Introduction:

Feline Ferocity was one of the precon commanders of 2018, with Arahbo at the helm. Because of my love for cats it was logically the first commander i bought. It’s a tribal deck which has undergone many changes since then.

I started out building the deck for multiplayer with Stax in mind. For the beginning player I was at the time, Stax wasn’t the best archetype. I noticed i was slowing myself down more than it should, as I wasn’t really familiar with playing a Stax deck. I also noticed this deck could kill 1 player very quickly, but was then targetted by the other players at the table in fear of their lives. The logic step was building the deck for 1V1 purposes with less stax and more slanted towards pure Aggro. Only 1 player to kill and less life to bring to 0.

So the first build of the 1V1 variant was born, alot more cats and some removal to clear blockers out of the way. I liked the deck this way and it was pretty effective when i drew the right cats, namely the 1- & 2-drops. It contained quiete some 4-, 5- & 6-drops though. After some time playing this version i found the higher CMC cats to be slowing down the deck too much. I reorganised the deck cutting everything above CMC 5, and even only a few cards above CMC 3 remained in it, the majority of the deck were 1- & 2 CMC cats and removal made sure I could come blazing out of the gates dealing alot of damage early in the game.

Early 2019 i revised the deck again, bringing in more protection spells (God’s Willing, Vines Of Vastwood, Mother Of Runes,…) to save my kitties from opposing removal, which was the deck’s bane. At this moment I also added a couple of Stax elements again to slow down the opponent giving me more time to kill them (Armageddon, Ravages Of War, Gaddock Teeg,…) and some pumpspells to be able to close out a little quicker (Rancor, Gryff’s Boon, Berserk,…)

After the banning of Arahbo in the French banlist I tried a few other cats as commander, but none of them gave me the same satisfaction Arahbo gave me, so I kept the deck as it is, only playable in other 1V1 formats.

How the deck functions:

The bread and butter of this deck, or even the only reason it can exist, is Arahbo’s Eminence ability working from the command zone, giving +3/+3 to a cat at the beginning of combat. This makes big chunks of damage possible starting very early in the game. Lost Leonin combined with this effect and a Berserk makes for a possible turn 3 Infect kill in the current iteration. Arahbo has another abilty too, it can give attacking cats double their power and trample, on top of the +3/+3 this can close out the slower games from nowhere.

Other noteworthy cards are the following: -Utility creatures (most of them are cats) Bronzehide Lion: Can become an aura which grants Indestructible. Felidar Cub, Leonin Relic-Warder & Qasali Pridemage: Artifact/Enchantment hate. Gaddock Teeg, Voice Of Resurgence, Prowling Serpopard & Mother Of Runes: Make it harder for control. Leonin Arbiter: Makes it harder for fetches and tutors, I run those cards too but you can work arround it while it can screw over the opponent. Mirri: Make life tough in combat for your opponent. Rhonas: Gives trample and is a big indestructible attacker with cats arround. -Various Lifelink cats give alot of extra life which helps alot in the race against other aggro decks. -Elspeth and Ajani: to buff cats and make them fly. -The equipments; Umezawa’s Jitte: removal, pump and lifegain. Sword Of Feast And Famine: protection, pump, extra mana and carddisadvantage for the opponent. Sword Of Fire And Ice: protection, pump, extra damage and cardadvantage. Sword Of Truth And Justice: protection, pump, extra damage an maybe some extra Planeswalker loyalty. -Wasteland & Ghost Quarter: To get rid of pesky lands such as Maze Of Ith, Dark Depths or Cabal Coffers. -Maze Of Ith: to get rid of pesky attackers or give your own creatures in combat pseudo-vigilance. -Stirring Wildwood, Mutavault, Horizon Canopy and Gavony Township: Save you from flooding. -Armageddon & Ravages Of War: If you have 1 cat on the board and pop one of these you win the game.

Possible adjustments:

This decklist is based on the French banlist which means it can’t take advantage of some other powerfull cards. Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond and Lotus Petal Come to mind, which make a turn 2 kill possible…

T1: Mox/Petal, Land, Lost Leonin T2: Go to combat, Lost Leonin becomes a 5/4, play Berserk with possible protection up= 10 Infect

Also Adorned Pouncer with this setup can do 16 damage on T2 wich is also pretty insane!

Alters:

Because this was my first deck and I have loved playing it since i decided to have it completely altered a while ago. Sadly Arahbo has been banned in the French banlist and can’t be played in that format anymore, but since i love the deck so much i wanted to continue having it altered. I was looking arround Cardmarket an had bought some altered versions of cards I played, and contacted a few people with the idea of having them alter the deck completely. This way I came in contact with Martial Alters, through our many talks we got to know each other’s style and he knows exactly whay-t I want for the deck! We started the project mid 2019, altering 2-3 cards every month (More than that my wallet wouldn’t let me) The idea is to have every card extended or altered so that they all had something to do with cats where possible, down to the basic lands. My personal favorite so far is Metallic Mimic, which he made look like a cat! With this I would like to thank him for the awesome work he has done so far and hope to get done in the future!
