I love building tribal decks and see what makes each of the tribes in Magic tick.

One tribe I hadn't explored so far was knights. So I decided to give Aryel a shot.

One interesting theme that I found, especially with the white and black knights, is that a lot of knights have a cycle of opposites. (Just take a look at White Knight and Black Knight ). While I didn't include every knight cycle, I included some of them to show off some of the more interesting knights in magic.

In general, this deck is kind of a weird mix between aggro and control. You start out with somewhat of a control plan, hating out specific creatures and permanents, so that you can swing in with your knights. You can even counter black and white spells with Order of the Sacred Torch and Stromgald Cabal , which is something you rarely see coming from an Orzhov deck.

Knights also have some sick lords. Just take a look at Kinsbaile Cavalier and Knight Exemplar ! The latter works really well when combined with a board wipe like Wrath of God . Sure, the exemplar will die, but it still results in more or less a one-sided boardwipe.

One thing that really hepls the deck excell is mass vigilance. This way, you can swing in with all of your knights, while at the same time being able to use Aryel's destruction ability. Loyal Unicorn is probably the best out of the bunch when it comes to mass vigilance, as it also gives your creatures semi indestructability. I'm also considering adding some mass untap abilities, such as Roar of the Kha , To Arms! or Battle Cry .

Some neat "combos" or synergies of note:

Geier Reach Sanitarium + Haakon, Stromgald Scourge or Final Parting + Haakon, Stromgald Scourge

Haakon is such a strange card, but once you can dump him into your graveyard, he can really start doing some work, by recurring your knights over and over. You can either tutor him out of your deck using Final Parting or, if he's stranded in your hand, discard him using Geier Reach Sanitarium . While on the board Hakuun synergizes quite well with Dauntless Bodyguard , allowing you to recurr the guard over and over and protecting specific creatures, most notably your Knight Exemplar !

Crusading Knight + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

I think this combo pretty much explains itself. I sadly do not have Cabal Coffers in my possession yet. I will add it to this deck as soon as I get my hands on one. But in the meantime, this combo will have to do.
