Arcum, Lord of Eldrazi

Commander / EDH

Fuddumz

This is what I hope will be a new take on the Arcum Dagsson decks. The concept behind this is to use the now infamous Arcum Dagsson, Paradox Engine, and Citanul Flute to new and drastic effect. By entering into infinite mana with either the Basalt Monolith and Rings of Brighthearth, or Power Artifact and Mana Vault, Basalt Monolith, or Grim Monolith, we are able to use Citanul Flute to search for ANY Eldrazi and IMMEDIATELY put them on the field. With Paradox Engine on the field, as part of our original combo, we are able to untap Citanul Flute and do it again, and again, and AGAIN. Of course you can use Arcum Dagsson to search out Planar Bridge and go for Omniscience, but that is really adding insult to injury. Up to you.

Using Arcum Dagsson you can make these monsters indestructible by summoning Eldrazi Monument or make them artifacts with Mycosynth Lattice and THEN make them indestructible with Darksteel Forge. Give them haste, trample, flying, vigilance, protection from black and red,AND first strike with Akroma's Memorial. Attack and suddenly you have taken out your most threatening opponent in one fatal punch around turn 3 or 4, or you can swing at everyone, watch them sacrifice a ton of stuff and then have to give it to you thanks to It That Betrays. Be sure to leave Spawnsire of Ulamog in the deck, just in case.

Use Planar Portal to search for any counter spells you need to stop your opponents from exiling your creatures, or making you sacrifice things you want to keep. If your Eldrazi do get exiled, due mostly to bad foresight on your part, search for your Spawnsire of Ulamog and bring everything right back out.

This is not a deck that knocks everyone out on turn 3 like most Arcum decks. It is meant to give everyone a chance to play, and still show the overwhelming power that an Arcum deck has. Instead of being a turn 3 or 4 win, you end the game on turn 8. When respectable decks typically go off. If Emrakul, the Aeons Torn was still legal... well she's not so we won't go there.

If you want to hear the story I came up with to logic out this deck, continue reading. If not, sod off.

First lets think about Arcum Dagsson's story. A brilliant artificer, whose creations and the things he studied to create them, run amok through the city of Soldev after having been tampered with by his political rivals. He then swears never to create any creature-like machine again in the wake of their rampage.

(Now we enter my take on this deck) He proceeds to create a device that could summon the remaining dangerous artifact creatures from throughout Soldev. He destroys them to create wonders like the Mana Vault, and to cast spells like Power Artifact. Soldev grows strong and her rivals grow jealous. In time his beloved city falls under siege. His machines were what protected the city from it's enemies. What little malitia the city did have died in the battle to destroy the Soldevi Steam Beast s and the Phyrexian War Beast s he had studied to make them. What could he do?

Now look at Show and Tell. Imagine that little guy is Arcum Dagsson after he created aPlanar Portal. What does he do when his city falls under attack with a machine that can summon creatures from anywhere? Tap into the multi-verse and finds the biggest, baddest creature he could to protect his city. Thus entereth the Eldrazi. Conduit of Ruin came first. Unbeknownst to Arcum Dagsson, the beast tapped into his infinite power and summoned Emrakul, the Promised End. Her massive intellect instantly grasps how to operate the machine, and before Arcum Dagsson knows what happened, the Eldrazi have come. She looks into the multiverse and summons artifacts that would aide her in her conquest of this new world. Akroma's Memorial is taken. Driven mad by the vision of Emrakul, Arcum creates the Mycosynth Lattice turning all creation into Artifacts, and then the Darksteele Forge. The armies gathered outside the walls tremble in horror at what has come from Soldev.

Some people dont play infinite. It's great to play people like that. They tend to have interesting decks that don't always work, but are always interesting. Problem is that not all people are like that. There's nothing better than shuting down people who like going infinite by going infinite first. Here's how you do that with this deck:

Planar Portal+ Reito Lantern +Time Stretch with Mox Opal , Mox Diamond, and any infinite mana combo. What's the result? Infinite turns. This can happen the turn right after Arcum Dagsson comes out, or the same turn if he has haste. You don't REALLY need it with 17 of the best Eldrazi on the field. It's mostly just to add insult to injury. Nothing like salt in an open wound. Don't do it to people you play with on a regular unless they are being jerks.
