The only thing that could potentially be a problem is Anafenza keeping your creatures from triggering on death.

I had an issue going against someone who had Anafenza on the battlefield and all of my creatures "when this dies" wouldn't trigger.

But other than that I really like who this deck looks.

Ana only triggers your opponents creatures.

DOH! I always forget that.

I am hoping that my opponents forget that too, though doubtful lol.

can you even activate Void Attendant with Anafenza in play? remember: Anafenza is a substitute effect, so when you would want to put a creature from opponent exile into his graveyard, it would be exiled again instead.

Also: what do you do vs. decks that barely have creatures?

Ana's second ability is a replacement effect. It does nothing to prevent a creature from being able to be placed in a gy. It simply replaces the card's destination and it becomes a new object in exile.

If a deck barely has creatures (such as a control build) i would side in gideon, transgresses, displays, or crux/aligned hedron network to deal with the fat the opponent is saving up for. Then i just process what i can. Against a creatureless deck, the stranglers would go first, followed by the stasis field, then finally a void attendant or two. And i process what i can. I have other ways built in to generate tokens for massive presence and altar triggers.

This is pretty well thought out, love the idea. Surprised everyone and their uncle isn't screaming Siege Rhino though. Lol. +1.

I considered the rhino but there just isn't room for him without diluting the overall strategy. Save the rhinos for an abzan aggro build..lol.

Smothering Abomination cannot sac at instant speed. Also, Abzan Ascendancy is almost an overkill, as if you have a ton of tokens out, you really don't need to put counters on them. I would suggest 2 Bane of Bala Ged or 2 Blight Herder in it's place. Also, add in some more removal in the place of a single Carrier Thrall

StUrzasBeard says... #10

Smothering Abomination cannot. You are correct, but the draw triggers off of any sacrifice.

That bane does look enticing. The herder also might fit the overall theme better.

I will give the both of them a go.Thanks!

Could always throw in a Nantuko Husk as a sac outlet, would save against a languish as well.

He could fit the Wasteland Strangler mana slot pretty easily, but then i would be shorting myself removal. What else instead? Also, I am running 8 removal already in some form or another. Is that not enough?

Evolutionary Leap would be cool to see in the deck. I don't think you need the Secure the Wastes or, as aforemention, Abzan Ascendancy, and it would be a way to scale up to Anafenza, Void Attendant, Smothering Abomination, Wasteland Strangler, you name it, for the cost of a token or Blisterpod. You would also be able to do so at instant speed, so to use up unused green mana or as a combat trick, it would work.

Bane of Bala Ged didn't really work out. He doesn't really have any way of protecting himself and I would prefer not to mainboard Valorous Stance while waiting for 9 mana sources to bail him out before I get to use him. I will work with the blight herder next.

I like the suggestions of Nantuko Husk and Evolutionary Leap.

Cheap and effective cards for your strategy. If you're worried about card draw use Altar's Reap. Smothering Abomination is slower and more situational, hurting you all together.

Also consider From Beyond for consistent token generation and the ability to grab a colorless creature of your choosing.

If you got rid of the Abomination and put in some of the cards I mentioned you'd also lower your overall curve (which 24 lands is too many already in my honest opinion). You could make the deck faster and more aggressive, cut lands, and put in more spells potentially, like those Altar's Reap or use hand removal like Despise to put creatures in their graveyard (exile with Ana on board) or Bone Splinters.

Great deck though! Love the idea! Wish it was the capacity go to infinite. I do love a good infinite combo.

Yea. Repeatable was the closest i could get.My argument for the abom though. If this were an aristocrats list Grim Haruspex would be my pick for his purpose. But...then again grimmy doesnt have a 4 power, doesnt trigger off of tokens, and he doesnt fly. Smothering abomination tends to help close games or at the very least stop a dragon in its tracks while he digs for another answer.

Smother isnt really that slow. He can come out by turn 3 (just as fast as ana) but turn 4 or 5 is adequate just as my hand is begining to empty out.

The land amount is where it is because i am running 3 colors and dont want to spend a mint on mana base. As i obtain Canopy Vistas, i intend to reconfigure. Also 2 of those lands provide mana in the short game and force an opponent to sac a critter in the long game (nearly unstoppably). I can ditch them for a sideboard card should i be up against a deck that pretty much negates them (such as another token shell).

From beyond was in the original version. I didnt like it. It doesnt do anything until t5. I replaced it with ascendancy because its more efficient, it has an immediate effect even if it gets removed, and it pumps out more tokens when my critters die. Ive won games by following up a secure the wastes with one essentially doubling the damage output.

Altar's reap is card neutral, i've considered it and found that between smother and charm ive got enough.

The nantuko and evolutionary leap suggestions are okay. Nan might find itself replacing 1 of the stranglers and 1 of the voids if playtesting pans out. Wont happen this week though. Ive already built the list. And will be tuning to the local meta of the month.

I bet it could go infinite in modern format exchanging a few cards, but i am not sure if it could go toe to toe. It'd be a hell of a rogue though if it did!

Thanks for the feedback!

Deck looks pretty sweet. I've been trying to splash white on GB Aristocrats, and this idea is awesome. How would your deck change if you get a playset of Canopy Vistas?

Sorry for the double comment, but what do you think of Shambling Vent here?

November 27, 2015 12:43 a.m.

StUrzasBeard says... #19

Shambling Vent is a bit mana-intensive when I am dumping as much as I can into token generation. I really like that land in an awaken-themed deck. If I need to recoup lost life points I would rather rely on the tombs. They don't get spot-removed in response to activating them leaving me down a mana-source. If I had a playset of Vistas I would probably ditch the pain lands and add more swamps. Those have actually been quite an Achilles' Heel. I originally hoped to rely on them early game only but I just have too many in the build. The mana-balance I've already developed is so damn delicate.

@afteralter, No problem on the DP bro, I do it too. I would really like to see this site allow editing at some point. I say a lot of dumb shit, especially when I forget to proof-read. Thanks for the feedback!

Despite hating abzan with a passion i do applaud you for making an abzan deck and actually being a good deckbuilder and not throwing 4x Siege Rhino into the deck and calling it good

Maybe more FNMs to really get the feel for this deck? I still think it's pretty awesome. Have you considered Altar's Reap for the draw power and something to kill your pods and thralls?

December 15, 2015 6:22 a.m.

StUrzasBeard says... #25

I might consider altars reap. Evolutionary leap might be a better choice. I havent decided what to take out for either yet.I am actually removing the thralls and stranglers for 3 zulaport cutthroats and 3 natuko husks. What do ya think?
