Here's my post DTK standard UW control deck. The idea here is to slow my opponents until I can find my bombs, then keep them safe through heavy card advantage.
The deck's coming along great, guys! I'm even feeling confident enough to add it to the competitive hub! Critiques are still welcome.
Card Advantage
- Anticipate: It's not quite Ponder, but it's close enough for me.
- Dig Through Time: My favorite part of this card isn't even the possibility of a low cost. I love that there are no restrictions to what you can dig for.
Bombs
- Elspeth, Sun's Champion: The archetypal control finisher in Standard. She makes little guys, protects them from fatties, and then makes them big with her ultimate. Pretty sweet package.
- Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: Ugin's ultimate, on the other hand, is irrelevant in this deck. I'm just looking for the burn and board wipes.
- Dragonlord Ojutai: I feel like Ojutai should be able to take care of a game by himself. Built in Anticipate is awesome, too.
- Sunscorch Regent: Good against control, ok against normal aggro, and absolutely great against dash. We'll see how he tests further.
Counterspells
- Dissolve : My favorite counter of the current Standard. Gets rid of everything!
- Negate: Because who doesn't like a cheap counterspell?
- Ojutai's Command : Creature counterspell and cantrip! I'm a fan. Four life may come in handy on occasion as well.
Board Control
- End Hostilities : Good for clearing the board before I drop one of my bombs.
- Devouring Light: This style of removal fits my play style. I usually find myself using removal when an opponent is attacking, anyway.
- Nyx-Fleece Ram: Ok, not really board control, but a good chump blocker that I don't mind keeping on the field... If he draws removal, that's all the better.
Sideboard
- Erase : Theros is still out there. I'm almost tempted to mainboard this card with all of the strong enchantments and enchantment creatures floating around.
- Secure the Wastes: Either emergency chump blockers or a blowout. Synergizes nicely with Elspeth, Sun's Champion
- Negate: For those pesky mirror matches.
- Surge of Righteousness : Because I bet BR dash will be a thing.
- Mirror Mockery: Testing this out against midrange and Stormbreath Dragon because everyone seems to think I need an answer for it.
Why no Narset Transcendent?!
A list of cards that have been suggested and I have no intention of adding: Narset Transcendent, Soulfire Grand Master, Silumgar's Scorn, Shorecrasher Elemental , Heliod, God of the Sun, Encase in Ice
I'll be adding reasons why these cards don't work soon.
