This is by far the most rock solid zombie build I have ever seen. I cannot even feel the need to ask why none of the U or U/X cards are here because I can tell they honestly would just slow this down.
Have a 50th upvote on me. You've earned it.
Oh, but keep an eye out for the Amonkhet cards coming out, cause anywhere that has Egyptian mummies is bound to have zombie support.

TheRedGoat ugh... my... my heart. i think i just cried a little haha
thank you, i've been working on this for a long time now and it really helps to see that you liked it. can't wait to see what the new set has planned for zombies, should be LIT!
cheers m8!

too soon to tell right now, but land draws are noticeably a lot smoother. having the cavern of souls out and knowing that Gary is going to hit is nice.
need more games of me actually drawing Liliana, the Last Hope to decide whether or not its worth keeping.
as far as sideboard is concerned, im finding it difficult to find games where i want to side in the whip, but not sure what to drop it for yet, if at all. time will tell. other than that, siding is as you would expect.

Dude, you should totally splash blue for the amazing combo of Island + Storm Crow . This combo makes everyone concede the second you get it!

@TepigAggro gotta get those memes right, that storm crow is neither foil, nor German. And that's the wrong island artwork.

You can give yourself a pseudo Thopter Sword engine by combining Diregraf Colossus and a sac outlet like Nantuko Husk with Gravecrawler. You'll net a 2/2 zombie for each black mana you have available.

So what do you think about new amonkhet cards? Hope you will stay with mono black)

Hello Everyone! Me again! I've gone ahead and cleared the comments which can only mean one thing...
So, we all know that Amonkhet just got released and with it, a few new zombies have been added to the mix. With that being said, I've gone ahead and looked through them all, including the new zombie lord, (this guy) and well... didn't add any of them.
If you guys think that I am missing something here, please feel free to go ahead and let me know, but honestly none of the added zombies really do anything that synergizes with the rest of the deck well enough to get added.
As always, much thanks from your resident Lord of the Undead -LithiumHD

I agree with your statement that the new zombos did not really add much. Some are neat (like Lord of the Accursed), but I do not think they are strict upgrades over anything you have. Dread Wanderer -might- be a better version of Diregraf Ghoul, but I have a hard time saying it is strictly better.
April 29, 2017 4:33 p.m.
Dread Wanderer is the one card that I did consider over Diregraf Ghoul. However, I came to the conclusion that the trade-off for one less toughness over the recursion ability wasn't enough to make the switch. If I am going to be spending three mana to get a one-drop back, I'd much rather utilize Lord of the Undead and get the Diregraf Colossus trigger too. I am aware that that is not always going to be an option and that just having the ability is more reliable, but I still haven't been sold on it yet. Right now, the switch is definitely possible, but not probable.

I feel like you're overlooking one of the most powerful cards in the set. (That would make Dread Wanderer worth running) and that card is Bontu the Glorified. Sure it's not a Zombie but it works with Zombie mechanics perfectly.

I feel like Nantuko Husk is more efficient if a sacrifice outlet.

So i'm fairly new to deckbuilding and have been slowly assembling a modern mono black zombies list for a while now, could you explain what the reasoning with running so many 3 ofs instead of 4's are? just personal preference or does it have some like statistical significance. It seems to me like running 4 Relentless Dead is just better but that could just be my lack of experience talking, any and all advice, tips and explanations are welcome, thanks.
April 30, 2017 4:10 p.m.
@APPLE01DOJ if its not a zombie, its not in the deck. That's just personal preference and I get that adding non-zombies would make the deck stronger overall, but that's not what I want out of this deck. thank you anyway though
@Happymaster19 not enough synergies for a sac outlet to really help that much. When Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and everything was in the list, sure. but right now, we just don't need one.
April 30, 2017 7:26 p.m.
@RedGreenTron Sure! I'd love to explain the logic behind not running a full set on most of the cards.
Basically, it boils down to just a few key points: The average CMC of the deck, the reliability/diversity of the draw, and the overall power of the card itself.
As far as the CMC is concerned, you'll notice that the only cards in the list that have a full play-set are the one-drops. Instead of running say x4 Death Baron (which wouldn't be that bad tbh) we can save on that precious CMC and afford to run less lands while maintaining a solid and reliable draw. Running only three copies of the card doesn't hurt our draw reliability too much, especially when you consider the speed at which the deck is meant to be played. We would much rather have constant flows of zombies than missing a crucial land drop losing because we couldn't get out our bigger creatures. Bigger is not always better.
The reasoning behind using only two Relentless Dead is just because the other cards are so much better, at least in my experience. to be quite honest, Relentless Dead is my least favorite zombie in the list, and constantly the most under performing card for its cost. Running any more, instead of just the two, would mean cutting some other card in its favor, and it's not worth taking that hit. Relentless Dead is not going to win us the match by itself in most cases, and so I feel that running just the two is fine, if only just because we need more 2 drop zombies.
(also before anyone suggests it, even though i trash this card all the time, i don't feel like replacing it for something like Dread Wanderer would necessarily be better for the deck, especially since there are realistically only the two copies available to be switched around)

have you tried using a Lord of the Accursed over endless ranks of the dead? it helps you not get an enchantment stranded in hand when you'd rather play a lord
also, the second ability is probably capable of winning games, if you have no other way of giving menace.
April 30, 2017 8:04 p.m.
I second the lord at least over the enchantments. And A sac outlet turns Diregraf Colossus and Gravecrawler into a pseudo Thopter Sword combo. Not that the deck needs it but Gray Merchant and Geralf's Messenger show a weak devotion focus. I would try being decisive in your direction and streamline your numbers.
April 30, 2017 8:25 p.m.
Plague Belcher. Seriously fun synergy with guys like Geralf's Messenger. (Strips the +1 counter! Bounce him a third+ time!) Also, just a plain old 5/4 face smasher with Menace.
