Sideboard

Where Triton is king and the mermaids all sing.

My first Magic the Gathering deck. One of my friends helped me build it. I enjoyed playing it so much that I ended up getting into the game.

Curve

It's a fast deck capable of beating most casual decks, and you should be able to purchase the main deck for under $200.

Strategy

Use Spreading Seas to make one of your opponents lands an island. Then the islandwalk effects of your Lord of Atlantis and Master of the Pearl Trident will let your merfolk be unblockable. Use the card draw provided by Silvergill Adept and Spreading Seas to keep going.

If I find myself against a deck that is aggressively playing two drops I usually sideboard out the 4 mana leaks for the 3 Spell Snares and one other appropriate card like Torpor Orb, Dismember or Mutagenic Growth.

Upgrades

If you want to upgrade the deck even further you could put in 4 copies of Aether Vial, but at $40 apiece that would double the cost of the deck. Aether Vial is a very strong 1 drop that you can use to start playing your Merfolk for free.
