Atraxa, Praetor's Hug

Commander / EDH

Dr.-Potato

Background, feel free to skip to next paragraph:

After jokingly calling my Yahenni, Undying Partisan deck a grouphug deck because Genesis Chamber gave everyone tokens tokens in an attempt to not get targeted, it got me thinking about doing legitimate grouphug deck. I could have easily just gone with Pheldagriff like everyone else, but I felt like doing something interesting. My first thought had been to do monoblack with Seizan, Perverter of Truth and although it was fun to use cards with a loose definition of "helpful" it just didn't feel right without classic hug cards like Rites of Flourishing . I ended up abandoning the monoblack idea, but I still wanted something different. In the end, I finally decided on Atraxa, Praetors' Voice for Classic Bant hug cards and black for some extra mischief, as well as the humor of running a commander that's usually public enemy #1 as group hug.

This deck aims to be a pure hug deck that doesn't just use grouphug cards to disguise a combo its setting up. The only cards that can be considered an actual in condition would be spamming the Myojin effects every turn after proliferating. Much of the deck is cards you would normally expect to find in grouphug, but I'll list some of the more fun/interesting ones below.

  • Atraxa, Praetors' Voice: The commander herself can be used for the benefit of the entire table by proliferating their walkers and other counter shenanigans.
  • Endless Whispers: Give everyone the gift of giving with constant reanimation.
  • Cruel Entertainment : The "get along shirt" of the deck. If two players are bickering, let them do whatever they want to the other and resolve their differences (because that's definitely what'll happen).
  • Abyssal Persecutor: Your opponents can't lose. Is explanation needed?
  • Head Games : Help out an opponent with dead cards, or help them search for removal to a threat.
  • Hivemind: Because it's not fair if only one person casts something.
  • Forgotten Ancient / Sheltering Ancient : Make your opponents things veeeeery big.
  • Deadly Designs: Now your opponents can work together to get rid of a threat.

This deck is meant to be very casual and somewhat budget and this is a very early first draft, so any feedback and fun suggestions would be appreciated.
