I've considered Doubling Season many times but it's not very cost effective as you noted. I may try it in the future though just to check.

its always something to trade for, the only thing i would change is ways to protect him because him dieing would kinda suck or having him bounced

Evoke allows you to cast spells and increase your creature cast count. Im looking at you Mulldrifter and Spitebellows . Archwing Dragon a heavier weighted Glitterfang . Possibly Creeping Renaissance to get back all those wrathed creatures? And I have a soft spot for Sakura-Tribe Elder and would play him over Borderland Ranger and his friends any day. I'm currently making this deck , so bare in mind these are completely un-tested idea's!

Also Wood Elves wouldn't hurt, as it could search up your Stomping Ground or Breeding Pool (which you should have!)

Thanks for the thoughts rupickles!
I have learned from playing this deck that cards like Creeping Renaissance while good generally don't get used as much as most of the other cards in the deck. I had some other ones in there that did similar effects but almost always in the game I'd rather be using the mana to summon creatures or pump animar.
I had Mulldrifter and Spitebellows in here originally but took them out because there are better creatures, even with the evoke cost making them better. They are still in my sideboard though, so to each his own. Archwing Dragon is unnecessary b/c Glitterfang gets the counter on just as well for less mana (and honestly no one in EDH should be dying to an Archwing Dragon ).
I will definitely take your advice on Wood Elves as I can use it to search for my Stomping Ground and the Breeding Pool which I definitely should have, and added it to my acquire board.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Good to know about Creeping Renaissance , and while making my version of this deck, I too found that the evoke creatures had to get cut to make room for better creatures (i.e either bombs or cheap mana accel). You are right about Archwing Dragon also. Cheers

I would take Ring of Evos Isle over Ring of Kalonia , as hexproof is imperitive for this commander. Or is having trample more important for the commander damage factor?
September 11, 2012 5:06 a.m.
should play the 2 cmc, 5/6 myr and other artifact creatures. i have no clue which ring is better for your deck
September 11, 2012 5:14 a.m.
I prefer the Ring of Kalonia b/c it doesn't have an activation cost. I see the argument for hexproof but I hardly ever have 2 mana available and in an EDH game with say 3 other people you'd need 6 mana available to protect him during each of their turns. Also I don't have room in the deck for more than one of the rings, so i went with the trample one. Either one will work imo.

why not throw in all three rings in they all combo well with animar i mean sure the ablities are great but with animar since they give +1/+1 counters is what you really want i'd also add more X cost hydras since they also combo amazingly with him

Duplicant is free removal in this deck, and works very well with all the bounce effects. Verdeloth the Ancient is pretty silly too! I Think kicker creatures could be really viable, as they can be played early to level up animar, and then return them and cast them for their kickered glory later?
September 12, 2012 6:42 a.m.
I hadn't thought about creatures with kicker costs. That might be a really viable option. I'll have to look into others too. I like the use of Duplicant as free removal, but I think there are some better cards that might be used for that, but he's definitely one I'd consider.
September 12, 2012 10:35 p.m.
Added Duplicant as suggested. I also added a bunch of creatures from the current block as the guild mechanics provided some really nice choices, like Vorel of the Hull Clade .
I also made the entire deck permanents except for three cards: Worldly Tutor , Capsize , and Primal Surge .

take out Prime Speaker Zegana for Arcanis the Omnipotent and take out the signets for creatures or mana ramp. Fauna Shaman is ok but I think you could do better.

Also bouncing creatures is a nice idea but the if you focus too much on Animar, Soul of Elements and some one blocks it then all of your bounce was usless except for easier ways to get creatures out and that is alread easy with animar so my sugestion is less bouncing creatures and more game-winning creature cards. My animar EDH deck has some nice small drops in it: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/animar-edh-rug/
May 23, 2013 6:51 p.m.
I took out the signets cause I agree there weren't working. I prefer Prime Speaker Zegana instead of Arcanis the Omnipotent b/c Arcanis can't be used his first turn and he's so island heavy. Also, Zegana has you draw cards when she hits the deck, I prefer that.
I'll check out your deck and see what I can change around. Thanks for the link!

No on the Mindwrack Liege because it wouldn't trigger animar's counters and most of the creatures in the deck are not red.
Murkfiend Liege would be more helpful, the untapping the creatures every turn especially. I'll consider him.
Vigor for sure, had totally forgotten about him. Thank you!

Check out the Species Gorger . Not only good with obvious cards but you can pop back cards like Duplicant when a better card to copy comes into play. And its a creature, unlike the Cloudstone Curio . Its especially nice with artifact creatures or morph creatures that Animar can cast for free.
June 21, 2013 12:13 a.m.
Nice suggestion! Thanks, that's one I haven't seen before. I will definitely try to put him in.

no love for titans? Inferno Titan and Frost Titan are quite good.
July 9, 2013 6:38 a.m.
The titans are good, I had the green one until they banned him from EDH. The problem with the titans is that they aren't game winners, nor are they counter providers, so for the deck they aren't the best choices available. I had Inferno Titan in the deck, but 3 damage on entering really isn't anything to win an EDH game.

Having all of those creatures is pretty awesome but you want to be able to do things if animar gets killed a couple times and you can't get rolling. Some ramp would make the deck explode out of the gate. Nature's Lore and Three Visits to get those shocklands or ABUR duals (depending on your budget) while also letting you cast cards since the lands can come into the battlefield untapped.Search for Tomorrow suspended on turn 1 is really good, you'll get a boost to your lands on turn 3, allowing you to cast animar and start off your combo chain in the same turn.
