufu

I do find it a lot of fun to play.

#1 Black Zombies is probably its worst match up.

I need to do some more work on the Sideboard for that deck.

Glad you had some fun with this, won some matches at Showdown, and cracked Lili.

BTW you need one more [ ] on either side of the card to link it.

Maybe try Reckless Bushwacker over the Zulaport Cutthroat for the ally triggers on Ondu Champion and it gives everything haste as well as +1/0.
