You should at least try it

yeah dude Soulfire without Burn is pretty bad. the buyback is for Burn spells thats why you get lifelink from instants/sorceries. Buying back a Dissolve turn 10 of the game is useless especially as a control deck, their hand is probably filled with creature removal since they havent used it all game against you (because there are little to no targets)

I have to agree with SpikedEggnog in this one, control doesn't want to run creatures as to blank a lot of removal spells at Game 1. Adding SFGM gives them a target for their removal, and seriously, it kisn't safe from ANY kill spell. Heck, even Wild Slash hits it.

Ojutai Exemplars really helps if I'm playing at sorcery speed. However, most of my action will be taking place at instant speed during my opponent's turn and probably their second main phase. Only their third ability would be relevant then.

Have you tried Silumgar, the Drifting Death? The -1/-1 is awesome, and if you're already running Ojutai then it becomes -2/-2 and that wipes plenty of boards without even needing any dedicated removal spells.

Good looking deck! I've play tested it a couple of times against U/B control and Abzan walkers, granted it does waver in the mirror, I found that by tweaking the sideboard slightly to fit in a copy of Pearl Lake Ancient helps out a huge deal in control match ups.

Just a bit curious, how has Sunscorch Regent worked out for you? I opted to run two copies of Icefall Regent instead, as it's a bit more resilient to removal and taps down the one threat I couldn't prevent in time.

Thanks for posting this, it's been great fun to test and it's helped me out quite a bit in making my Esper control deck.

No Narset Transcendent and you mentioned you had no plans to add her. I take it that this is because you run a lot of creatures for a control deck, which could cause your +1 to whiff a lot.

I'm surprised there isn't any Myth Realized in the deck

But is Myth Realized any better than Nyx-Fleece Ram in any of the difficult matchups?

Looks really well done. other than budget reasons though i can't figure out why you wouldn't run 1 or 2 narset. I'm dropping one sunschorch regent and giving 1 narset a try in this. If it runs well I'll let you know cheers.

Side boarding in a Nyx Fleece and or Myth Realized could change a game. When you're playing against an aggro deck that lets you feed into both its only a matter of simple taste. Myth Realized, just like Nyx Fleece, is an investment card. Nyx fleece you pay two mana for a defensive strategy while Myth realized helps a control deck put in with more of an aggressive take. It's all depending on play style. But I like the deck none the less. Helps me figure out some ideas for Ojutai. I feel like Refocus for a budget form of this would be neat for Ojutai.

Before reading my comment, I'd first like to put out a disclaimer; Standard is not my first format (I'm a modern nut), and I'm not particularly a control player either. that being said, I hope my input is of some help.

I know this is control, but perhaps too few creatures? Like I said I'm not a control player but i don't see this deck excelling against some well-played weenie aggro. But this deck has obviously earned lots of applause and stood up in playtesting so what do I know?

But if you were considering hearing me out, I'd invite you to hear me out with an open mind;

Quickling is a card that earned an unimpressed sigh from many. Just another fairly-janky creature that would only see play in sealed/limited... But I see it as a less-expensive (albeit less-effective) Restoration Angel. Sure it sends it to your hand rather than an immediate blink, but depending on how attached you are to Nyx-Fleece Ram, maybe that could take it's spot to save your Sunscorch Regent from a kill-spell or save Ojutai from a boardwipe. And you'd come out with a 2/2 flyer to boot. Just food for thought.

On a different note, I'm a huge fan of Monastery Siege. Either keep cards cycling through your hand, or get some extra protection against other spells. All for 3 mana.

Also Reality Shift would make a good sideboard card. Unconditional exile is great, and chances are, a 2/2 Manifestation will be much easier to deal with than whatever you exile.

Obviously you got a pretty solid build here. If my input helped, great, if not, fine. It's just good to see an original deck idea in standard get so much attention :) +1

maybe even Jeskai Barricade could do well instead of Quickling or maybe even replace one or two rams...

keyword "May" makes it better than quickling in certain situations, especially when you need a blocker at instant speed
