Maybe Knight of the White Orchid could solve the mana problem? You are heavy on white mana, he's a human, he can get you green mana (Canopy Vista) and first strike is great with pump effects like Always Watching as well as other first striking creatures like Thalia, since in combination they can hold off even big attackers like Reality Smasher.
I just took a look at your sideboard and noticed that you play Long Road Home in basically the role that similar decks use Evolutionary Leap for. I haven't played with Long Road Home yet, so i can't compare them well, but you should probably keep Evolutionary Leap in mind as an alternative. It has the upside of allowing you a controlled flip of Archangel Avacyn  Flip and it can dig for Bruna, the Fading Light in a really drawn out game.
Also, Aerial Volley has the potential to be a fantastic tool against Spirits, should that become a real contender in Standard.

Emzed i completely forgot about evo leap!

My reasoning for using long road home is that i get to save the creature i want, if it's a bruna or avacyn or gisela about to get removed i don't really want to be saccing them to get a worse card in hand that then needs more mana to cast. I think for that reason i still prefer it over evo leap.

Aerial volley has already been brought to my attention and if spirits does become as popular as it seems like it's going to be, it'll find a home in the sidedeck pretty quickly.

Personally, i'm not a big fan of knight in anything other than mono white or white with a light splash. It is good when your on the draw as you can reliably get a land from it, but i don't want to run a double coloured 2 drop.

Thanks again for taking time to help with the deck, i think it's now 50% my original deck and 50% from everyone's suggestions. All the different points of view really help craft a better deck.

Checked the latest results on the Standard Open Starcitygames. Looks like Spirits are the deck to beat. Personally, I'm glad cuz I thought G/W tokens was one of the most boring decks to beat in awhile. But any how I'd anticipate a lot of copying and paste Spirit decks coming up. May your SB be smart and good! (and may your Avacyn's kick ass)

Sry, got a bit ahead of myself. Granted the Open is still on but Spirits looks strong. Of course, CoCo is still here which likely means Spirits any how. ...ok, I'm going to stop using the word 'spirit' in this discussion.

This deck is sweet. It really takes advantage of a lot of great value cards Like Thalia, Gisela, and Avacyn. And with so many great legendary's it makes the Lancers search ability really useful. I own a few Giselas, so I think I'm gonna make a similar deck (but without the Avacyn sadly because I cant afford her) and maybe even run Tamiyo with Oath of Nissa. I'd been searching for a good use for her without having to make a three color deck, and I think Oath of Nissa might just be the way to do that. Thanks for the Inspiration!

samofpieland Glad my deck gives you some inspiration, running tamiyo with oath of Nissa can certainly catch people off guard, it's a little risky for me personally but if you can make it work for you that's great! I suppose if your going down that route you could consider adding other planeswalkers to your sideboard as answers to specific decks. Good luck with your deck, i'd love to see it when it's done.

How do you think the deck is going to do against some of the meta decks that we saw in SCG Columbus yesterday? (i.e Bant Company, U/W Spirits, etc)

JakeS i haven't had a chance to have a look at the SCG yet, but as mentioned earlier i am going to add Aerial Volley to the sideboard for spirits, and hopefully Long Road Home provides me protection from Reflector Mage, but i'll know more when i get to try the deck out more. i do have a spirits company deck as a back-up in case this one doesn't perform well (i hope it does, i do love me some angels).

One of the take aways from the SCG Open was that Spell Queller is likely format defining, meaning that cards that cost 3-4 mana at sorcery speed are very poorly positioned. Gisela, the Broken Blade and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar suffered from that development, whereas Archangel Avacyn  Flip looked solid, especially in combination with Selfless Spirit.

Emzed Avacyn and selfless spirit together is great, a one sided Anger of the Gods, i'm guessing spirits/company with avacyn as the top of the curve will be the deck to beat.

Bant CoCo is undoubtedly a rock solid deck in Standard. But I think other decks can muster up enough to take it out. Or give it hell.

It reminds me when experienced players said G/W tokens was the best. And it looked about right. But it was too slow and Humans made a come back and put it in check.

What happened to Red? That color exists so these tempo/value strategies get put in check. Wizards has lost it's way.

Refreshing update! I'm happy you are experiencing success at a high level. Sorry about the Bruna news. It's such an awesome meld. But yeah, it's so slow and clunky even.

I don't know about you but it feels so good having a 4/4 pacifist for mana symbol 1mana symbol g!

The deck looks solid +1

Have you given thought to Repel the Abominable in the side?

How about Selfless Spirit in the main to be able to trigger the flip from Avacyn at your leisure or gain an advantage when trading in combat?

What about some kind of board wipe option like Tragic Arrogance?

I would also maybe look at running 2x of Declaration in Stone in the main since right now you have no way to bounce creatures or remove them beyond Dromoka's Command. Depending on the enters the battlefield tapped from Thalia would be a mistake imo.

Noctem i like the selfless spirit + avacyn option. I was going to cut a Gisela, the Broken Blade as drawing multiples is a problem, and take out a copy of gideon to make room for 2 selfless spirit main board.

In most matchups, dromoka's command provides enough removal, and i don't want to remove any creatures for the first game, so the declarations will stay in the sideboard, if the meta changes and more maindeck removal improves my chances, i'll definitely add in declaration.

I like the stabilisation Tragic Arrogance offers so i'll find space in the sideboard for it, probably for a declaration and a long road home.

Repel the Abominable doesn't interest me even as a sideboard addition, between Gisela's lifelink and linvala, i can survive long enough to kill opponents, and with the addition of selfless spirit to go alongside avacyn's invincibility trigger as well as bruna's re-animation, my creatures will either not die, or i can get my best creature back thanks to bruna.

thanks for your suggestions!

Well if you decide to add in Selfless Spirit then I would recommend Planar Outburst instead of Tragic Arrogance since you can protect your side of the field with that and Archangel Avacyn  Flip though the latter would require 10 mana.

Cheers!

I think i still prefer tragic arrogance as it can take out planeswalkers too. Plus Avacyn's flip is practically a planar outburst with the low average toughness for the current meta.

Great deck, Love your idea, i have built something similar more along the flavor base of sigarda and the humans against the other angels etc, but still love the deck, one possible suggestion would be for your sideboard against Coco which is going to be a very strong and prominent deck. Hallowed Moonlight great card against coco and tokens, is cheap, pays itself back in value so much and ruins a coco players day when they go to coco and nope u dont. id suggest looking at it and it also works against flip planeswalkers from origins like jace or kytheon.

Emzed says... #20

Hallowed Moonlight hits Collected Company and Secure the Wastes because here creatures try to enter the battlefield, but Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip flips into the planeswalker Jace, Telepath Unbound  Flip, which isn't affected since it's no longer a creature.

monkeyprophet says... #21

I like the sound of Hallowed Moonlight and i'll test it out in the sideboard, between this and Dragonlord Dromoka, I can cut off CoCo's advantages.

Alex.moellmer says... #22

also as much as i don't think you will see it often, Hallowed Moonlight i do believe hits meld cards as well? as they get exiled then returned to the battlefield melded, so a creature is entering the battlefield that isn't being cast. which is a good way to stop Brusela.

Alex.moellmer says... #23

Upon further thought, Hallowed Moonlight helps against, meld, tokens, coco and zombies.... solid card, not too mention it still draws u a card haha.

August 3, 2016 4:31 a.m.

Noctem says... #24

Agreed, Hallowed Moonlight is a multi purpose tool in the current meta.

I just wish Westvale Abbey  Flip didn't transform then i'd cut the Clip Wings in a heart beat. As it is i think i might cut the Aerial Assault for Hallowed Moonlight as it has wider utility, plus the fact that it doesn't leave you down a card is awesome.
