I Simply haven't updated it, but have been using it since release... Doesn't make the deck instant outdated by not including a card from the maybe board though xD small pp comment, @abierto...
Derevi is also heavily Meta dependant so maybe try and look beyond a simple mindset like that ;)
magistrate is bonkers indeed though @0rc, what are you mainly using it for?

Kiyomei, I use Drannith Magistrate to prevent my opponents from casting their commanders from the command zone, which is crippling in its own right, however, my strategy is far different from yours and less competitive so it may not be as appropriate for your stax strategy (my deck is on my profile). Late game, it also prevents commanders from casting spells from zones outside of the hand zone. As such, it stops Urza, Kess, and Muldrotha type strategies that hope to cast their win conditions from exile, graveyard, or wherever. It’s easy to pod into with Llanowar Elves-type dorks and completely shuts down many of the most competitive strategies, which tend to be commander driven. It also pods into Eternal Witness and Faeburrow Elder. It’s a real asshole in cEDH. I play it in Brago as well.

@0rc As you mentioned it does serious work versus decks that solely revolve around their commander, think Yisan, Selvala, Najeela, the ones you mentioned and many many more suffer from it's presence... All that while putting a big Target on it and eating plenty of removal giving you more time and freedom to do other things...
Invalidating Flash-Hulk and Doomsday style combo's with such low mana cost is also really valuable and the threat of ChordOC or yisan spewing it out at instant speed is a niche counter trick too ^^.
As you said it's accessibility in this deck is super easily achieved with all the creature tutors like pod and such!!! Making this card a very good addition to the deck regardless of Meta... I'll update the list sooner or later... Busy with other things RN and haven't got time to keep the list up to date as I test a lot online now ^^...

Kiyomei, I’m glad you like the card. It’s a workhorse. Note that I was merely defending your deck’s lack of inclusion. Your taxation plan is generally disruptive to all spells played by opponents irregardless of their zone of origin.
Yes, I agree that it may disrupt flashback spells that often enable Breakfast Hulk and Doomsday style combos.
All respect to the #1 Derevi deck.

Kiyomei, you also may way look into into the validity of using the Magistrate as a counter via CoC or Yisan, as you’ve described. It may be that because the opponents cast spell is already on the stack, it’s already cast and can’t be thwarted in such a way. The same issue arose often when Teferi Mage of Zhalfir was first introduced (albeit the language on his card is different). I hope this helps.
September 26, 2020 3:01 p.m.
I know, you just need to time it right whenever you get priority ofc and before certain points in the specific combo where you can be the most disruptive and still stop them with it...

Updated it finally to my current Version that I own and Ordered me a Archon of Emeria!!!
-
I'm probably going to take Loyal Retainers out for Archon of Emeria once it arrives, Since I've been going less and less for retainers during "yisan" anyway and since I'm not on the "Jin-retainer" anymore I feel like it's time for him to retire for a while... Especially with the power the new Archon brings!!!
-
As for Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy I'm not so sure yet. You can always let me know if you find something exciting! (I mean it can be explosive but I'm just not 100% sure if it's worth it due to lack of testing on my part)
(PS: I went to check that dead website Moxsomething and holy moley, I knew it was going to die from the start but I didn't expect it to be so badly designed compared to this and completely deserted xD)

Hi, in love with the deck. I've been a Derevi player since day 1 and this by far is the best and neat deck I've ever seen.
Just one thing I want to ask, have you considered some cards from the recent set Commander Legends?
November 29, 2020 6:23 a.m.
Interesting finds : Kaldheim : and maybe usable to an extent?
(The new art border is not too shabby on some of these cards but nothing really "wow" factor to me...)
Been way to inactive due to reasons... Playtesting has been limited to online sites/cam games :'(
-
Toski, Bearer of Secrets : Interesting card draw that sticks quiet well, although at a cost of This still might prove to gain a lot of value during to course of a game.
-
Reidane, God of the Worthy Flip / Valkmira, Protector's Shield : Most likely too slow for faster meta but seems usable in late game shenanigans (dunno how these flip yet :s )

@ RIN90
Sorry for the late reply...
Cards that come to mind from Commander Legends that could be used/useful depending on your meta i can think of :

Nice list! I am going to have to save this one off to the side for some hints for my Derevi list
I know it has been about 2 years since the last update, but you definitely should update the list, New Capenna gave some goodies to use. I went more of a blink control sort of list, it still does stax to an extent.
Mana Vault is really good ramp in derevi. Displacer Kitten was also a nice recent addition.
I'm not sure what your meta is like, it may be good to add in a few more win conditions to help push the game over, I took apart a Hokori stax list that honestly would only stall the game out until my opponents could cope with the taxes and everything and blow me out of the game. When it did win it was honestly just a drag for everyone, myself included. The Derevi list I have was sort of an followup to the list and I went more of a tempo route with it over time as it ran into the same issues as the Hokori list. People seem to frown on big finishers in competitive formats, depending on the build, they definitely can have a place and I tend to include at least a few in my edh lists for some top end begin to finish the game. (I have a cEDH Urza list that seriously runs eldrazi in it and has a high win percentage, even against expensive turbo decks).
Here's my Derevi list if at the very least it can help give you some hints for some new adds for your list, I appreciate advice on it, the list still needs some tweaks before I'm happy with the strength of the list. Birb Goes Brrrrrrrrrrrr

Thank you! (I got a sideboard as well if you're interested = 京 An illusion? (SideBoard) 京 = bit outdated but still handy...)
I know I haven't been most active on here anymore and haven't updated it at all indeed. Been playing her a lot though but have had a small dip in activity due to shops closing, and going broke but never stopped playing her since she came out... + just been playing her online... Won over hundreds of Commander events/leagues with her easily...
I'd like to keep the list as Cutthroat and Competitive as possible and not toy around with strategies that don't really compare like random blink, wizard-shell, etc...
Flashy wins are redundant for Derevi, and if you are consistently leaving gaps and misplaying you'll get blown out pretty fast. this primer still holds up to this day with minor tweaks that could increase its power a bit...
If the power of your meta is lacking though and not everyone is playing cEDH lists and BIS/META decks you'll need to adjust some cards and add more specific hate... No Tournament or League is the same if you have even the slightest info on what is going to show up or what is currently relevant. Going in blind this list still holds up perfectly fine though.
Cards that have been released and have been in and out of the list or are still in if you're interested:
The strategy you might be interested in is flickering Derevi, Empyrial Tactician with Emiel the Blessed to untap Circle of Dreams Druid or Gaea's Cradle and generate infinite mana for Finale of Devastation.

@Kiyomei: fair, fair. Results are hard to argue with, I do not at all doubt the power level. If the tempo deck I've got going isn't able to get to where I want it to, I will change the list over something close to this.
Do you feel you're running enough counter magic? How well do you do against the usual turbo/farm decks that run Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation?
August 20, 2022 7:15 p.m.
Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation / Tainted Pact are rough Powerhouses that are specifically made to slip through Stax due to their efficient cost and are relatively easy to assemble... Sadly the speed of these can be vastly greater than ours at times.
Good options vs this sort of gameplan if it's prevalent :
-
Angel's Grace (hard to interact with)
-
Nimble Obstructionist (hard to interact with)
-
Rule of Law effects or Plain Counters from you or your other Opponents.

Hey big guy, good to see you back.
Big fan of the deck! I've been piloting a similar Derevi list inspired by yours for the past three years, and while it trades blows with the best of them I'm finding it struggles to "win". In saying this, most attempts to close games quicker using some irrelevant win-con only seem to negatively affect Derevi's efficiency.
I unfortunately do not have the $1.5k AUD for a Gaea's Cradle and have been utilising a mixture of Circle of Dreams Druid, Nykthos and cards like Pemmins Aura with Bloom Tender/Faeburrow Elder. But Cradle being a land with cards like Crop Rotation just has unrivaled capacity.
Most of my wins have come from putting the table under Stasis and Utilising Elesh/Faeburrow and giving my board psuedo vigilance with Reconnaissance.
I'm wondering how you feel about the synergy of Devoted Druid and Swift Reconfiguration to make infinite green to sink into Emiel to tap down the table at instant speed by flickering Derevi, or throwing it into Finale of Devastation? Both cards seem relevant on their own, Druid being a useful dork and Swift being an instant speed way of potentially dealing with something like Winota.
Keen to read your thoughts.

Yo yo @ProminenceToBlack
The strategy you are referring to: flickering Derevi, Empyrial Tactician with Emiel the Blessed to untap Circle of Dreams Druid or Gaea's Cradle and generate infinite mana for Finale of Devastation...
It Is a very valid wincon that you can push fairly early or later on in the game as it's fairly easy to set up and can go off under most of our Stax or when a lot of resources from the table have already been expended to deal with you...
Now Devoted Druid and Swift Reconfiguration may seem interesting due to it being unaffected by summoning sickness. It does however not interact well with all our artifact hate like Collector Ouphe... While sure it works the same paired with a Finale of Devastation, I feel like it clutters the deck more with cards that aren't great on their own... Same could be said of Emiel though... Although the Unicorn can protect our stuff from time to time... But I'm pretty sure it could work given the fact we can tutor for both pieces fairly fast and easily.
Hokori, winter orb, static orb or stasis locks are The way ^^... <3

Thanks for taking the time to reply friend.
I think you are right. Piecing together a combo like this just seems more and more like it would end up being a hinderance on the game plan at the end of the day, and at the cost of cards that are more individually impactful.
Any recommendations from the newer sets?
August 25, 2022 12:45 a.m.
Hey, To get back at your Addition from newer sets, there haven't been any great cEDH hate cards lately :'( Cards from Dominaria United that come to mind are not too great either and very specific.
Karn's Sylex : Disk but you need to put mana into it and is way too narrow...
Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant : Perhaps if you face a load of Edric turns or extra turn effect decks in your meta.
Shanna, Purifying Blade : A worse version of Tymna for bant as you need to spend mana on it... but it could be a decent drawing tool.
Other than that;
Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant is funny with rule of law effects.
Now for,
Anointed Peacekeeper ( Pithing Needle )
These cards are way too narrow in a cEDH meta stopping only one of your opponents isn't going to make the cut for me. They are generally great 1v1 cards but don't fit a multiplayer setting.

Hi Kiyomei. Is this deck still being updated? Any interesting cards in phyrexia all will be one?
February 11, 2023 2:06 a.m.
Yes, it is. In the past few sets, nothing quite worthwhile was released Stax-wise though. the new Elesh is definitely interesting, but updates will happen when something that is a must for the list gets printed. Right now the Elesh is a solid flex pick. And the Jailer is okay in foodchain-heavy meta but that's about it
the list is currently what I have in place now but cards do go in and out for testing all the time.
Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines
The green sun is a card that's interesting too.

abierto, as a seasoned Derevi pilot I can assure you that This decklist is still perfectly viable. I understand the author’s hesitation in adding Drannith Magistrate: 1) what could one possibly remove that doesn’t harm the combo engine? 2) why add more direct hate when the stax is already sufficiently crippling? I personally play the magistrate in my own very-current Derevi deck, but frankly, this decklist is far more competitive than mine is even without it. This decklist would crush. No disrespect—-just reason.
