SynergyBuild - Thanks for the detailed answer, couldn't agree more!

Still working on fixing the land base - haven't had the time to put in some trades.

Thanks toffmcsoft, would've been embarassing if you were like "Oh, I had no idea those cards existed, they should be put in right now!"

I would have felt so god-damn stupid.

A turn 3 kill in commander? BOOOOOOO! Wheres the shenanigans? You dont have time for them. Its a good deck, sure. But that is what loses it points in my book. Comp decks are no fun ;-;

Nillstan, your comment is like walking into a Starbucks and shouting, "I hate coffee!"

Nillstan - Don't get me wrong, I love casual play and have an Animar build that's Animorphs. This deck is specific for competitive EDH.

toffmcsoft

Didnt say it was bad or anything of that nature, it just loses major brownie points from me for lack of shenanigans

Driemer84, your comment made my day, thanks, I am going to have to use that somewhere, mind if I steal it?

Nillstan, you know, this list is quite different to many lists, with kiki-combo over cloudstone and the like, and it runs quite a few shenanigans, yet is competitive nonetheless.

SynergyBuild lol go ahead. I don't mean to stir anything up or attack anyone, I just thought it didn't contribute much to the discussion of this deck.

Speaking of disucssion, have you found a spot for Spellseeker, toffmcsoft?

What are your thoughts on this deck but with a more budget land base?? Also, i doubt it, but would doubling season even be worth considering to run? I am building Animar and i want him to be the best i can make him. But i also am not made of cash. So any other budget options besides the mana base.(im 99% sure i can afford the rest of the deck

Fofer check out this Animar page by JMCraig. In his description he gives a couple of budget options. The duals perfect the manabase, but a deck can definitely run well without them.

Doubling Season is too expensive. We aren't taking advantage of tokens and Hardened Scales provides the effect we want out of Doubling Season on turn one, before Animar comes down.

This is prob what you want: Ancestral Animar: Mid-Budget

It's almost identical to my list, minus a few ~$500 cards. Fell free to stop by the main page and discuss deckbuilding options too!

How do you guys feel about the BBD dual lands? I know we really only have Spire Garden now, but say we get enemy colors, do we run it over Yavimaya Coast?

SynergyBuild says... #17

Nah, the life loss is negligible for pain lands, and since the 2+ opponents lands don't work in 1v1 or when two opponents are dead, it becomes a kind of Timber Gorge. We don't need more duals, and the landbase is pretty sweet as is.

I disagree I think the battlebond lands are amazing. cEDH is always at least 4 players, and if you're winning between turn 3 and 9 they will 99% of the time come into play untapped

Palinchron is a combo piece all by itself for endless mana, but if you pair it with Purphoros, God of the Forge you get endless damage and with Animar out, he gets endlessly large, not that you need it. with Purphoros, God of the Forge on the board, you cast Palinchron , you deal 2 damage, you then bounce it back to your hand with it's ability and recast it, untapping 7 lands and so you net 2 mana every time and you do endless damage to everyone. I'm not sure if you need a haste enabler for Palinchron for it to be able to use it's ability right away, if not, this works, but if you need one just have Swiftfoot Boots or Lightning Greaves on the field as well.

Have you considered Spellseeker ? Looks up Glimpse of Nature, Cyclonic Rift, etc. It'd also complete your 'recruiter' trifecta with you already running Imperial Recruiter and Fierce Empath.

A few other good targets for Spellseeker to consider running include Crop Rotation for Gaea's Cradle #2 and Weird Harvest for a Ancestral Statue + either Purphoros or Walking Ballista combo win with as little as 4 mana.

Hi, I must thank you for the inspiration on this deck. I've been building my Animar for a while myself and it has been a pleasure to use your suggestions to ramp the power level. One thing I'm having trouble with is getting past chump blocks on Animar without trample and also protecting him while he's out. With that said I'd like to get your take on a few things so I can better understand how to pilot this beast.

Have you considered adding in some trample options? Possible Elvish Herder or Rhonas the Indomitable ?

What's your view on balancing getting Animar out quickly vs putting some type of protection out for him? What's the first protection card you go for or do you just go all Animar ramp and then just hope for protection from creatures you're ramping with?

Board wipes. Is there any answer to this?
