I would recommend losing the Fog Bank , Doubling Cube , Protean Hulk , Giant Oyster , Dungeon Geists , Dream Twist , Negate , Reins of Power , Simic Charm , Unsummon , Exhume , Memory Sluice , Mind Grind , Mind Funeral .

Also swap your Dimir Charm for Go for the Throat , Soul Manipulation for Psychic Strike , and lose some lands so your down to 25 or so.

Alright i thinned it out but I kinda want to keep the Oyster and the Geists because of the lockdown and in the Oysters case the eventual removal. Is there any other cards that could do that better or should i just scrap them anyway?

Ok, I scrapped them anyway. Now What do you think of my mana situation? should I cut the simic and dimir cards and replace them with something else like a chromatic lantern and more regular mana?

I'd put in 4-6 more lands and keep your deck size at 60 if possible. Consistency is key and for that you need about 22-24 lands total. 18 is simply not going to cut it.

Alright, what should I focus on cloning? Evil twin is nice as well as sower of temptation. I know I want those two also bio visionary for the lols. Isn't there a card that destroys the original it clones automatically?

have you thought about Lazav, Dimir Mastermind

I looked at him but my first question is if he is then legendary would that destroy both him and the mimicked card? I might put him in. I just like Ashiok because of how he can mess with the opponents deck. I guess I could keep him and cut mind grind I guess. Also, this price is getting crazy. I might cut more critters or something and add more sorcery or something...... All I know is that I now am just trying to lower the price. I'd say I got this pretty much figured out.

Alright, I gutted the deck in order to try and make it standard legal. Now what should I ad? Any good theros cards that like to be cloned or something? Also, I need more instants or sorcery for protection. And speaking of there's, devotion is how much of a color is on the field, right?

Rujer12 says... #14

Alright. I'm thinking about cloning the gray merchant of asphodel. The devotion would go up every turn and more life would be lost.

Little high on your land count, Generally I don't like a mainboarded Swan Song , Annul , or Dispel . I'd recommend Negate . Possible some more fogs also. I would also try to find a way to get Progenitor Mimic out sooner then turn 6 if at all possible. Not sure how but something for you to look at.

yeah, that is something I am looking at but its a bit tricky.

I would say that you need to focus on what you are actually trying to accomplish with the deck. While trying to ramp up to a demon with Shadowborn Apostle is an interesting idea, it just doesn't work well here because it is too fragile. You can't afford to put enough Apostles in the deck so that you draw enough of them on a regular basis, so they are useless if you only have a few of them. You definitely want to cut all 20.

What you are looking for in this deck is mana ramp. The current standard environment doesn't have too much good mana ramp, but there is some. Elvish Mystic is an excellent play on turn one, so I would highly recommend adding a few. Crypt Ghast can be a pretty good card if you decided to go the full mono black devotion route, but in a three coloured deck he isn't very effective. I see you have one Chromatic Lantern. While I'm not a big fan of the card in this deck, it is pretty handy for evening out your mana.

The rest of what you want to do in this deck really depends on what direction you want to go. With the cards in Standard, I would say that a deck focusing on cloning demons isn't necessarily the way to go, although you should definitely keep some of the elements. Just thinking, if you get a demon out you are probably going to win anyway, so I would advise either focusing on finding a really good five drop you could use to abuse the Mimic (I saw this because playing a card on turn five and then cloning with Mimic on turn six is much more effective than playing a Demon on turn 8 and then playing the Mimic on turn 9), or just play mono black devotion and just not worry about cloning the Demons. Also, you could just go Clone crazy and focus on cloning your opponent's best creatures.

If you really like the interaction between Gray Merchant and the Mimic, you might just try to do a mix of those ideas similar to this original deck, but without the high costing demons bloating it up.

Here are some cards that I would advise taking out, though:

Immortal Servitude : The interaction between this card and Shadowborn Apostle is pretty cool, but as I said before, playing Apostles are not at all reliable if you aren't completely devoted to it, and even then it is shaky against any deck with removal.

Swan Song : A one mana counter is nice, but 2/2 flying birds are actually fairly powerful, and you don't want to be giving your opponent more ways to kill you quickly.

Viper's Kiss : Mediocre removal. There are much better options you can choose from, like Hero's Downfall or Ultimate Price .

Annul : Many decks don't run any artifacts or enchantments, so a lot of times this could be a dead card. Put it in sideboard instead.

Elixir of Immortality : There aren't enough mill decks out there to make this mainboard material, and the five life isn't good enough to run it on its own. Keep it in the sideboard.

Pyxis of Pandemonium : By the time you have enough mana to activate its ability you have enough mana to play pretty much anything in your deck, plus there is no guarantee that you get anything worth playing.

Alright, what two colors are better? For clones I'm thinking b/u or a b/w. Also, for the shadowborn, I have a few because I was thinking that if a game went on to long I could immortal servitude and drop a gray merchant or something. I'm not sure how well that would work though. It seems like a good idea to me. I'll be looking at other decks with shadowborn's to see how they get them out.

Also, what would you recommend in the way of being able to search my library for a card? Also, is there no way to play my mimics for cheap?

For me, the best way to utilize Shadowborn Apostle is if you devote the whole deck to him, like I did here:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/shadowborn-apostle-standard-deck-1/

If you can't make pretty much every card you draw an Apostle, they will be completely useless one mana 1/1s. In the case of this deck, you don't want to have any. While immortal servituding into a grey merchant would be nice, you want to every card in your deck to be good. If such a large chunk of it is often a dead card, you don't want to go there.

As for which colours you want to go, that is up to you. It just depends on what direction you want to take the deck.

As I said, if you go the mana dork route you could use cards like Elvish Mystic , Sylvan Caryatid , or Voyaging Satyr .

Being able to search the library for a card? Honestly, in current Standard that isn't a very strong strategy. It's better to just focus on making every card in your deck good and useful, rather than wasting tempo and mana searching for another card.

Alright, good advice. I am now going full shadowborn. I think I found a way to keep the spirit of this deck and still troll at the same time. Just got to look over some cards first.

OK, mono black. I think I got cards that are now following the stratagem. what should be side boarded? Also, what's the rules on a sideboard? I think i got a few options for mana ramping, opinions?

October 9, 2013 12:10 p.m.

Lord007 says... #23

Your sideboard must consist of up to and not greater then 15 cards. Other then that the only thing is that the cards must be standard legal if your deck is.

So if its not a demon or a shadowborn its in the sideboard then is the idea then. Also, door of destiny with then shadowborn..... Nice. I just keep replaying them and pumping them up if the demons need help. Its nice I think.

You probably don't need so many swamps if you are just going to use the apostles to get demons out. I would recommend 2-4xDoom Blade and take out 2-4 swamps.
