Commander: Animar, Soul of Elements

Behold! My latest EDH creation! This isn't your every-day Animar, RUG combo deck. Oh no, this is much bigger than that...literally! This is my take on an Animar, Soul of Elements commander deck. Rather than just playing big ass creatures with Animar's ability, I decided to focus more on the enabler of that ability; +1/+1 counters. So with the power of Graft, Evolve, and a small bit of Proliferate, this deck makes use of some awesome utility creatures that benefit from having counters on or around them, through means of card draw, mana ramp, damage, well you get the picture. Some "Prime" examples of this are: Prime Speaker Zegana (see what I did there???), Champion of Lambholt, Fathom Mage, Goblin Razerunners , and Gyre Sage. But they only scratch the surface. Pretty much all of the creatures in the deck (44 in total), can do something helpful with use of counters or by making more counters. A few powerhouses in the counter creating department include Scute Mob during the late game, Renegade Krasis, Rubblebelt Raiders , Fangren Firstborn , and Vigor . These guys and some of their friends can really put some more power on the board very quickly. Although this deck is very creature heavy, there are a lot of really good non-creature cards that can be a pain in your opponents ass. Death's Presence is amazing in this deck. It not only recycles the counters on your lost creatures, but in some cases makes more than you had before the creature died. Doubling Season needs no introduction. Half of this card is good enough to make it into the deck. Savage Summoning is a fantastic way to get Animar out with less worry, and start him off with a counter for his troubles. Bioshift is a star in this deck either as a combat trick to get in massive damage with one creature, or as utility if needed. The last notable mention is Contagion Engine. As the king of the proliferate crew, this engine runs the show. You can wipe an enemies board and bolster your army in one single go. You truly cant beat that! The last thing I would like to mention are the Win-Cons of the deck. The hydras are the biggest potential threat to your opponent. Primordial Hydra being one of the worst, he can become a big problem for your opponent very quickly if he has no way to deal with it. Kalonian Hydra is not only a threat itself, but every time it attacks, it triggers proliferate on steroids. Whats that? double all of the counters on my creatures? Don't ask twice!!! Wait what? I have doubling season??? 4x the counters for everyone!!!! Okay, okay I'm sorry, I got a little excited there. Back on topic! Other Win-Cons include Ashling the Pilgrim, and Goblin Razerunners . Hook them up with a Bioshift and a ton of counters on the battlefield, and you have yourself a won game. Now of course, with the amount of +1/+1 counters being thrown around, any one of your creatures has the potential to become extremely lethal. Even with the lack of strong removal and a counter-magic suite, this deck is very dangerous. Once it gets off the ground, its already too late. Take a look through the deck, playtest it, and let me know what you think!
