You dont need 4 athreos 3 should suffice nor do you need 4 boros elite

so you oculd put in 2 Whip of Erebos which you can always use to create more creatures then make zombies by saccing them and 2 Brimaz, King of Oreskos while not being a human he is great for your board state. and 1 more Hero's Downfall

Spear of Heliod just works great with this.

High Priest of Penance is nice in the BW humans. and I second Imposing Sovereign . It does well against aggro.

I'm think I want 4 athreos because after JOU releases I'm expecting a lot of hate for gods and it is a pivotal piece of the puzzle for me. I have definitely thought about whip of erebos. I might side out a few creatures for it, as for Brimaz I'd rather Xathrid or Athreos in my three-drop slot I think a blood baron or a ghost council would be better for a mid-game transition.

Here is my deck Orzhov Aggro

Perhaps mana confluence would be a good set of lands for this deck? The life loss wouldn't be too bad, and the soldier of the pantheon will help set it back against almost any deck.

Spear also looks like it would fit well, as previously mentioned.

Why no Thoughtseize ?

As good as Thoughtseize is. I think personally that it slows down. It would be a good SB card for control and mid-late game threats but in aggro there are better low drops that need to be played first. Thats just my take on it and don't get me wrong I love the card just not in this deck.

I agree with you but I would replace Duress with it because Thoughtseize takes more.

Aytonday says... #10

Eh if your going to run Duress you should just go Thoughtseize because well Thought can take much bigger threats.

nice! i just came up with a similar deck concept. lots of people play control in my city so i'm running a few Sin Collector s, and i also decided to run the High Priest of Penance . what i like about them is that their casting costs also help turn on Athreos, God of Passage really easily. The high priest works great as a chump block then removal in place of Ultimate Price and the Sin Collector is a "when enters the battlefield" ability which has good synergy bringing him back with athreos. i also have Underworld Connections instead of Pain Seer . i find that the consistency of card draw is better (not needing to attack/survive/untap), the life loss is calculated and it also contributes 2 to devotion for athreos while being harder to remove.

i like your use of the orzhov charm! and i'd agree throwing some Thoughtseize into the sideboard is a good idea. maybe throw the Sin Collector s in there too if you don't encounter control decks as often. might not hurt to throw in Master of the Feast as he is just an insane aggro smash to the face!

+1!

sin collectors will probably go in the sideboard. The threat I'm most worried about is Anger of the Gods since it exiles them and sets me back a good deal while my opponent gets bigger creatures online.

wolfsokol says... #13

You must remember that Anger of the Gods if you have Athreos out they still have to pay the life yo send it to exile otherwise back to the hand. Or I may have read it wrong not sure.

Also I recently made a similar deck let me know what you think. Athreos and Friends

Nope, checked it today. If it would have read "would go to the graveyard go to exile instead" that would be different. They go immediately to exile. Similar thing with Rest in Peace . Immortal Servitude might be a nice addition to the deck though.

I can see Rest in Peace being a hard counter to Athreos, God of Passage

My best bet against AoG would be having a Cartel Aristocrat online and sacing all of my creature in response.

wolfsokol says... #17

That is ingenious. I don't think I would have ever thought of that

Yeah, it's a great out if that's what they decide to spend their mana on. Mono blue match ups might be a pain with frostburn wierds but I have 8 ways of dealing with creatures main board and many more sideboard. Drown in Sorrow may go in the sideboard against aggro because it triggers both Athreos and Xathrid, and Xathrid 's zombies don't die to it either. it might be a great aggro match up card.

just spoiled a card that will be rough for all god decks. I think Deicide is going to find its way into lots of main board and most sideboards in standard. going to be harder to protect athreos now.

April 17, 2014 1:10 p.m.

Decide is why you splash blue in here for counters.

April 17, 2014 2:04 p.m.

GuyMontagz says... #21

I think splashing blue would be a bad idea just for counter spells. I can always bounce him back with Orzhov Charm and if he is a creature I can protect him with Gods Willing . Even if they get rid of Athreos completely I'm still left with a very competitive Orzhov human build that still functions very well.

Hey, this is a nice deck, I have made one thats really similar, but I was looking for some help on mine, although I cant really ask for help without giving some, so just as a suggestion, how about High Priest of Penance for an even better deathtouch? and possibly Heliod, God of the Sun for those pesky matchups, yeah you are using the same deck, but hey, my creatures have vigilance :) If you dont mind having a look at mine and maybe making a suggestion that would help me out tons Let them die, but so will you also I am wondering why the one random gate is in there?

April 19, 2014 5:54 p.m.

GuyMontagz says... #23

Mana fixing purposes. Most likely will be a mana confluence later on.

April 19, 2014 7:21 p.m.

wolfsokol says... #24

@ gingergimli If you are running Heliod then I would throw in Brimaz and Elspeth with Dictate of Erebos then bile blight all your tokens and make them sac all their creatures and swing game

April 19, 2014 11:49 p.m.

You can't bounce him with Orzhov Charm unless he's creature as well
