This deck attempts to play Assault Formation, and as many creatures with great toughness for their mana cost as possible. All of the creatures in the deck have a form of utility on them so that if we don't have Assault Formation in play, we still have plenty of action until we do.
Creatures:
Sidisi's Faithful - A very solid creature anyway, but making it a 4/4 for 1 blue mana is incredible.
Sigiled Starfish - An underrated creature since it offers no offense (in most decks), but it provides a scry ability on a solid blocker, helping us get to the cards we need.
Bounding Krasis - An all-around great card, can tap down my opponents creatures, or untap mine. Works well in conjunction with Sigiled Starfish.
Harbinger of the Tides - another creature defensive creature that works well win concert with Press for Answers,
Stitched Mangler
and Bounding Krasis.
Graf Mole
- If we can Investigate enough, this guy will net us a TON of extra life. A 2/4 body for 3 mana isn't bad either, giving us another great defensive creature.
Erdwal Illuminator - Use this in concert with
Graf Mole
(plus Investigating), and we have tons of card draw to go along with our insane life-gain.
Stitched Mangler
- A 2/3 for 2U that enters the battlefield tapped sounds pretty bad, but if it is upgraded to a "3/3" for 2U that taps a guy down for 2 attack phases, and we have a winner.
Void Grafter - Sometimes creatures just need protection from spot removal. This guy is the best around for this type of deck. A flash "4/4" for 1GU is very good, and giving something Hexproof on top of that is just gravy.
The other spells:
Ongoing Investigation - This is our main Clue generator. Even if our creatures die, we can still gain life and Investigate.
Press for Answers - How great is this card? 1U to tap down an opposing creature for two attack phases AND Investigating is fantastic. Opponents will have a hard time blocking all of our "enormous" creatures.
Sideboard:
The sideboard offers strategies against fast aggro decks, as well as midrange and control. Adding Send to Sleep to the deck will give ANY creature-based deck problems. Negate and
Mizzium Meddler
come in versus decks with a lot of spot removal, helping us protect our more important creatures.
Profaner of the Dead
is great against decks that want to come out of the gate swinging quickly, and if coupled with the life-gain in the deck, including
Jaddi Offshoot
from the sideboard, can help turn things around very fast.
This deck is really great. It's fun, potent, and competitive. Plus, you can build it on an extremely low budget (~$30).
