My first big competitive event, and the deck did great. I went 4-2-1, coming in 20/85. I lost round one to Sultai Whip. Whip of Erebos seems to be the single best card against the deck. I only lost two games where my opponent didn't play whip--one of them I made a hilariously bad misplay, the other I was stuck on 2 land until turn 6 or 7 and STILL nearly took the match.
I played an inordinate number of Abzan decks, and I think it's a great matchup for the deck. I personally had basically no practice against it, but the deck did its thing for the most part. Savage Knuckleblade is #1 card USA against Abzan control. Kiora, the Crashing Wave
was a champ, especially against Temur aggro with Frost Walker. I pretty much never regretted dropping Hornet Nest onto the board; it won me many games--even against Abzan control--by clogging up the ground and the air. Keranos, God of Storms earned his mainboard slot by demolishing several control players. Xenagos, the Reveler is a great pairing with Dragonlord Atarka.
Courser of Kruphix has maybe never been in better company, with so many cards manipulating the top of my deck. I Reality Shifted my Sylvan Caryatid into a Polukranos, World Eater I saw on top; I used Kiora, the Crashing Wave in conjunction with two Coursers to pull 2 land off the top, taking me out of lethal range and winning the match; I pulled land out of the way so Keranos, God of Storms could get his bolt damage; I played Sarkhan Unbroken to pull a Roast off the top to kill a problematic Siege Rhino; I fetched away countless cards to play additional land off the top and keep the card advantage coming. The card advantage engines were incredible. I think I'm going to stick with this deck and see how well it does in the new meta.
