I made this list because I love Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit and I really wanted to use her in modern, plus I already have experience with mono-white from standard. I also wanted a semi-competitive deck because my current modern deck is, well, terrible.
Creature Choices:
Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit: Great, underrated card. Especially for white weenie decks. Turns my savannah lions into
Balduvian Barbarians
.
Kazandu Blademaster: A bear with first strike and vigilance is fine on it's own. But add in the fact that it's great in multiples and you've got a keeper.
Expedition Envoy
: I originally had Soldier of the Pantheon in this slot. But I was only playing it as a savannah lion, and that's when I realized that
Expedition Envoy
gave me additional value out of Kazandu Blademaster.
Precinct Captain: Basically forces them to chump block on turn three or let me get an additional 1/1. It also has great synergy with Silverblade Paladin. I play it as a 3-of because it draws removal and blocks. I'm considering dropping these for either Knight of the White Orchids or
Accorder Paladin
s.
Kytheon, Hero of Akros
: A 2/1 that draws removal away from other creatures. Thanks for the suggestion OlivierB.
Frontline Medic: Not only a 3/3 for three - already good value - it makes your attackers indestructible and counters your opponent's Sphinx's Revelation and Rakdos's Return.
Silverblade Paladin: A 2/2 with double strike that gives one of your other creatures double strike acts as a great finisher move.
Champion of the Parish: Usually gets a 1/1 counter every turn. Gets big fast, and prevents your opponent from getting mana advantage from Path to Exile or Lightning Bolt.
Blade Splicer: 4 points of power and toughness for 3? Yes please.
Restoration Angel: A 4/3 flier with flash is good, but the fact that it interacts so well with Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, Blade Splicer or Expedition Envoy
+
Kazandu Blademaster
puts it over the top. I play it as a one of because hitting four land drops with 20 lands can be a bit iffy.
Noncreature Choices:
Honor of the Pure: This card is insane. Do I really need to explain why?
Brave the Elements: Protects all my creatures from removal, which is one of this deck's biggest weaknesses.
Journey to Nowhere: Because I can't afford Path to Exile.
Ghost Quarter: This is really just me cheating on my sideboard. It has some good matchups, and some where it's just dead, but having a few won't hurt me in bad matchups and will help me in good ones without cutting into my sideboard.
18x Plains: 18 plains. 18. Do I really need more of a reason to play a deck?
Suggestions, feedback and +1s appreciated.
