This is a more expensive "wish list" version of the deck I'm actually playing. You may ask why I'd want to play this artifact deck in Modern instead of the tried and true Affinity deck. The answer is... well I don't know - this is just really fun when it all comes off.

The slightly cheaper version of the deck is pretty similar, but uses Evolutionary Leap for sac'ing instead of Arcbound Ravager.

The optimal start is to get out Hardened Scales on turn 1. It triggers the modular creatures as they enter the battlefield, and again if they die and you move the counters around.

An optimal game:

  • T1: Play Forest, Hardened Scales

  • T2: Play Island, Steel Overseer

  • T3: Play an non-tap land, Arcbound Worker, Arcbound Ravager, activate Steel Overseer, both Arcbound creatures are now 4/4

  • T4: Play Arcbound Worker/Stinger/Ravager, activate Steel Overseer, Sac the new Arcbound to Ravager, adding 4+1 counters (from modular + scales) and another 2 from Ravagers own ability and scales. Ravager is now 13/13, worker is 6/6. Sac Worker to Ravager, adding 6+1+2 counters to pump Ravager to 22/22. You should still have at least 1 mana available to throw in a Rancor for trample or Apostle's Blessing for protection. Swing for the kill.

This deck is weak against exiling and full board wipes, so you'll want to save the defensive cards to deal with those scenarios.
