Anthousa bad? No, Anthousa good!

Commander / EDH* Mono-Green

BlockethTheGrand

I always thought Anthousa was a terrible commander. Her ability seemed narrow, hard to use, and frankly not very good. But it turns out that getting 6/6 worth of stats across 3 bodies essentially "for free" whenever you cast a simple spell like Vines of Vastwood is incredibly strong.

This deck's game plan:

  1. Durdle a bit with ramp and artifacts/enchantments

  2. Play Anthousa only if you can protect her

  3. Smash some face

This deck wants to be aggressive, which makes things a little difficult. Your opponents will quickly see you as a threat, and may single you out at the beginning. That is why you will want to play slowly at the beginning; ramp a bunch, play some of your supportive cards like Season of Growth or Throne of the God Pharaoh, and make sure you are able to protect Anthousa after she comes into play. Once she's out, a simple Might of the Masses will make her swing in for big damage. Focusing one opponent at a time may be frustrating or unfun (for them) but it is the right strategy most of the time. Best if you target the most problematic opponent first.

Hopefully this deck may inspire some of you to reconsider commanders you once thought of as bad. They may turn out alright, and maybe even be your new favorite! Plus, it is a great deckbuilding challenge that will make you better at building decks in the future!
