So the cuts would be Mind Over Matter, Temple Bell, Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and something?

I think the combo is nice, but at the same time it's not that great unless your general is Arcanis the Omnipotent or Azami, Lady of Scrolls. Outside of that I think you can get a lot more value from other cards.

I don't like those options though. Dark Tutelage will cost you too much life and Minds Aglow especially being a sorcery will help your opponents too much. I would recommend:

  • Greed: Gauranteed life loss but fixed at 2 and you can get cards when you need them.

  • Increasing Ambition: Good tutor and easy to cast.

  • Cunning Wish: because 100 cards is not enough couterspells :P

My goal for the changes is to make the deck run even faster. To do this, I decided to run as much draw engines as I can to ensure I don't miss land drops and have counterspells in my hand when I go for my combos.

Greed is just too slow for me. Even Necropotence is now on the chopping block. I ALWAYS get a ton of hate so my games are always a race against time.

Increasing Ambition's cmc is just too high for me. I am rarely able to use Mystical Tutor's flashback ability so I doubt i'll be able to use Increasing Ambition's either.

Dark Tutelage is not that bad especially with Scroll Rack and Sensei's Divining Top in the deck.

You are right about Minds Aglow. I will probably just replace it with Trickbind or Stifle.

I have been trying to convince my playgroup to allow wishboards but it seems none of them are interested.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm open to listen if anything else comes to mind.

Well I could say running green but that may not be what you're after :P

Lol. Yeah, that did cross my mind but that would require too many changes that my budget simply cannot accomodate.

I took out Cabal Coffers because it takes too long to be really useful.

Playtested a bit, yesterday. Insidious Dreams is really, really, really working well for me.

One thing I can see improving on is speed. Consistently getting to 7 mana by turn 5 is my new target. Running Mox Opal, Chrome Mox, Lotus Petal and some artifact lands seems to be a good way of achieving this.

Might need to replace Trickbind, Stifle and maybe Negate or Dispel.

Just noticed how much effort i'm putting to make sure Mox Opal gets metalcraft. Might be better off replacing it with Negate.

Also, Crucible of Worlds is starting to feel like an odd card in the deck. Might replace it with Chromatic Lantern or another draw engine (Dark Tutelage?).

All this effort to speed the deck up if making me feel quite lost. Lol

Have you considered putting in Dark Confidant instead of Dark Tutelage?

Yes I have. Just waiting for its reprint in the coming Modern Masters. :)

Yeah, I'm working on an Oona, Queen of the Fae deck, too, but mine is more combo oriented. I would recommend putting in more tutors, but if you're deck isn't combo oriented, then maybe you shouldn't put in more tutors.

P.S.: Sorry for long comment!

Cool! Although i'm not sure how my deck can be more combo-oriented. It is combo through and through.

I think I already have a good number of tutors. I would love to add Imperial Seal and Grim Tutor but they cost more than I can afford.

You can build a non combo-oriented Oona deck? well, you learn something new every day....

I just realized I can't play Dark Confidant with Heartless Summoning in play.

So it's either I go with Dark Tutelage or get rid of Heartless Summoning. Decisions, decisions.

It has been a while since i've posted. Haven't really done any changes to the deck.

I am contemplating on replacing Monastery Siege and/or Fact or Fiction with Dark Confidant and/or a cheap counterspell or a good draw card. Any suggestions?

got my hands on a Cruel Tutor (mainly because I like the art). Wondering if it can be of good use to the deck. Thoughts?

enpc says... #17

Its ok, but I'd still run Diabolic Tutor first.

July 26, 2015 5:34 a.m.

Megalomania says... #18

I know. The cmc of Cruel Tutor just seems so nice. And since i'm trying to get as much as I can during the first 3 turns, CT just might be better for the deck than Diabolic Tutor. I just swapped out Fact or Fiction for it. Hopefully, i'll get to play a good number of games during the weekend to see if I have enough draw engines to cancel out its drawback.

Another thing I am thinking of doing away with is Gilded Lotus. It is a combo piece-of-sorts but I think the can manage without it.

Have yet to decide if having both Dark Confidant and Dark Tutelage will do me more harm than good (my ave cmc is quite high). The deck seems to perform much better if I can get those draw engines early in the game.

What're your thoughts on Jace's Sanctum? I'm torn on whether to run it or not...

Megalomania says... #20

It might work well in other more spell-based decks but at 4cmc, I don't think I can use it.

So I am looking at your deck and it looks great but with so many mana rocks and tutors to grab infinite mana pieces dont the rocks become dead draws and redundant?

October 11, 2015 5:54 p.m.

enpc says... #22

You need a large amount of mana rocks/ramp in general to ensure that you get opening hand ramp. While it means you can draw into it later, that's nit as big a deal as not drawing into it early game.

Not to mention that if you have the combo on board it doesn't really matter if your next few draws are mana rocks if the game is over.

MadMansPurity says... #23

True @enpc the redundancy of so many rocks caught me off guard lol

I am giving a +1 because this would be an exciting and nail biting match against my own Oona :D

Have you thought about Riptide Laboratory as an extra Venser bounce enabler and protection for Oona? I run it in my kruphix just for hitting infinite triggers on Venser and Vendilion Clique, and it never really hurts me in any way to otherwise offset the advantage

October 11, 2015 6:59 p.m.

Megalomania says... #25

Happy there are still people taking interest in this deck. Thanks guys!

I need the "extra" rocks for several reasons: 1. Ramp; 2. Resiliency against land hosing and hate which is pretty much the weakness of the deck; and 3. To allow me to play the storm combo as soon as I hit 6-7 mana knowing i'll have enough rocks to draw and cast Tendrils of Agony.

As for Riptide Lab, it's use in the deck is quite marginal. Oona hardly ever needs protection because she only hits the board after an infinite mana combo. Venser only gets used as a sub for Oona or as a counterspell against spells that "cannot be countered".
