Angus Supercontrol

Commander / EDH*

willard117

This deck is very much a work in progress, and suggestions are very welcome.

THE GAME PLAN

Keep my opponents at bay with counters, removal, board wipes, and the many stax effects on creatures. The end game is to either get the board locked down or just beat face with big dumb creatures.

THE LOCKS

There are a ton of soft locks in the form of stax effects, but the most potent hard lock is Stoic Angel combined with cards like Thalia, Blind Obedience, and Loxodon Gatekeeper. There is also of course Angus himself combined with Seedborn Muse so nobody can ever deal combat damage.

LOOK AT ALL THIS SYNERGY

I love Eldrazi Displacer in this deck. There are so many cards that he makes so much more dangerous. Gilded Drake, any of the ramp creatures, Reclamation Sage, Eternal Witness, and literally any creature if I have Aura Shards out.

Defense of the Heart is another great card. Depending on the board state you aren't going to win outright when it triggers, but grabbing Avacyn and Archetype of Endurance to give all your creatures hexproof and indestructible is pretty nice.

WEAK CARDS/STRATEGIES

There are a few things the deck seems to need more of. There are a lot of high drop creatures, but possibly not enough mana ramp. Also, probably not enough card draw. Maybe not enough spot removal. Maybe not enough good cards. Maybe I'm bad at magic. Maybe I'm really tired and slightly drunk.

Humility is a great card, but if one of my opponents is playing tokens I could end up helping them out. And also my creatures cost a lot and are mainly utility, so Humility shuts them off. I'm really just banking on Humility hurting my opponents more than it hurts me.

Land Tax is another amazing card, but it is a dead draw late in the game and even if I can get it to trigger I will only be able to get maybe 3 useful triggers off of it because of the lack of basic lands, but searching for 9 basic lands from a 1 mana enchantment is good enough value for me.

Eldrazi Displacer was in the list of great cards, but I also think it belongs here because sometimes it may be hard to get the colorless mana to trigger it's ability. I think it is worth the risk though.
