FNM Results and Deck Update —Oct. 22, 2015

Thank you for reading about this homebrew Aristocrats deck!

You can catch it on twitch.tv/procfreq to see it in action versus other decks in the format!

When I took the original list at FNM I went 2-2. Not great, not bad, for a deck with very little revisions and very little testing. I used the original Rule of 9 prototype on stream twice as well. It has a poor matchup vs. Zoo I've discovered, a matchup I didn't think I would have trouble with.

FNM Matchs: Round 1 - U/B - This was someone playing an old standard deck, not retrofitted with all Modern cards in it. Had to play through Chandra Pyromaster, Izzet Staticaster and Anger of the Gods. We won 2-1.

Round 2 - Living End - I thought this was Jund at first, until I saw the Cascade cards off of Tidehollow Sculler. Even then, he was still able to cycle to his next Cascade-enabler and go off. I had a slow hand and no sacrifice engines in play, so I couldn't throw my board into the graveyard and let him reanimate it for free for me, which is how I won game 2. Game three he hit his Leyline of the Void, which turns off "Dies" triggers. Still, we forced through lots of combat damage and got him down to 6, before losing. 1-2.

Round 3 - Griselshoal - I had never seen this deck before, so when a Nourishing Shoal was cast turn 1 to go up to 30 life, I thought I was versus some Life-gain deck or a control deck. He combo'd off turn 2 both games. Lost 0-2.

Round 4 - Waste Not Storm - I thought this deck was a joke, but its real. He combo'd off turn 2, ended up hitting mana to play three Waste Nots, got lots of black mana from the Waste Nots, and stormed me to death. Even if I didn't die to storm, he still had 27 2/2 Zombies. Game 2 I was able to rush him down so in response to him starting to combo off, I sacrificed my entire board to bring him to 0. Game 3 I mulled until I hit Leyline of Sanctity. He scooped to me starting with it in play. 2-1.

My meta is full of combo it looks like. So I tried to aim the sideboard towards being able to deal with combo, especially with Stain the Mind and Slaughter Games. Lightning Bolt and Falkenrath Aristocrat are there to help close a game faster than the deck would have been able to do as just a strictly w/b deck.
