Hey you! have you ever wanted to see the life drain from your "friend's" faces? Then have i got the deck for you! Stax has long been an EDH archetype, so what's so special about this deck? The commander of course! With Athreos, God of Passage at the helm, all your hated D&T creatures like Leonin Arbiter, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, and Vryn Wingmare get to keep coming back from the dead even when your opponents (and occasionally you) murder them in cold blood. This deck also runs the wonderful pillow-fort enchantments that everyone (Token players excluded) loves! Now, it wouldn't be an Athreos deck without a literal plethora of board wipes. To fill this role, we have anything from Ritual of Soot to the classic Wrath of God. The two ways this deck wins are through a handful of infinite combos and the usual grindy attrition expected from a stax deck. Naturally, the combos are my personal favorite way to win, as there's nothing better than using Krav, the Unredeemed to force your opponents to draw their entire libraries + a billion more cards, or the largest humanly possible Debt to the Deathless or just creating an infinitely massive board of zombie and/or spirit tokens in the off chance you can't abuse either Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar further.Exposition aside, there are three infinite combos in this deck, the first is Phyrexian altar + Xathrid necromancer + Bloodsoaked champion + Pitiless plunderer, which gets you infinite Zombie tokens. The second infinite combo this pile has to offer is Ashnod's Altar + Pitiless Plunderer + Twilight Drover with any token on the battlefield already, this creates infinite flying spirits. The third infinite combo is the most complicated, and was kinda found on accident at a recent FNM, with 4 other enchantments on board, one of which being Starfield of Nyx you can do Phyrexian altar + Athreos, god of passage + Authority of the consuls + Smothering abomination, provided you have either a friend or a willing subject who cares a little too much about their life total, you can essentially cast Enter the Infinite using this combo. If you decide however, to win the boring way, there are plenty of board wipes and pillow-forts to make anyone playing Sai, Master Thopterist want to claw their (or potentially your) eyes out.
