I recommend you have either Lightning Helix , or Warleader's Helix , and also Norn's Annex just in case if your opponents don't have white in there deck

I greatly enjoy Grand Abolisher , but not sure what to replace it with. and the same goes for Norn's Annex even though it's a bit pricy for what it does.

mbentley6 I would recommend removing Insurrection and Boros Keyrune .

Also, I'd switch Ancient Amphitheater and one other land for Dormant Volcano and Karoo .

Insurrection wins me games. And Boros Keyrune is ramp that can become a creature that can hold a weapon if I suffer a boardwipe.

the fact that both Dormant Volcano and Karoo come into play tapped is a turn off for them. And if I don't have an untapped plains or mountain they are sacrificed is also a turn off.

mbentley6 but you only have two giants to make Ancient Amphitheater come in untapped.

Ancient Amphitheater still allows me to play spells with my available mana. the other lands don't. I would have to forgo casting a spell in favor of playing a land that comes into play tapped no matter what. At least Ancient Amphitheater has a chance of coming into play untapped.

I like it! I have a Gisela, Blade of Goldnight edh deck that has Aureilia in it. May i suggest Furnace of Rath , Malignus , and Heartless Hidetsugu as addition options, although I am not sure what you would cut for them. Solid build +1!

Love the deck, my friend! As a Boros guy, I approve of this deck so hard. Just, powerful, and badass to the core. Very flavourful in your deck description too! Look into a Warstorm Surge and a War Cadence. Those are some seriously bonkers cards.

Oops! You already have a Warstorm, my bad!

Thank you my friend! I really enjoy this deck, it's my first EDH and so far my best.

I like it, but why no Odric, Master Tactician He could make both attacks unblockable.

Mostly because he didn't make the cut on what creatures to keep and what to take out. Battalion is good, but when playing this deck, I usually don't have all that many creatures out. So having a creature that has an ability that relies on having five total creatures isn't good in this type of deck.

If I were to make a swarm edh, then it would be very viable

Legion's Initiative and Dolmen Gate are super helpful for the multiple combat phases and keeping your creatures alive

Artemis_Swift says... #15

Legion's Initiative is a one of those cards where I refuse to use. It's inferior as an anthem effect compared to Spear of Heliod and inferior as a combat trick compared to Seize the Day .

Boros Battleshaper is a pretty awesome card in EDH. His triggered ability activates EVERY combat, not just ones involving you. And think about how much of a game changer it would be if you had Strionic Resonator .

maybe add Basandra, Battle Seraph just to have another creature to keep them from using instants during combat.

i feel like you need more mana power...

add a few more for consistency:

  1. Ancient Tomb - so relevant. it's a mana crypt in the form of a land

  2. Mana Crypt if you can afford it.

  3. Boros Signet - mana fix / ramp, works well with the other rocks in here.

  4. Darksteel Ingot - very strong in any edh deck b/c many run artifact hate

  5. Mana Vault is a fav of mine

a GREAT card to play which can really hinder many players' styles and almost always ruin future plays is Defense Grid

lastly, Blind Obedience is, imo, a MUST. it SCREWS fetches and basically grants you an unblockable enchantment with your hasty creatures.

Mana Crypt is a card I will not have in a deck. Expensive to buy for what it does. And also deal damage if I fail a coin flip. Sol Ring does the same thing, for 1 mana, and doesn't hurt me.

Mana Vault is only good for one turn, and then it becomes a liability. Having to pay 4 to untap or you take damage, I have better uses for my mana.

Basandra, Battle Seraph hurts me as well. Not going to be in the deck because she prohibits the casting of spells during the entire combat phase, one of my win conditions requires just that. Savage Beating is the card I am referring to.

Darksteel Ingot and Boros Signet were both in previous versions of this deck, both of which have been removed for various reasons.

Ancient Tomb is a card indeed. I would like to have it in the deck.

Blind Obedience and Defense Grid are both decent cards, they don't fit the feel of this deck though.

Boros reckoner and angelic skirmisher seem out of place, although they work well together. I enjoyed playtesting vs this deck. It won 1 out of 3 in one on one and helped me assess some potential changes in my deck list.

mbentley6 - you have ignorance in your reasoning referring to Mana Crypt and Mana Vault . they are expensive because they are REALLY good. you are failing to see why.

btw, find more ways to add card draw. you have none.

December 17, 2013 12:22 p.m.

Artemis_Swift says... #23

@Dreno33 Not ignorance, economics. I fail to see why I should include a card with a drawback like Mana Vault 's. Granted, Worn Powerstone is worse by comparison, but it untaps every upkeep. Mana Crypt hurts me if a coin comes up what the opponent said. I don't like that.

I don't fail to see why they are expensive, I know why they are, I just don't like them.

I had to sacrifice card draw to build the deck how I wanted to with the amount of extra combat phase spells. It was an unavoidable problem with no real good solution unless I removed my ramp cards.

@abstractfive - How do you playtest? I only know about the playtest button, but it only lets me test the deck alone and not against anything. As for the two creatures, the Skirmisher can and will win games with the combat phases, I can gain a lot of life with that card, and the Reckoner, well, he was given to me by a friend of mine so I use him

December 17, 2013 6:46 p.m.

abstractfive says... #24

I open it up in a different window or tab and then playtest both decks.

December 17, 2013 8:15 p.m.

The combinations I find with this deck amazes me. If this deck is played right it can be nasty. Having a high cost commander is very bold.
