Wow. Cool. I didn't expect anything like that when I saw turn 3 win! I thought it would be a heroic type thing. +1 for surprising me with a nice deck! Good job!

Thanks Minelia5, I think this card is kind of flying under the radar right now, I can't wait to see what other people come up with.

I have my own build if you want to check it out ( :

Anyone forget about me? Cause they are gonna pay.--It's a mill deck with Assault Formation as a secondary wincon.

Commune with the gods to find AF?

Bant colors with Ensoul Artifact might be good since this deck is dead in the water without Assault Formation. +1 from me

Upvote from me. I'm also excited about Assault Formation and all the high-toughness creatures floating around for very little mana. But I hadn't taken the time to brew a deck around it yet. To be really competitive, I agree with JAIL_HOUSE that it needs a good backup plan for when you don't draw Assault Formation or it gets destroyed by something like Erase. Although my thought, since I was considering a deck like this, was that with all the tough blockers you should have you can probably hang on a long time waiting for Assault Formation to show up. But you'll definitely have games when it doesn't at all.

Yeah, Jthd35, Commune with the Gods looks good as a way to find Assault Formation.

Knockadoon thanks, and I actually just added Kin-Tree Invocation. If you don't have Assault Formation out you can use shape the sands and/or glaring aegis on one of your creatures, play Kin-Tree Invocation and then you'll have a 10/10 or bigger creature on the battlefield. I'm trying to come up with some more ideas for this as it is pretty gimmicky.

Tested it and had a turn 3 10/10 creature with Kin-Tree Invocation. Definitely a solid addition. Got the idea from Minelia5's deck.

I'm play testing this as well and it's pretty good. I'd take out 2 of Archers' Parapet, which isn't nearly as good as Lagonna-Band Trailblazer considering it has defender and cost one more mana, then put in 2 more Commune with the Gods to give you a better chance of finding Assault Formation more quickly. But the early Kin-Tree Invocation creatures are also pretty awesome.

It is gimmicky, Halstinavos, but I think it's a really good gimmick. Other good players will know how to break this with Erase or Dromoka's Command, or pull your important cards out with Duress or Thoughtsieze, but they'll still have to take time to get past your blockers, and this deck is so quickly lethal once it gets Assault Formation (you'll just topdeck it sometimes) that people won't always have a chance to break your gimmick before you kill them. Someone running Void Snare could give you trouble as they'll possibly be 2-for-1'ing you, or worse (I sometimes had 2 Glaring Aegis cards on a single Ornithopter), but I think the kinds of cards that effectively disrupt this aren't the kinds of things people run in their main deck (except for Dromoka's Command which I think will be popular, but that gives you the option to sacrifice a Glaring Aegis if you have one along with Assault Formation). So I'd say either way the odds are in your favor, and you'll probably often have a game 1 win in the bag before they go to their sideboard to look for answers against this, and then can they beat you twice in a row with no margin for error? Maybe. I'm gonna work on a deck like this one myself; I'll give you credit for it, and let you know how it plays out playing at home and at the local game store when I get a chance to go.

I played this some more. I ran it against a warrior swarm deck I made recently that includes Dragons of Tarkir, and that deck was able to beat this one.

In one game this deck lost because it had a wall of blockers up, but no Assault Formation, and the other deck had 1 Brutal Hordechief for a couple turns, and then a second Brutal Hordechief for a final turn, and its effect of causing the opponent to lose life when creatures attack was too much. I had a swarm of warriors and so was attacking with several creatures each turn. They weren't dying because the blockers couldn't kill them every time they attacked, and the warrior deck didn't have to worry about counterattack as long as this deck didn't have Assault Formation out. The second game was similar. This deck had a wall of blockers, but the warrior deck built up its own army of warriors, and by the time Assault Formation came out it was a creature standoff. This deck had plenty of power, but since its big creatures had no evasion, and the warriors could chump block, there was no way for this deck to survive the counterattack. So the blockers were stuck on defense. Brave the Sands would have helped in that case. The other deck finally played Descent of Dragons and ended the game right there, but you can imagine someone playing Crux of Fate or End Hostilities and ending your big attack before it starts.

I'm going to suggest Noble Quarry. I've used that card to great effect in a heroic Centaur Battlemaster deck to get that one big finishing attack through all the opponent's blockers. And if you can Bestow it and use it twice, even better.

Since you have black in your deck, I'd throw in some Duress as well, to give you a chance to stop them from breaking your combo. I find I like to have at least 8 cards in a a deck that disrupt the other player somehow, and even though that dilutes my offense a little bit, it ups the odds of victory over many games. My deck design usually starts out with a high portion of the offense, Assault Formation + BIG BLOCKER in this case, and then whittles things down from there to fit in the 8 - 10 disruption cards that you'd use on the other player. I think if you have Duress to pull out the card they have that might disrupt you, and then have Noble Quarry to make sure you can get at least one big attack through, the deck will be more sturdy against having bad games or getting stuck in a stalemate while the opponent builds up to something unstoppable.

That's a LONG post, but I'm really excited about Assault Formation and would love to see it work. I really like decks that are a little bit off the beaten path, but still good, and this definitely fits the bill.

I'm also going to suggest Nylea, God of the Hunt for the trample, which is killer when you also have Assault Formation, to get around getting chump-blocked, and if you can get devotion high enough to make Nylea a creature and then Bestow Noble Quarry on it, you can use it every turn after that since Nylea is Indestructible. My heroic Centaur Battlemaster deck had those cards in it...not enough of them that you saw it every game, but when you did have them, you'd win every time.

I like this deck a lot,but I suggest taking out the 4x Ornithopters because they actually do nothing if you don't get the assault formation on turn 2. Instead I would play Wall of Essence and/or Wall of Mulch. The advantage of Wall of Mulch is that the Walls can be sacrificed if your opponent plays a mass or target removal. Jeskai Barricade could also be nice to save one of your creatures from a target removal. Of course they all have only toughness 4 but it's still good for 2 mana and you also have Shape the Sands and Glaring Aegis.

Further I would play 4x Commune with the Gods as mentioned before, because it's essential to get assault foramtion.

I'd suggest also maybe taking out 2 Ornithopter and adding 2 Graceblade Artisan. It's definitely a tick up in the mana curve, but it's good whether or not you have Assault Formation, and can kill some of those pesky early aggro guys like Bloodsoaked Champion and their type. With Glaring Aegis on it it becomes a 5/8, which is good without Assault Formation, really great with it, and gives a nice target for Kin-Tree Invocation either way. I'm working on my own version of this, Assault Formation (credit: Halstinavos), if anyone wants to check it out.

I built this card into a midrange deck with a strong early game and a whip. Have a look at it!

With that low curve you should cut a couple of lands imo. Consept is really cool though :)

This deck is something I've thought of too - cool deck :)I was thinking about GWU-build, with Dragon's Eye Savants and Monastery Flock as a surprise blockers.
